In case it might help someone: I got an error when attempting this step of the offline install with the latest Anaconda and Python API releases: Create a new environment, including python and six packages: conda create -n <my_env_name> python six The error I got was as follows: Executing transaction: | b'\'"C:\\ProgramData\\Anaconda3\\envs\\testenv\\Scripts\\jupyter-nbextension.exe"\' is not recognized as an internal or external command,\noperable program or batch file.\n\'"C:\\ProgramData\\Anaconda3\\envs\\testenv\\Scripts\\jupyter-nbextension.exe"\' is not recognized as an internal or external command,\noperable program or batch file.\n' / b'Manually uninstall any prior version of arcgis widget using:\n\t"jupyter nbextension uninstall arcgis --user" and \n\t"jupyter nbextension uninstall arcgis"\n\'"C:\\ProgramData\\Anaconda3\\envs\\testenv\\Scripts\\jupyter-nbextension.exe"\' is not recognized as an internal or external command,\noperable program or batch file.\n\'"C:\\ProgramData\\Anaconda3\\envs\\testenv\\Scripts\\jupyter-nbextension.exe"\' is not recognized as an internal or external command,\noperable program or batch file.\n' done I resolved this issue by including jupyter when creating the environment, i.e. I executed the following: conda create -n <my_env_name> python six jupyter

Are these instructions supposed to work with Enterprise as well as AGOL at the present beta release? I've tried with Enterprise but get stuck in a 'sign-in to Portal' loop no matter what combinations of URLs I've tried in the app URL and the redirect URL settings for the app. Please could you confirm?

I've raised this as a support case. In case it might help someone else, I have managed to hack around this problem by publishing effectively a skeleton service containing a vtpk based on a map containing only a single layer, and then swapping in the folders from the full size vtpk into the published service's folder, which will be located somewhere like: D:\arcgis\arcgisserver\directories\arcgiscache\VectorCache\Hosted\sizetest\VectorTileServer So for clarity the steps are: 1. Generate a tiny vtpk e.g. remove everything but simplest layer from your map document 2. Run Share Package to upload to Portal 3. Go to Content and click on item created in step 2. to access item's page 4. Click Publish and wait for service to publish 5. Go to published service's folder e.g. D:\arcgis\arcgisserver\directories\arcgiscache\VectorCache\Hosted\sizetest\VectorTileServer 6. Delete everything in that folder 7. Unzip your full size vtpk and copy the following into folder above: folders: resources tile tilemap file: root.json 8. Go back to the item in Portal and view in Map Viewer - it should be working with the new data

Same result with a 29Gb vtpk. Got the following in the log: SEVERE The containing process for 'System/PublishingTools' job 'j02b371c415b64171bd5fdf6b19fff79b' has crashed.

I have generated a Vector Tile Package (.vtpk) which is slightly over 36Gb. I used the Share Package GP tool in Pro to upload it to Enterprise, and it uploaded successfully, which I verified by downloading the vtpk, and viewing it in Pro. I then attempted to publish the VTP as a hosted Tile Layer by accessing its page in Enterprise, and clicking Publish. After an hour or two the process failed, reporting an error in the browser and the following in the logs, which seems to be related: SEVERE The containing process for 'System/PublishingTools' job 'j3297956af3dd42ce9b0113fd010168ff' has crashed. 2018-06-13T11:25:04 Server DESKTOP-xxxxxxx 7553 17032 46 SEVERE Processing request took longer than the usage timeout for service 'System/PublishingTools.GPServer'. Server request timed out. Check that the usage timeout is appropriately configured for such requests. 2018-06-13T11:24:54 Server DESKTOP-xxxxxxx 7549 17032 46 And so to my questions: firstly, is there a known limit on the maximum size of VTP that can be published as a hosted Tile Layer, or is this limit currently unknown? Secondly, if my 36Gb vtpk is within the limit i.e. it should be possible to publish it, are there any settings I might be able to tweak to overcome the error? I have tried upping some values in the PublishingTools GP service, but any outside insight would be most appreciated.

I'm slightly confused as the current Runtime documentation suggests creating map areas (as part of a preplanned workflow) is already implemented, but judging by your comment above it may not be available in the current release. Looking at this URL: Create an offline map—ArcGIS Runtime SDK for .NET (WPF) | ArcGIS for Developers I'm puzzled by this part: 'Create a map area To create a map area, run a python command and provide a geographical extent to define the area of interest. This extent can be provided using one of the web map's Bookmarks or an Envelope.' There is no mention of the specific command that needs to be run to create the map area, nor can I find a function in the Python API that looks like a function to create a map area (perhaps it's obvious and I'm missing it). Are you able to shed any light on this? Edit: I've found the REST API call: ArcGIS REST API

I made some progress. I added some scale-based symbol classes to a layer and saved the layer to disk as .lyrx format. The .lyrx file contains JSON text. Examining the JSON it appears that the scale-based symbol classes are written to an object with the name 'alternateSymbols'. This gives me a route to hacking the JSON via Python etc. Hopefully in time the functionality will be available via a proper Esri tool.

New in Pro are scale-based symbol classes as described here under the heading 'Show different symbols at different scales': pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/help/mapping/symbols-and-styles/scale-based-symbol-classes.htm I have a complex mxd that I wish to convert to use scale-based symbol classes, and believe it will be far quicker to script this rather than attempt it manually. Is the functionality behind the Scale Range View in the Symbology pane exposed in ArcPy or API? I searched the online documentation for both but could not find references to changing symbol class scale range. This seems to me like a significant omission, especially given that using the Scale Range View can involve lots of finicky mouse clicking and spinny icon waits after each change.

If you attempt to use the Create Vector Tile Package in ArcGIS Pro but the Description field of the map's metadata is empty, the tool fails and informs that this field needs to be populated. It's then necessary to go off and hunt for this field before filling it in. I think it would be great to add a button 'resolve problem' or similar that would open the metadata dialog box and set focus in the Description field, all ready for typing in some text.
