Yes, I'm using the "Coordinates" option in the "Location type" dropdown, with decimal degrees, latitude and longitude coordinates. And I get the error I initially reported (but only for SQL tables/views with more than approx. 50k records). Using the long, lat X,Y coordinates as location input does not work for me with this data set... Do you have any suggestions for me to try?

The "lat" column is the "Y" column and the "long" column is the "X" column... I'm passing in decimal degrees in EPSG 4326... My source data is in Maryland State Plane Feet, but I've had to convert those "X,Y" values to decimal degrees prior to import to Insights, as projected coordinates (other than WMAS) don't seem to be supported yet. I'm curious what "geocoding service" you refer to and when it is activated? Is this only for "address" type locations, as I'd expect? Background: I'm getting my feet wet with Insights to see what it can do... I'm just trying to display parcel centroid point data (for ~250k features) so that I can match this to SQL Server business tables for visualizing queries and analysis. For example, if you wanted to see all of the residential properties with active building permits for the last 6 months and chart the property value distribution for these selected properties. Once you have your geospatial and tabular data loaded and you create the "relationships" to other data tables, can you perform queries on the joined data? Is something like that possible with Insights? Or is that not a good use of this particular tool?

I'm evaluating Insights 2.1 on Portal 10.5.1. I am attempting to access spatial data from Lat, Long columns in a table drawn from a SQL Server table view. The source data has approximately 242,000 records (parcel centroids for a local county government). I can load the table without issue into Insights, but if I attempt to enable a location (using the Lat, Long coordinates) I get a message that says "Something went wrong". No more details. This seems to be a problem with the SIZE of the table to process. I CAN enable location on an subset of the source data using a SQL "select top 10000" table view. I just want to confirm that this IS a limitation with the number of location features? Is there a work around? I have also added a HOSTED feature service layer and this is able to display successfully, but I cannot link the Hosted feature services to SQL Server business tables. Is there a better approach to getting large number of geospatially enabled features into Insights, and get them linked up with SQL Server business tables?

I'd love to know if there was an easier way to do this, but... this works. I _was_ eventually able to make this work as I wanted. Perhaps this would not be an issue in most cases, but I am running a deferred database query in my Splash screen widget (to check a database table record to see if users have accepted the terms and conditions document). This causes a delay between loading of the Splash widget and rendering of the Splash widget interface. I found that I needed to act on the "LoadingShelter" object used by the LayoutManager.js file in jimu.js folder. This LoadingShelter object covers the screen while all widgets are loading and prevents user input while showing a "loading" gif. I first commented out the code (in the _loadPreloadWidgets method) that removes or "destroys" the LoadingShelter in the LayoutManager class (normally runs when all widgets are finished loading). I then made the reference to the LoadingShelter object (still in the LayoutManager class) a "global" variable so that I could access the LoadingShelter's destroy method from my own splash screen widget when I was ready to release the application to user input. I just needed to establish a link to the LayoutManager class from the Splash widget.js file. Now as long as the splash screen widget completes successfully, the LoadingShelter originally created by the LayoutManager is destroyed and removed allowing user input...

Using an older version of Web AppBuilder (1.2), I am trying to use a modified "Splash screen" widget to present Terms and Conditions that must be accepted on initial application load prior to proceeding. This all works well, but on slower internet connections there is a small but usable "window of opportunity" for users to actively click on the map content and tools before the splash screen widget is loaded (which _does_ block access to the map, using a modal dialog panel and an "overlay" div). How can I force the splash screen widget to load _before_ content is available to click on in the map? How can I make that modal overlay div be loaded before the rest of the map content? Is this something that is a known issue with older versions and perhaps is fixed in the latest version? Is this possible to implement using the default "splash screen" widget? EDIT: I appear to be able to partially mitigate this, by putting this line in the "postCreate" function: this.overlayNode.hidden = false; This shortens, but does not eliminate the "window of opportunity" for clicking and accessing the map contents, however. Is it possible to change the load order of onscreen widgets, to prevent map access?

That is good advice for "regular" stand-alone license codes, but I don't think it would have worked in my case (Azure VM deallocation issues) using an EVA license provided by a university for a GIS class. I _could_ get new licenses through the university helpdesk or Esri support every time the Azure VM was deallocated, but that is too much of a hassle and is unrealistic. From your second GeoNet link: "Note: the evaluation registration codes, EVAxxxxxxxxx, use the same FlexNet Publisher mechanism but can only register a single activation. I don't believe they can be rearmed for reuse. When recovering from a TSF corruption a new code must instead be issued."

I'm doing the same thing now with Amazon Workspaces to have a virtual development box for Windows and GIS software for a university class. Pricing is either flat rate monthly or a base fee with hourly charges. I think the break even point is if you use the Workspace VM more than 80 hours a month. I have Visual Studio, ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro running on the 4GB Standard version VM. So far no problems...

