I want to add a new Feature Layer to an existing Feature Layer Collection (FLC) that I am already successfully overwriting daily using code like: feature_layer_collection = FeatureLayerCollection.fromitem(dataitem)
feature_layer_collection.manager.overwrite(zipped_gdb) However, this requires that the new zipped gdb contain the exact structure of Feature Layers as the existing FLC being overwritten. How do I add a new layer into the FLC so that upon the next overwrite which includes the additional Feature Layer, it won't result in an error? This FLC contains 6 Feature Layers that are being used in published maps, so I do not want to simply create a new FLC with the additional layer since I would then have to reconfigure all the published maps.

I have two input feature layers: 1. Points, 2. Polylines. I would like to generate a new feature layer of polylines, one for each point, that starts at each point and ends at the closest vertex in the closest polyline. Sounds a lot like the Generate Near Table, right? But that tool draws lines to the edges of the nearest features. I specifically need the lines to coincide with a vertex of the near feature so that I can use them to build a network dataset in Network Analyst. Thanks networkanalyst near# generate near #verticies

Thanks for the reply Dan. The actual final need is to create the input for building a network dataset for later use with Network Analyst routing, and it requires the input features to intersect at vertices. When I use Generate Near Table, I get a resulting feature layer of polylines that intersect the near features along their edges, so then I need to add vertices in the near features where the features from the near table intersect them. The only thing I could previously do is use one of the Split tools to break the near features at the intersections, but that takes a lot of processing time, and results in more features in an already large feature layer. I was hoping adding vertices would be quicker and easier.

Is there a tool that can add vertices to polylines, given an input of points, or polylines that intersect? I have a feature layer ("A") of thousands of polylines, and I previously ran the Generate Near Table Analysis tool from a different feature layer ("B") to these polylines ("A"). I need to add vertices in these polylines ("A") where the near analysis determined to be the closest points on "A". So I have either a points feature layer or lines feature layer to use as input, which are features created from the X,Y results of the near analysis. How can I add vertices in the polylines from "A"?

Thanks again Hunter. Yes the Hierarchy is good for fiber optic cable routes. I am using ESRI's StreetMap Premium for ArcGIS Desktop which comes with a pre-built Network Dataset. As far as I've found, it cannot be edited or copied because it is licensed, so I don't think I can build a new Network Dataset without Travel Modes. However, I had a revelation that solved my problem with one-way streets. In the Closest Facility Analysis Settings Restriction there are choices for Driving an Automobile, Driving a Truck, Walking, etc. I thought you had to choose one of those modes, but my revelation was that you don't have to pick any of them, and it was those choices that were causing the restriction on one-way travel. With none of those selected it is not restricted to one-way travel and successfully routes in any direction. However I do now have to watch out for it routing on walking paths, because it is no longer restricted to where an automobile drives, and walking paths are generally not where you could place fiber cable.

Thanks Allyson, but that is the opposite of what I need to do. I have good X/Y coordinates in the attribute, which have been updated by some workflow, or just manually edited. But the existing points are still located at the original X/Y coordinates. I want to make the existing points move to the updated X/Y coordinates in the attribute table. Thanks

Thank you for your ideas Hunter. Unfortunately, I tried them both and neither achieves what I was looking for. 1) The "Use Hierarchy" option merely turns on/off the preference to use bigger roads rather than smaller ones. 2) I have not seen any difference in the routes generated with or without U-Turns allowed, but anyway U-turns are a result of following the direction of one-way streets, which is what I want to ignore. I appreciate your trying to help anyway. Rich

Thank you Jonathan I left out some details for simplicity in my example, but the reason I didn't Display XY data to create points from the new CSV, and then append to the original data is because the new CSV did not contain all the fields as in the original table, and there has been a lot of manual updating to the attributes of the original table that I don't wan to loose - even some Latitudes/Longitudes have been manually updated. Essentially I was looking for fewer steps to move the existing points in the existing layer to the current XY coordinates than what it takes to export the attribute table to Excel, convert to CSV, add the CSV to the workspace, Display XY data to create an event, and then export data to create another feature layer. Sounds like that's the best way to do it though, without getting into Python. Thanks again.

Similar to this scenario, is there an easy way (in as few steps as possible) to move all points in a feature class to new Latitudes/Longitudes which have been updated in the table attributes. For example, I originally imported a CSV with Latitudes/Longitudes and used Display XY Data... to create the feature points. Later, I got new Latitudes/Longitudes for most of them and so I joined the new table to the original table and used Field Calculator to update the Latitudes/Longitudes attributes in the original table. Now it would be nice if I could just Display XY Data... again, but that is not an option in a feature class. Is there a tool to recreate the points in a feature class using the current Latitudes/Longitudes in the table? Thanks

This question pertains to Network Analyst Backhaul Optimization: How can I configure it to ignore the one-way travel direction restriction? The reason I need this is because placement of fiber optic cable does not depend on the travel direction of vehicles, and the routes being generated are resulting in unnecessary length due to divided highways causing u-turns. Thank you in advance networkanalyst backhaul optimization#
