Have you tried dojo/ready (not the domReady! plugin)? See the notes on Dijits/Widgets on the domReady! documentation: http://dojotoolkit.org/reference-guide/1.9/dojo/domReady.html#dojo-domready. Best, Roberto Pepato

actually i have a client who has a simple map build in arcgis 10. Now he wants me to make a site where the map will be shown and if a user clicks on a shape file it's attribute will be shown . As simple as that.now i dont understand that where i will upload my map files.as its a very simple task i dont want to buy any service like arc gis for server.is there a way to do it free. I tried to make a map in arcgis.com,and i also tried to upload shape files that i have. But it says that i cant upload because it has more then 1000 features. So,my main problem is where to upload maps(free if possible) and how to access it.i dont have any problem with uploading it on cloud. I dont know what to do.plz help 😞 You could use an ArcGIS for Developers account. With such account, you'll get 50 free credits per month, that can be used for development and testing. Do you have ArcGIS for Desktop installed? If so, you can just upload your map directly from it. Also, take a look at these links: http://training.esri.com/Courses/ts_AGOHostedWSvcs/player.cfm? http://www.esri.com/library/brochures/pdfs/quick-start-arcgis-online-organizations.pdf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxaGVs9csAw Let me know if it helps. I am a little bit unclear about arcgis for server? what is it and what it's purpose? how can i use it? do i have to install it on server? ( I don't have arcgis for server) . How to use cloud to host my map?? Please can you elaborate? I really need to know. Thanks in advance 😄 Hello, do you did follow the links on my last post? I think that you'll got some answers by exploring them. In short: ArcGIS for Server: An application server to publish geographical information and enable Web GIS; ArcGIS for Developers: A cloud solution that enables developers to author, publish and share your geographic content (maps & data); ArcGIS API for Javascript: An api to consume web GIS data published through ArcGIS for Server or ArcGIS Online (the ArcGIS for Developers is just an ArcGIS Online "view" focused on the developers community); If you have any specific question, feel free to ask. Best, Roberto Pepato.

Hello, I am working on a little mini-webmap that uses a LocateButton to zoom to my current-ish location. I also have a function that queries a cell from a raster that is provided via a published service. How can I get the X/Y of the location the LocateButton places me at? Would there be a better method of doing this? I'm open to suggestions. Essentially I'd like a user to click the button and a modal window opens with the results of the query for the given location. Thanks! I think that the position property on the locate event should work for you. Best, Roberto Pepato

I am new in arcgis . I just made a map in arcgis in my pc. Now i want to show this map in my site using javascript. Where should i upload these map files? And how to access them by javascript? You have to publish your map as MapService on your own ArcGIS for Server instance (if you have one), or in the cloud, using for example ArcGIS for Developers. You can access your published MapService through the ArcGIS API for Javascript. Best, Roberto Pepato

Editing a specific geodatabase version is supported in the JS API. For example, you can use the FeatureLayer.setGDBVersion(...) to target a specific geodatabase version. Wow, this is great! I didn't known this capability. Maybe someone from Esri could adjust the documentation (see the note box) on ArcGIS Server 10.1 to reflect this information? http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/Publishing_feature_services/015400000337000000/ Regards, Roberto Pepato.

Hello everyone, Anyone editing SDE versions with Javascript applications. Thanks Are all your javascript users editing the same SDE version? If your answer is yes, just publish your feature service with the correct version set and you are good to go. If you need to choose at runtime which version the data will be posted to, you'll need to talk to the rest API. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/Publishing_feature_services/015400000337000000/ http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/rest/apiref/ Regards, Roberto Pepato

Dear All I am currently working with javascript api 3.8. I need to have 2 time sliders for the map one for raster and one for vector, but id doesnot allow me to create multiple timesliders and I get an error that the time slider is already registered. Any help on this would be appreciated! Thanks Deepika I think that you can't do it. Map only allows you to set one timeslider. Maybe the (not so good, certainly not elegant) solution is to create two different maps in different divs, attaching a different timeslider to each one. Then, you can control the visibility of which map (and so which timeslider) should be visible at any moment.

