I am finishing up a map and every time I add a north arrow or scale bar I am getting green horizontal and/or diagonal lines that carry through until the edge of the printing view. Very strange. This has never happened to me before. Anyone know what's the deal?

So to sum this up, with the help of Ted Kowal, add .title() at the end of your attribute that you wish to properly capitalize. Easy

I've read that the label expression python feature in ArcGIS does not require the same indentations as it does elsewhere. My code with those indentations of just two (like you see in the one I've pasted) works perfectly fine, up to the point of wanting to capitalize that specific attribute. Clearly the latter would not work because I simply just had not any clue of what to type Thank you for your help.

Hello, I am trying to create a Python expression for my labels to create a set of multiple lines displaying various field of my attribute table (accomplished), and to make sure that one of the fields that I include has a command to only capitalize the first letter of the word. This is what I have: def FindLabel ( [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.PBLK_N] , [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.PBLK_M] , [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.VITICULTUR] , [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.PBLK_PLANT] , [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.ACRES] , [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.VineRow] , [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.TRELLIS] , [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.DIRECT] , [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.RTSTLK] 😞 return " " + [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.PBLK_N] + ' ' + '-' + ' ' + [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.PBLK_M] + '\n' + [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.VITICULTUR] + ' ' + '-' + ' ' + [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.PBLK_PLANT] + '\n' + [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.ACRES] + ' ' + 'acres' + ' ' + '-' + ' ' + [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.VineRow] + '\n' + [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.TRELLIS] + ' ' + '-' + ' ' + [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.DIRECT] + ' ' + '-' + ' ' + [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.RTSTLK] S = [CentralValleyRanches_AllInfo_woCOORD_REDO.txt.VITICULTUR] S = S.title() return S The expression successfully created this. However, I want to make the "MERLOT" in the label into "Merlot" My questions are: 1. How do you add multiple commands within an expression? 2. Is there something you must include each time there is a new command? Many thanks in advance!

Hi Xander, I am in advanced editor. How come you wouldn't recomment it? Do you think that is what is causing the error message? Thank you for the multiple field help, though.

What I'm Trying To Do: To begin, I am very, VERY, new to Python and can't wrap my head around scripting. So I need all the help I can get. Bear with me, please. I am intending to use four fields as a stacked label for each polygon in the shapefile. I want them to look like this: What I have: So far I have two of the four fields prepared. I wanted to make sure that I could successfully stack at least two fields before going on and finalizing the other two. Wouldn't want to do all that work just to be told I have to redo it. So in the example, I will provide the two attribute fields that I have. CV_Ranches_Table_ArcGIS.txt.First CV_Ranches_Table_ArcGIS.txt.Second First representing what I want for the first line, second representing the second. I am aware that this discussion title is only reworded a bit in the ArcGIS Help 10.2 seen here: ArcGIS Help (10.2, 10.2.1, and 10.2.2) "Create stacked text. For example, this expression creates a label with the Name field and the two address fields all on separate lines: "Name: " + [NAME] + '\n' + [ADDRESS_1] + '\n' + [ADDRESS_2] " This is what I'm exactly looking for! To stack multiple attribute fields into one label. In Label Expression, I attempted to copy and paste this code into my expression dialogue window. With my code looking like: def FindLabel ( [CV_Ranches_Table_ArcGIS.txt.First], [CV_Ranches_Table_ArcGIS.txt.Second] 😞 return [CV_Ranches_Table_ArcGIS.txt.First] [CV_Ranches_Table_ArcGIS.txt.Second] "Name: " + [CV_Ranches_Table_ArcGIS.txt.First] + '\n' + [CV_Ranches_Table_ArcGIS.txt.Second] After selecting the first and second attribute fields, it automatically added the "def FindLabel" code so I kept it thinking this was standard beginning for all codes... But I receive an error message each time. What I'm Receiving: In the words of a very, most surely, well-known Beatles' song... "HELP. I need somebody." Also.... Is there are a way to make multiple, individual fields on the same line? (If I decide to create different excel cells for the remainder of attributes I have yet to create. This would make it faster, I think. As far as inputting them in the spread sheet, anyway.) Cheers!

Hi Dan, I'm working with multispectral data that was put into a layer stack. When received, I was not informed of the band combinations used in the raster. I'm using ERDAS Imagine, and the user who stacked the raster used Imagine as well. After stacking the user saved it as an image (*.IMG) file. Is there a way to separate the stack to identify which layers were used? The layers are now titled layer 1, 2, 3...etc, but I know that these layers are not with the like band numbers. Thanks.

Thanks, David. I was starting to assume that was the case. Looks like it won't be as user-friendly. Haha. Sigh. Regards, Maegan

Yes. But what about the parameter description. Not the tool in its entirety (I've successfully done so), but rather when I click on the parameter (in your example photo: Gebied_Clip), I would like for it to provide an explanation. An explanation for the respective paramater when a user selects it is what I am trying to figure out. Thank you.

Hi Xander, Thanks for the quick reply. I am aware of this dialog. As shown in the first image, I have typed the description for each parameter. My question is why the description of each parameter shows up as "unavailable" in the Batch Mode option (second picture), when I have filled in the information.

I created a model in ModelBuilder and am adding descriptions for other users. So far I was able to edit the descriptions through ArcCatalog and the explanations in the "Dialog Reference" box are saved (below). The issue that I have is when I view the model in Batch Mode. I would like to add a description to the sidebar about the selected parameter. I assumed that the Dialog Reference Explanations seen in ArcCatalog would be seen in Batchmode, but it isn't. It states "No description available". I am trying to make this model extremely user-friendly, and I think the descriptions in the sidepanel would be great! I am just stuck on how to get there. How do you add the description? Does the Dialog Reference relate to the sidebar description?
