According to ESRI support it is not possible to publish Feature Services from ArcGIS Desktop to a Public Account. It is possible to upload shape files that are available as layers (so long as not greater than 1000 features..nb total storage limit of 2GB). Also, features imported to a Public Account are only available to a single web map. See: Features vs. feature services in ArcGIS Online | ArcGIS Blog Useful design pointers: Who can make this  ESRI'S reply simple and easy to understand ?

Nothing specific about services. I assume that the Public Account cannot host feature services as there is not associated with credits (unlike the Organizational account).

I am interested to know the differences in functionality between a public and organizational AGOL account. Is it necessary to have an Organizational account in order to host Feature services published from ArcGIS Desktop?

Whats' the rationale for using maximum-scale=1, user-scalable=no in viewport configuration? This configuration is used in the ESRI samples.

The answer seems to be 'yes'. The package.json should refer to the 'extraCustomModules' folder (as in my example). This makes sense as packages are usually collections of modules (but I am thinking Python here). Anyway, the build ran ok with multiple custom modules (yet to test it on the web server). If anyone knows differently, would be interested to hear.

Is it possible to have some clarification on using the Web Optimizer tool with an application that has multiple custom AMD modules? Presumably only one package.json is required? The Help example uses the following directory structure: application_folder |- index.html |-- css |-- extraCustomModule |---- package.json |---- MyCustomModule.js With multiple custom modules is the structure still valid (with a bit of renaming)? Eg: application_folder |- index.html |-- css |-- extraCustomModules |---- package.json |---- CustomModuleA.js |---- CustomModuleB.js |---- CustomModuleC.js Thanks.

You're right, those do work. But what has me confused is that the doco says that the constant should be "ZOOM_IN" https://developers.arcgis.com/en/javascript/jsapi/navigation-amd.html#activate activate(navType) Activates the toolbar for map navigation. Activating the toolbar overrides default map navigation. Parameters: <String> navType Required The navigation type. The Constants table lists valid navigation values. Constants Name Description PAN Map is panned. ZOOM_IN Map zooms in. ZOOM_OUT Map zooms out.

Converting a simplified version of the navToolbar sample has caused me some confusion in terms of the AMD navigation module. In the script below the zoomfullextent, zoomnext and zoomprev buttons all work as expected. However, the zoomin and zoomout buttons do not work. I see in other people's examples that they use: navToolbar.activate(esri.toolbars.Navigation.ZOOM_IN) This does indeed work (if I substitute it into the code below). But why does navToolbar.activate(ZOOM_IN) not work? Looking at the documentation it seems like it should work as activate() and zoomToFullExtent() are both methods of the Navigation object. <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/> <!--The viewport meta tag is used to improve the presentation and behavior of the samples on iOS devices--> <meta name="viewport" content="initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1,user-scalable=no"/> <title>Navigation toolbar</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://js.arcgis.com/3.8/js/esri/css/esri.css"/> <style type="text/css"> @import "http://js.arcgis.com/3.8/js/dojo/dijit/themes/claro/claro.css"; .zoominIcon { background-image:url(images/zoomin16_tiny.png); width:16px; height:16px; } .zoomoutIcon { background-image:url(images/zoomout16.png); width:16px; height:16px; } .zoomfullextIcon { background-image:url(images/fullextent32_tiny.png); width:16px; height:16px; } .zoomprevIcon { background-image:url(images/previous16.png); width:16px; height:16px; } .zoomnextIcon { background-image:url(images/next16.png); width:16px; height:16px; } .panIcon { background-image:url(pan16_tiny.png); width:16px; height:16px; } </style> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://js.arcgis.com/3.8/" data-dojo-config="async: true"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var navToolbar; require([ "dojo/parser", "esri/map", "esri/toolbars/navigation", "dijit/form/Button", "dijit/Toolbar", "dojo/domReady!" ], function (parser, Map, Navigation) { parser.parse(); map = new Map("map", { basemap: "satellite", center: [-56.953, 57.472], zoom: 3 }); navToolbar = new Navigation(map); } ); </script> </head> <body class="claro"> <div id="navToolbar" data-dojo-type="dijit/Toolbar"> <button type="button" data-dojo-type="dijit/form/Button" id="zoomin" data-dojo-props="iconClass:'zoominIcon'"> <script type="dojo/on" data-dojo-event="click"> navToolbar.activate(ZOOM_IN); </script> Zoom In </button> <button type="button" data-dojo-type="dijit/form/Button" id="zoomout" data-dojo-props="iconClass:'zoomoutIcon'"> <script type="dojo/on" data-dojo-event="click"> navToolbar.activate(ZOOM_OUT); </script> Zoom Out </button> <button type="button" data-dojo-type="dijit/form/Button" id="zoomfullext" data-dojo-props="iconClass:'zoomfullextIcon'"> <script type="dojo/on" data-dojo-event="click"> navToolbar.zoomToFullExtent(); </script> Full Extent </button> <button type="button" data-dojo-type="dijit/form/Button" id="zoomprev" data-dojo-props="iconClass:'zoomprevIcon'"> <script type="dojo/on" data-dojo-event="click"> navToolbar.zoomToPrevExtent(); </script> Prev Extent </button> <button type="button" data-dojo-type="dijit/form/Button" id="zoomnext" data-dojo-props="iconClass:'zoomnextIcon'"> <script type="dojo/on" data-dojo-event="click"> navToolbar.zoomToNextExtent(); </script> Next Extent </button> <button type="button" data-dojo-type="dijit/form/Button" id="pan" data-dojo-props="iconClass:'panIcon'"> <script type="dojo/on" data-dojo-event="click"> navToolbar.activate(PAN); </script> Pan </button> </div> <div id="map" style="width:100%; height:512px;"></div> </body> </html>

Thanks for your swift reply. I had already tried those CSS properties and, while they are useful, I found the solution to be the min-width property, as in: .esriBookmarkLabel{ min-width: 300px; } in conjunction with: .esriBookmarks{ width: 300px; } Many thanks, Mark

Is there a CSS property that can be applied to the ESRI bookmarks dijit to increase the amount of bookmark text that can be displayed? At present, the bookmark text looks like it is being truncated at a certain number of pixels (as the last character is incomplete). I have tried width and max-width with .esriBookmarkItem and .esriBookmarks but this just results in a wider dijit with the text still truncated. Thanks, Mark

I published a mxd to ArcGIS.com as a feature service. The mxd dataframe was in epsg:3111. ArcGIS.com converted the spatial reference to ESRI's wkid 102171 (not sure why). Now, the Javascript app uses a base layer (WMS) that must be requested as epsg: 3111. I can set a Javascript map object to have a spatial reference of 3111 via its initial extent. All well and good, the base layer loads fine. However, because ArcGIS.com converted the spatial reference of the mxd to 102171 during publishing I am unable to add the feature service over the base layer (even though 3111 and 102171 refer to the same coordinate system). If I make the map object's spatial reference 102171 the feature service loads fine, but the base layer doesn't. I will cross-post this on the Javascript API forum, but just wondered if anyone had encountered this here.
