Did you guys figure this out? I am trying to refresh my composite geocoding service published on Server 10.1. I can't find any good document on how it is done. Thanks!

I have an interesting observation and wanted to share with you guys and see if you experience the same thing. I am on ArcSDE 10.2, with Oracle 11.2.0.2.0, OS is RHEL6.1. I was excited that using ArcGIS for Desktop there is an option to create a database view. So I followed the steps listed here http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/index.html#/Create_a_database_view_in_ArcGIS_for_Desktop/019v0000000n000000/ and created a simple database view of one of my SDE feature layers. I also created a similar view using SDE command line tool like I used to do in 10.0 and before. Both methods created the views. However, I discovered that in the view created using the desktop tool, the objectID field data type is Long Integer, whereas the view created by the "traditional" SDE command line tool is ObjectID data type. There are some advantages of having it as the "object ID" data type, especially using the view in ArcGIS services, etc. I wonder if anybody else notice this? Is this "long integer" thing a bug? or is it by design choice? I hope to see some documentation about this, but haven't find any. I am very interested hearing how you guys think about this.... Thanks Rong

I am in ArcSDE 10.2, and have an attribute domain subtype change in parent geodatabase, and wanted to pass that change to the child geodatabase. I first used the compare schema change tool created a xml file, and then tried to import that file to the child gdb, but got the similar message "No schema changes found for this replica pair." I found the bug report NIM070970 and this post here. I just reported this to the ESRI support. However I need a solution now, and wondering if anybody have figured out a work around for this? I am using Oracle 11.2.0.2.0, OS is RHEL6.1, SDE is 10.2. It is a one-way replication with simple features only. Thanks a lot. Rong

A few details about what I did in testing: 1. I am able to create Full model one way replications on my datasets without problem. All feature layers and annotations get replicated into the child gdb; they are also versioned in the child as expected. 2. Then I setup sde views on these versioned child. However when I edit the parent data & synch the changes to child, the views don't get updated. That's why I think the sde spatial/table views don't work with versioned dataset. 3. when I tried simple model for the one way replication, some layers got replicated, but those with related annotations didn't. 4. I deleted all the annotation relationships, and re-did simple model replication, these layers still didn't get replicated. I tried with both ArcToolbox and ArcMap's "create Replica" wizard/tool. Thanks a lot.

Ok, I got all my keywords listed in the title. I have two feature datasets in what I call transaction SDE, they are versioned, with attribute domains and subtypes, and some have annotation related. This is my editing environment. I want to replicate these datasets to a publication SDE environment, which are not open for any editing, but there will be spatial and table views built using these datasets, and the views will be consumed by other apps. If I understand correctly, sde views can not be built on versioned data. So, it seems that my Pub environment (aka child gdb) has to be non-versioned data. Then my only option seems to be making my one way replication "simple" model. I've been trying to setup this simple model replication all different ways but it doesn't get all my transaction(parent) data layers replicated. It seems those with related annotation don't get replicated. Attribute domains also seems to give it trouble. Does anybody have good ideas? Can Simple model work with related annotations? If I can only use Full model replication, what could I do with sde views on my versioned child datasets? all my SDEs are on Linux, oracle 11gR2, ArcSDE 10 sp5, and I am using direct connect. There is no geometric network, no topology in the parent datasets, but have related annotations, attribute domains and subtypes. The parent SDE are versioned and allow editing. The goal is to have the child(publication) synched with changes, and spatial/table views working. Is this too complicated? or am I missing something. Thank you very much!

Thankfully we have a great DBA, problem solved. He said he ran the ArcSDE for Linux and run sedsetup command, and created SDE user and repository, etc. the installation guide was pretty helpful http://help.arcgis.com/en/geodatabase/10.0/install_guides/arcsde_for_oracle_installation_and_upgrade_guide/index.html#/System_requirements_to_install_ArcSDE_for_Oracle/009400000003000000/ thanks everybody.

Great sticky up there with ArcSDE 10.1. my situation is I have an Oracle 11g on Linux as database server I would prefer Not have to setup a SDE 10 application server, because all my connections will be direct connect. Client side: ArcGIS desktop 10.0 sp5, Oracle Client 11g 32bit. TNS name is set properly because using sqlplus I can make the connection to my Oracle db box However when I tried to setup direct connect in ArcCatalog, I got this error:"Failed to connect to the specified server. This SDE server does not support this client or operation" so my question is what do I need to do to enable direct connect without installing full ArcSDE in 10.0 environment? Thanks a lot! Max

http://support.esri.com/en/bugs/nimbus/TklNMDc2MTg2 using JoinField tool from the toolbox or model builder, it is still returning NULL values for some part of the data unexpectedly. I am running ArcGIS 10.0 sp5. It is very disappointing that it is Not fixed in sp5!