One thing to keep in mind with regard to desktop ArcGIS and Azure cloud is that if you choose to stop and then "deallocate" resources (apparently the only way to temporarily stop all charges for using compute resources in Azure), then you will discover that the ArcGIS Desktop license manager thinks the software is installed on a different machine and fails to authorize (and launch) ArcGIS Desktop after restarting the Azure VM. I discovered this the hard way recently in an experimental setup for creating a cloud-based virtual desktop for using Windows and GIS software. This is not a problem when running ArcGIS Pro (different licensing model that reaches out to AGOL for license authorization typically). This might not be an issue with ArcGIS Server licensing if you never "deallocate" Azure resources. I ran into this with the ArcGIS Desktop license manager because I was attempting to save money by stopping the VM when not in use...

Using ArcGIS Pro 1.3.1, I can apply an LYRX file with symbology (natural breaks classfication with 5 classes and out of range class) using the ArcGIS Pro interface and with arcpy (Apply Symbology From Layer). However the "Exclusion Clause" that you can set in the "Advanced" section of the Symbology dialog is not applied to the target layer when the LYRX is applied. I can see the Exclusion clause in the LYRX file (in a text editor as seemingly valid JSON), but I cannot get the Exclusion clause applied through this method. I CAN get the exclusion clause applied in a completely interactive manner through the Symbology interface, but not via the Apply Symbology From Layer tool. My goal is to render a natural breaks legend on one column, while excluding values equal to zero in a second column. And to do this all programmatically via arcpy python tools, so that an output feature class is automatically rendered on the map as desired. I want to avoid needing to reference a normal layer specific definition query (through arcpy or interactively) and instead have the "definition query" embedded in a template symbology LYRX file as an "exclusion clause". snippet from the JSON LYRX file: "exclusionClause" : "Tracts_PopWeightedCenterPoints_SUM_CORRECT_POP = 0", "exclusionLabel" : "Excluded - zero population", "exclusionSymbol" : {...some symbol content here... } Is this something that is just not there in ArcGIS Pro 1.3.1 yet, am I doing something wrong, or is there a work-around? Thanks for your help!

Using a python script tool in ArcGIS Pro 1.3. I am not able to save the edits I make to the "Validation" script editor (in the default built-in editor window). I have also tried to use an external script editor (PyCharm) and the editor opens the file, but I am unable to save my changes so that they show up in ArcGIS Pro. The editor opens a file in a location like this: C:\Users\amurdoch\AppData\Local\Temp\ArcGISPro1944 I was earlier able to make changes, but something changed (perhaps when I set up an external script editor?) and now I cannot edit validation python code. I've tried closing and restarting ArcGIS Pro, and removing the external script editor link in geoprocessing options, but without positive effect. Anyone have an idea what might be wrong and what a potential work-around would be?

I'm assuming that you also have seen the deprecation warning messages in Chrome release version 49 (dev tools console)? So are you saying that the deprecation messages don't show up in Chrome Beta 50 (dev tools console)? Thanks for running the test with the Beta version!

Could you be more specific in your suggestion for a work-around? Which resize() function and which startup() function are you referring to? In the LayoutManager.js file? This file does have a resize() method, but not a startup() method. Where is the _onLogoLoad() method? I can't seem to find this in my WAB Dev Edition 1.2 application. Also, I've now been able to duplicate this consistently by using Chrome Dev Tools to "throttle" the connection down to 2G speeds (250 kbps download speed). Thanks, Andrew

I've been receiving disturbing warning messages in the Chrome dev tools console window while working on a WAB dev edition version 1.2 application. I think I'd seen (and ignored) the messages earlier, but I believe the warning about features that "will be removed" in April 2016 is a recent addition to the warning message. Here is the first message: The XMLHttpRequest progress event property 'position' is deprecated and will be removed in M50, around April 2016. Please use 'loaded' instead. See https://www.chromestatus.com/features/5044837464145920 for more details. and the second message: 'KeyboardEvent.keyLocation' is deprecated and will be removed in M50, around April 2016. Please use 'KeyboardEvent.location' instead. See https://www.chromestatus.com/features/4997403308457984 for more details. Both messages show up referring to "dojo.js" lines. Am I right to to be very afraid of these warnings? Will applications built on Dojo and Esri (WAB 1.2 / JSAPI 3.14) cease to work with Chrome browsers when the version 50 update occurs (latest version of Chrome is currently 49.0.2623.110 m)? What are my options to prevent that from happening? Does the latest version of the JSAPI (version 3.16) resolve this issue? It seems from some poking around that these are core Dojo issues: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27175603/the-xmlhttprequest-progress-event-property-position-is-deprecated-please-use Any insights into this situation are greatly appreciated! Thanks, Andrew

Thanks Rebecca, I should also indicate that if you "resize" the browser window (after this issue occurs), the tool icons "snap back" into their proper place. So for a knowledgeable (gis geek) user, this is not a big deal, but for other less patient (real world) users, it just looks bad and unfinished. That said, do you think this issue might be due to some "timing" issue with deferred rendering of core WAB page elements? Any suggestions for a code work-around (short of resizing the browser window)? Thanks, Andrew
