I want this too it's so frustrating using the drag and drop method, especially with maps with so many layers on them.

Hi, we have an enterprise GIS system, and have now created locators that everyone can use for their geocoding at a national level. However it seems that unless the people are located in head quarters the geocoder crashes as it tries to access the servers in HQ, when they are in other parts of the country. We have had the same issue with data and have had to create replications of the data for each state. Is it possible to redirect a locator to access the users data replication, or do we have to re-create and build a new locator for them all? thanks for any help Paula

Thanks Mark, that makes sense. I have 9.3.1 ArcInfo...phew. I'll have to get a python wiz to get a loop sorted for me. Thanks for your help Paula

Hi, I have 2 layers: Point layer of outlets polygon layer of outlet catchment area There is an outlet_ID attribute on both layers. Several polygons in the catchment layer make up the catchment for one outlet, so there will be several polygons with the same outlet_ID. The outlet point is not necessarily in the middle of the catchment area. Is it possible to work out the distance from the outlet point to the farthest edge of the catchment? thanks Paula

Hi, I have been experimenting with Hot Spot analysis a bit since my last post and managed to get it working for some point data we required (at least i think i did). I've now been tasked (after they liked it so much) to extend on it and I'm now working with volume data based on area boundaries. They would like hot spots done for these. I went through the same sort of procedure as for points (except not need to integrate and collect events) and I have experimented with analysis based on state or national scales, various distances (based on doing the autocorrelation, and classification types. Attached are the results of my analysis using Zone of Indifference at a state based distance of 45,000m. My polygons are very uneven and unevenly dispersed. some also have no known volume. When you look at the results (and it gets more confusing when looking at all the different results from different options) you can see where the highest volumes are on the bottom image. how come after hotspot analysis not all these high volumes are included in a hot spot? I would have though all these high volumes together would make one hotspot, but do the polygons have to be touching for that to occur? Other results were putting hotspots where there was low volume counts. even more confusing. Am i missing something here?

Hi Lauren, Thanks for the help, i've been learning heaps and the videos are great. Just one thing I can't find. In the Performing Proper Density Analysis video you talk about your aggreation model. I think this is exactly what i need to do to get a count. I have been hunting on the site for the tutorial you mention that takes you step by step through creating these aggregated points, but I can't find it anywhere. Please could you send me the link for it? I have worked out how to integrate (i'm using the average value obtained by calculating the distance band from neighbor count and it seems to look ok. Just not sure about the rest of the model. thanks Paula

Is there a simple place to start learning about mapping clusters and/or hotspots? I have national datasets of points for each type of business (eg communication, education etc). For each type of business i would like to highlight areas of high concentrations of them...ie areas where we can put new stores for each of these industry types to service them. I have been looking through 'The ESRI Guide to GIS Analysis volume 2: spatial measurements & statistics' which is great, but NOTHING tells me HOW TO DO IT. i see loads of images that i would like to create, but nothing telling me what tool to use or how to use it. For example on page 152 they show nearest neghbor hierarchical clustering...looks good, just no idea where to start. I can't find any tool called 'nearest neighbour hierarchy clusting'. I can't find anything on the ESRI site (including resources) to help me either. any links would be appreciated. I'm not a statistician so need simplicity if at all possible. 😮 any ideas? thanks for any help

Hi there, I would like to find my hotspots or clusters of a point layer. What would be the best way to proceed? I don't have a field that i need to use, this is purely geographic dispersement, so all the tools that require a field for teh analysis aren't going to work. I'm not sure how to find my high clusters of point locations. When i have got results out, it's creating large rings covering too big areas, it's covering all the points and i need micro clusters within the larger clusters. I'm currently trying a smaller cell size and search area in the density tool of spatial analyst to see if that will do it, but it seems that i end up with a raster with no ranges. I can provide images if that helps with the question. Paula

I am exporting a video from ArcGlobe, is it possible to get a legend up to record with it so people viewing it know what all the symbols are? thanks Paula
