This question is not answered. I've been developing to the latest API for iOS and I still don't see a delegate function that fires on user touch pan and zoom. Basic stuff to know the user's interactions here. Clicking or tap and hold gives me nothing. Unless I'm missing something.

This is fine within the specific handler for each symbol because I know that the user is creating a point or a line. The problem is when the user opens the application and it fetches the annotations from the database. I didn't want to have to parse each type in order create the correct symbol and geometry separately. I just want to call Graphic(json) where json has all this information already per the API documentation.

Thanks for the reply. I understand your response but this solution won't work for me. I need to understand why toJson() works for some symbols but not others. More important, why it does't work for line symbols. If toJson works perfectly for point and polygon symbols why would I expect a different outcome for the other remaining symbols with the same toJson function?

Here is a sample http://jsfiddle.net/phoxoey/tcLtq/11/ In the setSymbolType() function, if you switch from creating a Cartographic to creating a SimpleLine,.. it will work but by default, creating a Graphic from a Cartographic json object will not work. Thanks for look at this.

To add more to this weird issue is the fact that I can get a CartographicLine symbol to create from json only if I create it as a SimpleLineSymbol. But If create a SimpleLineSymbol json object and try to create a simpleLineSymbol from that json, it doesn't work. This has to be a Esri bug.

Using 3.8. Creating a drawing tool and I'm storing the "toJson()" results in the database. Everything works fine for points and polygons. I can recreate them by simply calling new.Graphic(json); Here is the issue,??? Line symbols or CartographicLineSymbol symbols will not recreate from json. The graphic object gets created with all the attributes and geometry but symbol = null. Has anybody else experience this? Thanks.

If this helps, I had the same problem. I was using ClusterLayer.js via a dojo.require("extra.ClusterLayer"); Within this file, (ClusterLayer.js), there is a dojo.declare("extras.ClusterLayer", esri.layers.GraphicsLayer, { ....etc...}); What solved my issue was adding, to the top of this file, dojo.require("esri.layers.graphics"); reason being that this file was expanding GraphicsLayer without first added the the sub class first. Not sure why this worked on earlier versions though.

I'm getting the same thing. I can get it to work by clearing my cache and restarting the browser about a half a dozen times.

Do I really need the whole ArcGIS Portal Package just to have access to the utility that parses kml/kmz files? Our customer does not want their kml/kmz data out on a public server. Could just the utility be made available? Can someone please explain to me why this capability is limited to only public URL's but all other layer types can be internal?

I maybe working with some sensitive kml data so my question to ESRI is, could this "converter" be available to customers to live behind their firewall?

There is something else going on here behind the scenes. I'm working on my local development environment. I have setup a local server, opened it up via a crossdomain file and put the kml file on it. (http://localhost/kml/kmlfile.kml). When I run my flex app it will not bring that kml file in as a layer. Is there something I'm missing here? Is it because my flex app is running from my file system vs the same server? I thought the crossdomain file would fix this access issue. Captain clueless here.

I was hoping someone could shed some light on the needed steps to get a local KML to display on the map. I can get public KML files to load fine but I'm looking for a way to allow the user to display KML files that they may have on there local machine. Is the utility that ESRI uses to parse the public kml/kmz files available for other ArcGIS servers?

sdat, I've noticed that the KML file must be Public in order for parsing. I work in an area that might require some sensitive kml data, any plans at ESRI to provide some local parsing? Thanks.
