That worked, thanks! Too bad ESRI has it wrong or incomplete in their documentation! Thank you again! CORRECTION: ESRI does have it correct, I was not using the Arcade syntax but thinking of the Desktop simple and obvious language no longer used. Sigh. New tricks are hard.

Arcade statement: IIf($feature.HOLE = "HORIZONTAL",1,2) Error: Arcade cannot assign to constant value. Why? I am trying to set up weighting criteria. I tried setting the field to both long and short numbers, but still get errors. All help appreciated. thank you.

Never mind! I finally found the "convert Symbology to Representation" -- though it NEVER came up when I searched for it. Too bad it can't be used on a broader basis but must be file by file.

After merrily using this method on quite a number of event files, I discovered it wasn't consistently working. Nor did it work to delete the representation and reimport the event specific layer file back in. My symbology combines to fields, and groups them to create my new symbol field. The help files do not make sense to me with their chosen vernacular. I know there is a way to do this, but will someone please translate to more a b c language for me? thanks!

Thank you, Representations does in fact work. Though the directions are unnecessarily hard to find and difficult to follow. The easy (complete) description is First create a layer file In Cataolg, right click on the geodatabase file, select properties Go to Representations tab/New Rule ID Field and Override field - rename or not click import rules from a layer (lyr) file: use the select to find it next finished

This may be the wrong place to post this, so please redirect me! I have a large number of geodatabase point files that I would like to link to a symbology layer. Is this possible? I can find nothing in any of the write-ups to cover the question. To be clear, I mean linked in the geodatabase so when ever they are added to a map, the symbology comes with it.

Thank you for your reply. I actually spent several hours on the phone the other morning with Danny in customer service. (01878791). This was one of a number of problems. The change you recommended, works for that entry, but causes the others to double up. It sets midnight of the first day to midnight the second day. It really needs to be one 24 hour period. I am planning on adding a simple date column without the time attached so I don’t have to use the window. Two out of three datasets worked like they were supposed to. The third was set-up exactly like the second as far as commands (different columns in the table, but format the same where used). But it will not display the symbolized marker with graduated size based on quantity. It selects the correct records, but it will not show them. An issue not covered, as Danny wasn’t familiar with them where the graphs of the time material. One updated as the times changed (but there is apparently no way to show the time on the chart). The other two remained static. At any rate, I thank you for your directions! I had totally forgotten that window option. Nancy Nancy S. I am using ArcMap 10.3. It is one file with a single date range. It works in cumulative mode only. I have it set to daily between 2016/01/01 00:29:36.39 to 2016/11/22 17:07:30.86. There are 3938 records in this file. Time is enabled. On theTime Slider I have it set to Central Time (US & Canada) though I am not using it. The time step interval is 1 day. I am showing the time clock on the display. The time extent is set to my file. Playback has been slowed a bit. Refresh is not set. The background static data is all under a new basemap layer. I have three graphs, but closed or open makes no difference. The points do not display without the cumulative checked.

I was wondering if that fixed the problem? On my data, when I uncheck Cumulative, NOTHING shows up!

I am using Desktop ArcMap v 10.3. I have the display set up in the layout window as recommended with the time showing. (sort of it is really hard to see as it overlays the map instead of in the text border) I have the time slider set up for a daily animation for about two months, and it works. The video ends up with skewed lines across the frame...probably because the screen redisplays everything and takes FOR EVER. So I tried to select sequential images as the export type. It took that but left the name as .avi which I overwrote to .jpeg Options did NOT switch to images but stayed as avi. Export only went to the compression options for the avi. At this point exporting a jpeg would be a whole lot simpler. The help guide also says a graph can be included, but no instruction or link provided. Any ideas or help?
