I've got an ArcGISImageServiceLayer in my Silverlight application. The service has some NULL cells and some cells with 255,255,255. Both need to be transparent. I can set the NULL cells transparent by using the NoData property. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/silverlight-api/apiref/api_start.htm?esri.arcgis.client~esri.arcgis.client.arcgisimageservicelayer~nodata.html How can I set the 255,255,255 cells to transparent? In ArcGIS desktop I can do this by setting the "Display Backgroud Value (R,G,B) to transparent. I don't see an obvious way to do this in the Silverlight API. Thanks,

Thanks Paul. But my data is ST_GEOMETRY. I have curves in my data which don't come accross when I extract it with third party software. I was looking for an appropriate ST_GEOMETRY function, which apparently doesn't exist.

No that column doesn't exist. I gues that information cannot be extracted with SQL. Thanks, Nick

I see what you're getting at. Good idea. Just out of curiosity is the st_transform only going to work within the extent limits of the SRID?

OK thanks. I have what I need now. But that's going to make it a little difficult to write a statement that works in different instances (development, test, production, etc). I have checked and the SRIDs are not consistant - which I guess I expected. I guess I'll have to write some PL_SQL to get the SRID as a variable where SR_NAME = 'GCS_WGS_1984'. Then use that in the st_transform function. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks, Nick

Thanks for the responce. I didn't notice ST_TRANSFORM. Must the SRID already exist in the SDE.ST_SPATIAL_REFERENCES table? Or is there a list of global SRID values that I can reference? Fortunately GCS_WGS_1984 is in my ST_SPATIAL_REFERENCES table. But what would I do if it wasn't? SELECT st_GeometryType(shape) AS GEOMETRY_TYPE, round(st_x(shape),3) as X_COORD, round(st_y(shape),3) AS Y_COORD, round(st_y(st_transform(shape, 23)),6) as Latitude, round(st_x(st_transform(shape, 23)),6) as Longitude FROM CALGIS.PARIS_MONUMENT

Using spatial SQL is it possible to return coordinates in a different SRID than that of the SDE layer? My data is stored in a custom transverse mercator WGS84 projection and I want to return lat/long WGS84 with st_x and st_y. I'm using ArcSDE 9.2 with Oracle

Is it possible use spatial SQL to identify the st_polygon and/or st_linestring shapes that were constructed with arcs? By arcs I mean true arcs or curves and not line strings. I am using ArcSDE 9.2 with Oracle.

System - SDE 9.2 SP6, Oracle 10.2.0.4, Versioned geodatabase I have several hundred records in my SDE_LOGFILES and several hundred thousand in my SDE_LOGFILE_DATA tables that have persisted even though I have no active SDE sessions. According to the user docs these records are supposed to be truncated when the SDE session disconnects. http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisdesktop/9.2/index.cfm?id=2253&pid=2243&topicname=Log_file_tables_in_a_geodatabase_in_Oracle Is it safe to just delete these records using SQL?

I suggest you download the evaluation and try it out yourself. If you're running with older GPS hardware keep in mind that the ArcPad 10 documentation is now recommending 128 MB RAM. Although I can confirm that it will run on 64 MB units. (GeoXH 2005) I wasn't able to export a lot of data to the device without running into memory problems. Granted I was trying to stress the device...

Santiago, Have you considered that the performance differences yiou are seeing may be due to ArcIMS vs ArcGIS Server rendering and not the database at all? The ArcIMS AXL render is significantly faster (although less extensive catographically) than ArcGIS Server. This is based on experience with ArcIMS/ArsGIS Server 9.2 and earlier. Nick

We've come across an interesting issue with the use of subtypes. We are using ArcSDE 9.2 on oracle with ArcMap 9.2. We plan to upgrade to 10 later this year. When the subtypes in our geodatabase are exposed to the ArcMap user in an edit session the order of the subtylpe list in the featurclass table drop list is "apparently" random. They are not displayed in numeric subtype order or in alphabetical order of the subtype text. I did a little digging into the SDE GDB tables and discovered that the order seems to be based on the order of the actual data in the GDB_Subtypes table. This was probably the way the data was loaded. We have implemented a featureclass with a fairly large number of subtypes and the editors are now complaining that the order they have to deal with is confusing. And I completely agree with them. The only way I can see to resovle this is to drop the subtype completely and manually add the values in the correct order via ArcCatalog, or surgically do the same via SQL. ...Not exactly the type of operation you want to do on an enterprise database... and one that cannot be done now that the data are in production. The order apparently got messed up during implementation from Visio, Could I drop the subtype records from the GDB_Subtypes table and add them back in via SQL? If this were to work it would be the simplest solution. But I don't particularly like having to edit SDE/GDB tables with SQL. Are there any plans to implement the ability to order the return of subtype values? Or has it already been done in ArcGIS 10? You could begin to implement this by adding an order column to the GDB_SUBTYPES table and then get ArcMap to use that value. Or at the very least have the option somewhere in the GDB design to order the values by either the code or the text. While I'm on the topic I might add that modifying the order of Domain values is no piece of cake either. Thanks, Nick Harrison City of Calgary /* SQL Query to return all Subtype values in the Geodatabase */ select GDB_OC.owner, GDB_OC.name as "FEATURE CLASS", GDB_S.Subtypename as "SUBTYPE TEXT", GDB_S.subtypecode as "SUBTYPE CODE" from SDE.GDB_OBJECTCLASSES GDB_OC, SDE.GDB_SUBTYPES GDB_S where GDB_OC.ID = GDB_S.CLASSID

Trimble will allow you to trade in your GeoXT 2003 for a new and better device. (i.e. A GeoXH 2008). ESRI also has a similar offer: http://www.esri.com/partners/hardware/trimble_trade-in.pdf I was recently quoted a $1000 trade in value for a 2003 GeoXM towards a GeoXT or XH from my Trimble dealer. I prefer to deal with the Trimble dealer directly as you getter much better support for the device than from ESRI. I wouldn't be surprised if TopCon would give you a deal for trade in as well. It's certainly worth asking for... Check with your Trimble or Topcon supplier http://www.trimble.com/mgismedia/product_comparison/Field%20Computers%20With%20GPS.xml regards, Nick
