Awesome. This has been some incredible help you've given. Finally getting somewhere on my end. Will work some more on it tomorrow and follow-up.

Wow, that was actually a pretty easy way to turn the labelling on. But when it comes to the imported lines from CAD, when creating the CAD to Geodatabase, It still puts all of the lines on the same layer. In ArcMap, you taught me to right click on the layer, open layer properties, Click Symbology tab, select Categories, select "Unique Value, many fields", and then "add all values" - which would then put the geometry on different layers. I don't see a similar process in Pro. Is there a similar process?

The first screenshot shows my Autocad file imported. The colors of the lines now in ArcGIS are the same as Autocad which is awesome and everything is on separate layers same as Autocad. This next image shows what the content looks like after the CAD to Geodatabase runs. I shut off all the Autocad layers and leave the new Geodatabase content on (shown in red). But now all of the annotation is gone, all of the original Autocad colors have switched to something else by default, and all of the geometry has been condensed into only a few layers. Not what I wanted.

The Cad to Geodatabase tool doesn't seem to keep the annotation/text from the original CAD drawing. Am I missing a step?

I've made the switch to ArcPro. Is there a process for converting cad to shape file geodatabase? Or is it the same as it was in Arcmap?

I'm trying to edit an attribute table and from what I can see the table is not editable currently as the Add/Delete/Calculate buttons are greyed out. I've been trying to find a tutorial on this but what I've found starts off with the assumption that a table is editable.

I'm already liking Pro much better than ArcMap. But I also understand some have found the switch problematic. I was just watching a video tutorial on how to edit an attribute table. In my case (as the video showed) the edit buttons are all greyed meaning you can't edit just yet. But in the video when she explains how to enable editing, what she says is unintelligible. What is the trick to turning edit mode on?

Yeah I think that's the problem, I'm running Pro 1.2. But I did find the add data button and was able to have some success. What I didn't realize was that I have to add a new map in order to make those ribbon functions turn on. I'm much happier with how it imports cad data. It keeps the line colors and line weights from the original; cad file.

Hi Adrian, Yes I have access to ArcGIS Pro. I've just activated it and am in it now getting the lay of the land. I havePro open right now. The only thing for starters that I can't see is how to open the Catalog window. A online article states to find it in View>Windows and then lick on the catalog pane. But I don't see that option.

When I use the CAD to Geodatabase function, all of the separate layers that were in Autocad are now all moved to one layer in ArcMap. I want to be able to turn certain layers of polylines off. Picture of how my cad layers imported into ArcMap:

I could bring in just the new waterline geometry only. I'd then have to reclassify old geometry for waterlines that were abandoned or remove geometry and data for stuff that was demolished or removed. Is removing geometry from ArcMap difficult?

Hi, I work primarily in Autocad for all of the drawings of my airport. This is because of Autocad being an industry go-to (for the most part) for all things relating to construction and mapping, or at least in my business it seems to be. So when a contractor puts in new waterlines, they give me an Autocad drawing that is geolocated. I then paste the geometry into my Autocad "base map" of the entire site. My next step is to the bring the entire set of waterlines into ArcMap pulling the dwg file from the Catalog by using the Cad to Geodatabase tool. I can then create/view/edit my attribute table. But what happens when a year later after new construction and I use the Cad to geodatabase tool to bring in the updated waterlines cad drawing, does the new drawing overwrite/erase all of the existing geodata in ArcGIS?
