Hi there, I'm interested in adding a layer that is 'hidden' in GeoServer (i.e., not known publicly through the GetCapabilities document) to a public-facing ArcGIS Online map. Online help (e.g., this document) have advised that this is possible through: 1. Creating a user group. 2. Creating a role and associating the user group to the role. 3. Configuring how the layers will be advertised. It might happen that the GetCapabilities is opened to anyone and that you may want to advertise or not the layer. This is done in the Data Security/Catalog mode configuration. I have followed these steps by creating User Group 'restricted', role 'restricted' and adding the layer in question to this role with Catalog Mode "Hide". This hides the layer from the GetCapabilities document, though when attempting to add it to ArcGIS Online I have yet to find a WFS URL from our GeoServer which successfully loads the restricted layer in AGOL. Has anyone solved this dilemma before and if so how did you configure the settings in GeoServer to do so? Thank you! Ben

Hi there, We run a GeoServer GIS server application which offers OGC Standard layer services in WFS, WMS, and WMTS formats. Incorporation of these formats to the AGOL web map is possible, as well as with applications such as Dashboard and WebAppbuilder. However, when using these formats in an AGOL web map tied to Experience Builder, they are not being registered by the Experience Builder interface. Is there a plan to incorporate usage of OGC Standard layer services into Experience Builder? Thank you! Ben

Hi there, Thank you for your assistance with this potentially basic question, I am new to Python. I would like to automate the following workflow, so am seeking confirmation if it is possible: Pull a shapefile download from an ArcGIS hosted feature service. Clip the shapefile. Reupload to ArcGIS Online as a hosted feature service. Automate the repetition of this process so that layers remain current. I believe this should be possible, maybe using a combination of ArcPy and ArcGIS API for Python. Has anyone tried this? Thank you, Ben

Hi David, Yes I see you are correct now. Looking at this further, I realized that I was using an Arcade expression in the 'Symbology' pane. This is why I was not able to symbolize a second attribute as desired once another expression had been entered there. To elaborate, using the Arcade expression: var geom2 = Polygon({...}); Area(Difference($feature, geom2), 'square-miles'); I am able to successfully 'clip' the ArcGIS Rest Service data layer to a polygon by symbolizing it using the 'type (unique symbols)' style so that only resulting features from the above expression show. However, as previously mentioned this inhibits me from symbolizing a second attribute as desired. I like your idea of creating a field that contains a boolean result, then filtering based on that. However, I do not see how to create a field using Arcade unless I go into the 'Data' window of the Rest Service's Content page. Unfortunately I am not the owner of the data layer, and it seems as though the custodian has locked this screen for access (even when I copy/paste the service URL and add the layer to my own AGO). Is there a way to add a field using Arcade directly within the Map Viewer and populate it with the results of an Arcade expression similar to the one above? Thank you, Ben

Hi Dylan, Thank you for your response. Yes that is correct, I am referring to when an app (ie interactive map or story map) is opened from our Hub page. I guess I was hoping there was maybe a 'Minimize side panel by default' setting button somewhere that I had missed, but I have yet to find anything. Thank you, Ben

Hi there, As the title states, I am trying to minimize the More Info side panel of ArcGIS Hub by default. The below screenshot shows an example of freshly opened content with default side panel when viewed as an Explore page in our Hub. I understand the side panel can be minimized by clicking the 'More Info' button, however we would prefer if the content was full screen to begin with, with side panel minimized, as this can take up valuable screen space. I have checked the ArcGIS Hub settings but have yet to find anything promising. Thank you, Ben

Thank you for your reply. I'm thinking I may have to read the service into FME as an ArcGIS Server Service, perform clipping there, and then write out a hard copy version of the dataset.

Thank you for your reply. This was my thought as well, however from what I can tell so far it looks like I would not be able to symbolize by a second attribute in an aesthetically pleasing way while also doing this. That being said I haven't fully explored the option so maybe it could work.

Hello, I am brining an ArcGIS Online layer into Map Viewer as a Web Service. The ArcGIS Online Web Service in question is: https://maps.gov.bc.ca/arcserver/rest/services/mpcm/bcgwpub/MapServer/75?f=pjson Is it possible to clip the Web Service to a polygon or extent within Map Viewer? I have attempted setting a Custom Parameter for 'extent' as well as 'fullExtent' for the layer, to no success. The hope here was that the layer would essentially be clipped to a bounding box. Even better would be if a polygon could be used instead of a bounding box. Additionally, I have looked into using the Clip and Intersect arcade expressions within the layer style. However, this seems to provide a boolean or numeric indication of occurrences of features that intersect or fall within the clip, as opposed to actually creating a layer that has been subsetted to show a smaller region. Here is the Intersect Arcade expression used: var geom2 = Polygon({ "rings": [ [[-13955923,6470764],[-13631489,6492862],[-13889128,6123228],[-13616423,6122224]] ],"spatialReference": { "wkid": 3857 } }); EnvelopeIntersects($feature, geom2); Thank you for any assistance you can provide in helping me 'Clip' an AGOL Web Service to a smaller area. -Ben

Hi there, We have an application developed in version 1.4 of Web AppBuilder for Developer. The application includes a number of custom created widgets. We are now trying to alter the source of the ArcGIS Online map that is used in the application. When trying to load the app in Web AppBuilder for Developer (version 2.13), we get an 'invalid app' error, so the map source can not be set that way. We have also tried altering lines 221 and 234 of config.json so that the map 'itemID:' and 'portalUrl' reflect our map and ArcGIS Online information, respectively. However, when viewing the application in a web browser it throws the type error 'Cannot read property 'portalURL' of undefined error, as well as the Uncaught TypeError: 'Cannot read property 'setAttribute' of undefined at setTiles'. Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct these errors? Thank you, Ben

Hi there, The organization I work for has been using GeoServer for spatial data and GeoNetwork for metadata, running them both on a Jetty webserver. We are interested in switching from GeoServer to ArcGIS Server but continuing to use GeoNetwork. The diagram below depicts our proposed system architecture: Is the proposed system architecture a viable option for incorporating ArcGIS Server? We are particularly interested in whether ArcGIS Web Adaptor will allow us to serve both GeoNetwork and ArcGIS Server over port 8080 from an Apache Tomcat webserver. Thank you, Ben

Hi there, We host our data on GeoServer and use ArcGIS Online to create our maps. However, when I add a GeoServer layer to ArcGIS Online as an OGC Web Map Service, add it to a map, select enable pop-up and click the layer, the pop-up appears blank with no attributes showing in it. Here is the link to our GeoServer: http://soggy.zoology.ubc.ca:8080/geoserver/wms? service=wms& version=1.1.1& request=GetCapabilities and the layer I have been testing is 'ShoreZone Algae and Kelp'. Any help on this issue would be much appreciated. Thank you, Ben
