Hi all I'm new to this, and I have a problem I need to solve, and would love to get some help. I have a spread sheet listing 800+ locations (coordinates) in Swedish Grid coordinates (EPSG:2400 RT90 2.5 gon W). I use ArcMap to plot thees on a map. I want to find a simple way to use ArcGis to calculate the shortest FLYING (straight line) route to fly all to all this locations. I need to start on one point, and end at another point. So it's NOT a classic Traveling Salesman Problem where start and end is the same point. It need to be straight lines ??as a bird fly?, passing all locations in the best order so total distance is the shortest. I would like it to calculate and present the distance between each leg. It's rather short distance between the points and I will ignore elevation data. All route solutions I have found so fare is for finding the best route in a road systems, that don't help me 😞 I would really appreciate some help And again, I??m new to this so please keep it simple. Thanks in advance

Hi Thanks for all this information. I will do my best and see if I can try it out. I??m totally new at this, I??m using a 60 day trail of ArcGIS to see if it useable for this kind of problem solving. I have no training what so ever in the software, so even the simplest task is difficult for me to perform. So it will be a lot of reading up in the help segments on all features mention 🙂 Thanks again for all inputs

Hi all I'm new to this, and I have a problem I need to solve, and would love to get some help. I have a spread sheet listing a big number of locations (coordinates). I have plotted all points on to a mat in ArcMap. My problem is how to get the software to calculate the shortest straight line flying "route" to fly all to all this locations. It???s like a Traveling Salesman Problem, our the route function built in to ArcGis, but in this case there is no roads. It need to be straight lines ???as a bird fly???, passing all locations in the best possible order so total distance is the shortest. I would like it to calculate the best order to pass the points, calculate and present the distance between each leg, and total distance as well. I would like it to work like "points to line", but sort the points in the best order so the total distance is the smallest possible. The issue that geodesic distance is not the linear distance will not be a problem for me. All this is very short distances so that difference will not be a problem. All route solutions I have found so fare is for finding the best route in a road systems, that don't help me. I would really appreciate some help. And again, I???m new to this so please keep it simple. Thanks!

Actually not, that will not be problem. This is short distance flying with helicopters, in a limited area with many locations spread out. As the distance is so short, a linear distance in the projected map is just fine. My big problem is how to calculate and present the order that will result in the shortest total distance

Thanks for that reply. I'm really new to this, so it took me a while to even get a line beetween the points. But I have mangened to do that now. But the sorting I do not know how to fix. I want it to calculate the order of point that generate the shortest total distance. The sorting in point to line don't allow for that. Any help with that part? Thanks
