That was it. "contUnitedStatesExtent" was, in fact, out of scope. Thanks for the help, Kelly. (And thanks for the effort, bundarra.)

Regarding the code at the bottom... I am trying to change the map extent on the fly. My map opens fine to an original extent. I pan away a little bit. I click a button to move it back to the original extent, but it never moves. I know the function executes because I get the alert. Also, when I run it with the last statement (which is commented out here) the map zooms, so I know the setExtent() method will at least work. The wkid (102100) is used by the arcgis.com map server. Am I misunderstanding the correct use of setExtent()? Thanks. var contUnitedStatesExtent = new esri.geometry.Extent({"xmin":-14327455,"ymin":3000000,"xmax":-8199999,"ymax":6000000,"spatialReference":{"wkid":102100}}); map1 = new esri.Map("mapDiv", {extent:contUnitedStatesExtent, wrapAround180:true}); basemap1 = new esri.layers.ArcGISTiledMapServiceLayer ( "http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Topo_Map/MapServer" ); map1.addLayer( basemap1 ); <!-- Change Extent --> function changeExtent () { alert("Inside changeExtent()"); map1.setExtent(contUnitedStatesExtent, true); //map1.setExtent(map1.extent.expand(0.5)); }

Derek, Thanks for the reply. On the sample maps the pop-up moves with the map as it is panned, but I need it to remain in place. What I am trying to do is have a container with controls sit on top of the map (but detached from it). Perhaps InfoWindows (Pop-Ups) are the wrong approach, but I'm not sure how else to superimpose a container on the map. Thanks. -- Matt

Hello, everyone. I am trying to use an InfoWindow as a container for some controls such as buttons and check boxes. I'd like to be able to pan around the map underneath the InfoWindow without it moving. My question is: How do I get an InfoWindow to stay put in one spot on the screen as I pan around? Thanks.

Hello, When I begin my map with an ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer the default scalebar appears correctly. But the moment I add an ArcGISImageServiceLayer the scalebar becomes a small vertical line. The image is a SID tile. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and/or how to prevent it? I am working with ArcServer 10, Flex API 2.4, and Flash Builder 4.5. Any help is appreciated. Matt