My personal advice is: Do not try to make any analogies between javascript and any other programming language (maybe this statement can be relaxed if you came from functional languages and paradigms, but I think that this is not the case for mostly Esri programmers). This is because probably, as Douglas Crockford says: Javascript is the world's most misunderstood programming language. Try to understand the specific idiosyncrasies of javascript, like for example: the this keyword in javascript can be bind to different things depending on the context in it was called. Don't try to understand Javascript as a pure OO language. Can you use objects in javascript? Surely you can! Can you use OO basic concepts like inheritance (yes, but maybe not the way you're thinking). In my opinion, the strengths of javascript are connected with its functional design. Try to learn about functions as first class citizens, high order functions, closures, currying, lazy evaluations, generators and etc. These concepts can really speed up your understanding and productivity when programming in javascript. Read good books and references about Javascript (you'll find plenty of it on the internet). Javascript: The Good Parts from Crockford is an excellent starting point. Be sure to read about and understand the dojo toolkit. The Esri javascript api is built on top of it and understanding it will make your life easier. Also, pay attention to the ecosystem in addition to the language. Javascript is a pervasive language and you'll find it from browser to server (node.js), from task automation (grunt) to dependency management (npm, bower) to unit tests (karma, mocha) and even more. Last but absolutely not least: Try to join the development community by contributing to an open source project. It doesn't need to be a GIS project (but it will probably be nice if it is 🙂 ). Find a project that fits your current level of understanding and try to understand how others are growing the project. Read and play with someone else's code is a good exercise for learn new stuff. Well, those are my personal opinions regarding my experience (still) learning JS. Hope that helps. Regards, Roberto Pepato

Hi, thank for your answer. I try like this : "var symb = new esri.symbol.SimpleFillSymbol(esri.symbol.SimpleFillSymbol.STYLE_DIAGONALCROSS); symb.setColor(new dojo.Color("#CC33FF"));" but the lines are still black. Did I miss something? Thanks According to the documentation, calling setColor will return a new symbol but I think that this new symbol is not automatically "attached" to the graphic. Try this: var mySymbol = symb.setColor(new dojo.Color("#CC33FF"));
yourGraphicInstance.setSymbol(mySymbol); or maybe just construct the object with the desired fill color: new esri.symbol.SimpleFillSymbol(esri.symbol.SimpleFillSymbol.STYLE_DIAGONALCROSS, new SimpleLineSymbol(SimpleLineSymbol.STYLE_SOLID, new Color([255,0,0]), 2), new Color([0,255,0]));
Please, let me know if any of these worked for you.

Downloaded the simple map viewer template from GithHub to deploy a web map locally on our ArcGIS Server. In the config/defaults.js file there is a sharinghost setting, which defaults to arcgis.com. The comment there says to "set this value to your portal or organization host name". During debugging I am seeing this being used to access REST urls that don't exist on our ArcGIS server (at AGS 10.1), so errors are being thrown although not to the end user. If I set this to "" it causes other errors when attempting to parse this value elsewhere in the code. Looking for clarification as to what this setting is intended for. Thanks. I think that it expects an url for a portal for arcgis instance (much like ArcGIS Online, but on premise), not an ArcGIS Server.

Like this: var fireFeature0 = new esri.layers.FeatureLayer(fireFeatureUrl0 + "?token=" + editToken, {
mode: esri.layers.FeatureLayer.MODE_ONDEMAND,
outFields: ['*']
}); Then I would use: map.removeLayer(fireFeature0); Of course, the Url and editToken are defined above but within the same function that is loading the layer, should they be global also maybe? Humm.. I don't think so. Are you using a public feature layer? It would be possible to post the full source code so I can reproduce the problem from my end and try some debugging?

Hi I am trying to add Clustering to my map and am having a problem with "extras/ClusterLayer". I have downloaded the "extras" file and added this code... var dojoConfig = { paths: { extras: "../StormWater/extras" } }; I added "extras/ClusterLayer" to the require([...]) and added "CustomLayer" to the "function(...)" as in example http://projectserver.dataplus.ru/arcgis_js_api/sdk/jssamples/layers_point_clustering.html. However now the map does not display. Any ideas? What happens if you change it to
var dojoConfig = {
paths: {
extras: location.pathname.replace(/\/[^/]+$/, "") + "/StormWater/extras"
}
};
?
