Michael - Here are my thoughts after consulting with some of our experts and some of their maps and information products. 1. Read the resource page for Make Closest Facility 2. Make sure you have a Network Dataset that is formatted for your analysis 3. Create "incidents" using either building centroids or block centroids using the Feature to Point geoprocess and use these for the Closest Facility Analysis. 4. Join the calculated routes back to the incidents. Calculated routes contain the target facilityID. Join this to the incidents based on the incident id. 5. Visualize theoretical service areas using the Create Thiessen Polygons based on the facility / incident relationships and then symbolize your network by the service polygon they fall in. see the live map Please let us know if you try this approach and how it works if you do. Of course, if anyone else has done this before please reply to the thread. Thanks for posting! - Paul Sorry Paul, I replied before seeing your post. I will try this out as well. Thanks for the tip!

Hello! I think you are looking at creating Service Areas using Network Analyst (Location-Allocation is a good option as well). Here is a link to the Service Area doc: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//004700000048000000 and help with Network Analyst in general: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Types_of_network_analysis_layers/004700000032000000/ A good starting point is the Network Analyst tutorial: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/About_the_ArcGIS_Network_Analyst_tutorial/00470000005r000000/ Service Area tutorial: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Exercise_5_Calculating_service_areas_and_creating_an_OD_cost_matrix/004700000060000000/ Thanks to both of you, but the Service Area did the trick.

I am currently working with our Fire Department and they would like to create "First Due" polygons. These polygons would basically be the areas that a station can respond to faster than any other fire station within our city. We have used drivability tools to predict the drive times from a given stations, but we are interested in taking this to the next stage, having the tool/model dissolve the polys to give a seamless polygon layer across our city based on our network. Has anyone else done something like this? If so, would you be able to point me in the right direction? Appreciate the assistance!

Thank you for the quick response. I am currently dealing with 3 XAML files (App, MainPage, and a Custom control). I am initiating a global variable on the App.xaml, setting the global variable on the Custom Control xaml, and would like to use that global variable on the MainPage.xaml to change the color of my drawn graphics. App.xaml.cs public static class GlobalVariables
{
public static SolidColorBrush markerSymbolColor;
public static SolidColorBrush lineSymbolColor;
public static SolidColorBrush fillSymbolColor;
} ColorPickerControl.xaml.cs private void Color_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
Button btn = sender as Button;
this.SelectedColor = btn.Background as SolidColorBrush;
silverlightRedliningTools.App.GlobalVariables.markerSymbolColor = this.SelectedColor;
silverlightRedliningTools.App.GlobalVariables.lineSymbolColor = this.SelectedColor;
silverlightRedliningTools.App.GlobalVariables.fillSymbolColor = this.SelectedColor;
popUp.IsOpen = false;
} MainPage.xaml <Grid.Resources>
<esri:SimpleLineSymbol x:Key="DrawLineSymbol" Color="Green" Width="4" />
<esri:SimpleFillSymbol x:Key="DrawFillSymbol" Fill="#3300FF00" BorderBrush="Green" BorderThickness="2" />
<!--<esri:SimpleMarkerSymbol x:Key="DefaultMarkerSymbol" Color="Red" Size="12" Style="Circle" />-->
<esri:SimpleMarkerSymbol x:Key="DefaultMarkerSymbol" Color="{Binding Source={StaticResource markerSymbolColor}, Path=Color}" Size="12" Style="Circle" />
<esri:SimpleLineSymbol x:Key="DefaultLineSymbol" Color="Red" Width="4" />
<esri:SimpleFillSymbol x:Key="DefaultFillSymbol" Fill="#33FF0000" BorderBrush="Red" BorderThickness="2" />
</Grid.Resources> I have implemented the code that you supplied before and am getting the following error: The resource "markerSymbolColor" could not be resolved. I will continue to research and will update if anything changes on my end. Thanks again for the help!

I have incorporated a color picker that writes a color value to a global variable SolidColorBrush that I need to bind to a SimpleMarkerSymbol I am defining in my Grid.Resources code but I am having issues. <Grid.Resources>
<esri:SimpleLineSymbol x:Key="DrawLineSymbol" Color="Green" Width="4" />
<esri:SimpleFillSymbol x:Key="DrawFillSymbol" Fill="#3300FF00" BorderBrush="Green" BorderThickness="2" />
<!--<esri:SimpleMarkerSymbol x:Key="DefaultMarkerSymbol" Color="Red" Size="12" Style="Circle" />-->
<esri:SimpleMarkerSymbol x:Key="DefaultMarkerSymbol" Color="{Binding silverlightRedliningTools.App.GlobalVariables.markerSymbolColor.Color, Mode=OneWay}" Size="12" Style="Circle" />
<esri:SimpleLineSymbol x:Key="DefaultLineSymbol" Color="Red" Width="4" />
<esri:SimpleFillSymbol x:Key="DefaultFillSymbol" Fill="#33FF0000" BorderBrush="Red" BorderThickness="2" />
</Grid.Resources> Nothing I have tried is writing the correct color to the Symbol. Can anyone give me some direction to successfully bind to my grid resource? Appreciate the assistance!

