HI, I just installed the Flash 10.2 players and and using Flash Builder 4 with the Flex 4.1 SDK that comes with it. I can play my flex projects, but can't debug. So it did the usual download/install of the debug players, which usually fixes it. But Flex complains it can't find the playergloabl.swc in the 4.1 SDK folder... Found on google that i need to have the Flex 4.5 Hero SDK installed - which i tried to do, but still won't debug. Also read on the google that Flash Builder 4 only supports up to flash 10.1!!! Can anyone shed some light on how to deal with this?! I need to debug my flex apps, or revert back to the 10.1 version of flash - tried to do that, but could not download that version from Adobe?! Thanks, Pete

With ArcGIS Server 9.3.1, the REST API does not honor field aliases set in an MXD if the map service is based on the MXD, and not an MSD (optimized map service). If this a bug or can anyone help me get the REST API to show the field aliases. I cannot do an MSD due to some complexities in my MXD.

Hi, I have been using the Bing basemaps with my Flex 2.1 web projects and has been fine. It was full featured with a lot of detail - all was working great. Then i upgraded my flex api to 2.2, and the Bing basemap reverted to a dull gray map with very few road/town/city etc.. features. It looks desolate and dull. I have tried getting new Bing keys and that has not solved the problem. Attached are 2 images, one of the 'normal or nice' Bing basemap (bing_orig_s.png), and the other of the new dull/gray basemap (bing_new_s.png). Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks, Pete

Hi, This sounds simple, but is tedious. I am performing some modeling client-side in actionscript using an array of points layed out in a uniform grid. Could be 10,000 or more depending on detail of the model. The model essentially calculates the distance from each model point to a target GIS layer (typically a polygon layer), which may have 100s of polygons. So, for each model point, to get the shortest distance to a polygon, you have to iterate over all the target polygons' vertices and perform a distance calc, keeping the shortest one. Each target polygon could have hundreds of verticies, so you see how this does not scale well. Is there a FAST way in actionscript using ESRI MapPoint and Polygon objects to determine a distance? Any help would be great! Thanks, Pete

HI, Often times i need to copy an Array of Graphics and it is not that easy. For some reason the ESRI objects fail when you use the ObjectUtil.copy() function. Below is a bit more code, consisting of 3 functions which is clone your Graphic objects (and anything else) when you needs to get deep clones or copies. Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks, Pete // These following 3 functions are used to deep // clone objects. public static function deepClone(source:Object):Object { var clone:Object; if(source) { clone = newSibling(source); if(clone) { copyData(source, clone); } } return clone; } private static function newSibling(sourceObj:Object):* { if(sourceObj) { var objSibling:*; try { var classOfSourceObj:Class = getDefinitionByName(getQualifiedClassName(sourceObj)) as Class; objSibling = new classOfSourceObj(); } catch(e:Object) {} return objSibling; } return null; } private static function copyData(source:Object, destination:Object):void { //copies data from commonly named properties and getter/setter pairs if((source) && (destination)) { try { var sourceInfo:XML = describeType(source); var prop:XML; for each(prop in sourceInfo.variable) { if(destination.hasOwnProperty(prop.@name)) { destination[prop.@name] = source[prop.@name]; } } for each(prop in sourceInfo.accessor) { if(prop.@access == "readwrite") { if(destination.hasOwnProperty(prop.@name)) { destination[prop.@name] = source[prop.@name]; } } } } catch (err:Object) { ; } } }