You can set Editor to ContinuousMode=true and bind your "Change Map Location" button to CancelActive command. You can try it in this sample: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/silverlight/samples/start.htm#EditToolsAutoSave Thank you Jennifer! That did the trick. I was binding Select rather than CancelActive.

I am trying to incorporate the selection tools to my Silverlight project utilizing ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Editor. Here is the code I am using: <RadioButton Name="radNew" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="48,111,0,0" VerticalAlignment="Top" Content="New" Command="{Binding Select}" CommandParameter="New" Foreground="White"/>
<RadioButton Name="radAdd" Margin="104,111,0,0" VerticalAlignment="Top" Content="Add" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Width="46" Command="{Binding Select}" CommandParameter="Add" Foreground="White"/>
<RadioButton Name="radRemove" Margin="154,111,157,0" VerticalAlignment="Top" Content="Remove" Command="{Binding Select}" CommandParameter="Remove" Foreground="White"/>
<Button Margin="0,111,16,0" VerticalAlignment="Top" Content="Change map location" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Command="{Binding Select}" CommandParameter="CancelActive"/>
<Button Margin="48,138,16,0" VerticalAlignment="Top" Content="Clear Selection" RenderTransformOrigin="0,0.773" Command="{Binding ClearSelection}"/> What I would like to do us for the Button with Content="Change map location" when clicked, it will stop selecting so my users can pan, zoom, etc. Once they have moved to their new location, they can continue to select. Currently, after pressing the button, I begin selecting as if the CommandParameter="New". Has anyone else done this before? Appreciate the insight!

Have you seen any examples of people using this with their own graphics layer? I have implemented your solution to my Silverlight application but am currently unable to print my custom graphics. Thanks in advance!

Mike, Just wanted to make sure you've checked out the Image Blender tool too 🙂 As I'm working on a print task also. http://dotnetsketch.com/imageblender.aspx Good luck, Todd I did see this. Thanks. One of the key features I was interested in in the other option was the ability to have our users create their own templates as a MXD that can then be controlled based on login.

I have recently ported over Domenico's PrintClient code to print maps from my web applications. I am actually passing the variables from Silverlight through AJAX to call the service and it is working well so far. The question I have is regarding the graphics layer. I have seen in the test urls provided, the PrintClientService is capable of printing graphics, but I would like to pass the graphics via the graphicslayer I have created. Ideally, I would be able to select a polygon, print the map and see my selected poly. Has anyone else done this? Appreciate the feedback ahead of time!

Yes that is correct. I know the metadata elements are there. I was just trying to figure out how to display them on the details page. The ideal details page would provide all of that information. We would like to be able to display all the metadata that we populate. I spoke with ESRI support about this issue and they suggested that I move to Geoportal 10 and that would solve this issue. I have downloaded but have not installed as of yet. If I continue to have the same issue after install, I will repost to this thread. Thanks!

I have developed a fairly simple Javascript based website that shows fine on my development box. However, if the same site is accessed from another machine, the map disappears and I get the 'dojo is undefined error'. I moved the code to our server and I am getting similar results. I can see the page if I am logged on the server, but if I try and access from another machine, same error as above. Is there a configuration file that I am missing here? I really appreciate the help!

We currently in the process of publishing our metadata sourced in SDE and I would like to customize what is shown on the 'Details' page for each featureclass/table. I can see that all the information is there because when I click on the 'Metadata' link, I can see all the attributes nested within the XML tags. Am I missing something? Is there something I need to do to customize what is shown? I have found some support on creating a custom profile, but this appears to be only related to 'Creating' metadata rather than publishing. Any support would be greatly appreciated!

I have the identify task described here: http://resources.esri.com/help/9.3/arcgisserver/apis/silverlight/help/Identify_task.htm implemented in my solution. The problem I am having now is that I would like this window to be draggable because when expanded, it covers much of the underlying map. Has anyone else come across this? If so, what approach did you take to resolve the issue? I appreciate any feedback you can provide!
