02/2022, a pandemic has come and gone and no resolution XD. Any resolutions to this? @esri_uk For context this time, I started a process of Raster Mosaic (all data is local), after starting I realised I had what I needed else where, so tried cancelling, to find it the blue circle which went on for an hour. So I just killed the .exe.

I have a similar issue: I find it quite odd how (by 2022 - Version Pro 2.9.1) there still isn't an obvious way to essentially emulate an existing FC's table/attribute setup, in another (already created FC). I understand that you can apply when setting up a new FC, but I have al the FCs I want to apply the schema to already created. I used a Model Builder work around, but that was basically to re-create all the FCs just with a slightly different name. A nuisance and effort, so I would like to see this functionality (which I would have thought would be a fairly regularly required task) to be available. A simple method would be when in the Data Design> Fields view, an 'import from existing FC' tool.

Sept 2021 and still no folder alias renaming functionality. How hard is it to include? It was possible in ArcCatalog...

Worked a treat 😀- thanks for your time and effort David. Saved me an awful lot of manual renaming tonight.

Cheers Dan. This is really helpful as I am definitely not a coder and learning/applying only the very basics of Python to help me with the GIS aspect of my technical work. I used Rename tool for this with %Name% in the output name field originally, but that's only helpful for appending information and not (as my original Question suggestions) that helpful for removing, or slicing up filenames.

Thanks. Worked well. Didn't know indentation was required for it to run. Thought it was a presentation aspect. WRT to the last line of code, what function could replace this so that it was only renaming the original files, rather than making a copy of the data (which is useful sometimes) but I do not have much data storage capacity left. Making a copy might be tight. Would it be something like: arcpy.RenameRaster_management (ras, newrastername)

thank you. However I'm still getting an 'indentation' error: IndentationError Traceback (most recent call last)

yes apologies It is to try to remove the first 25 (took the split from some research on line, but likely not the most sensible function to use)

This should be a simple answer ... I'm trying to just remove the first 25 characters from a list (>90 in number) of Feature classes (raster datasets) within a .gdb. All the file names are named the same except for the last 9 digits (hence why I am trying to remove the first 25). I would then like to add some standard text to all the FCs (in the example "Hello") My attempt from other threads comprises the following (but has not worked so far): ------------------- import arcpy import os dir = r'C:\Users\X\Desktop\X\X.gdb' arcpy.env.workspace = dir for ras in arcpy.ListRasters ("*"): print (ras) #original raster name basename = ras.split("*")[:25] #strips the first 25 characters from original raster name newrastername = "Hello" + basename print (newrastername) arcpy.CopyRaster_management(ras, newrastername) #create a new raster with the new/updated name ---------------------- Error received: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
SyntaxError Traceback (most recent call last)
File C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Pro\bin\Python\envs\arcgispro-py3\Lib\ast.py, in parse:
Line 35: return compile(source, filename, mode, PyCF_ONLY_AST)
SyntaxError: Missing parentheses in call to 'print'. Did you mean print(ras #original raster name)? (<string>, line 😎

What would be the syntax if you just wanted to remove the first X amount of character from the current file name?

I had a similar issue. After reviewing the linked guide above (Shapefiles - ArcgIS Online Help). I found that I didn't have the projection file (.prj) in the shapefile (not sure why it wasn't created when I created the shapefile). Resolution: I used the 'define projection' geoprocessing tool and then it would upload fine. This was just my resolution - of course if you are missing any of the required files within the zipped .shp it will likely show the same error. The files to double check you have in the zipped .shp (extracted from the guide above) are "When you create a .zip file that contains the .shp, .shx, .dbf, and .prj files that comprise the shapefile, store your shapefile directly in the root (the central directory) of the .zip archive, not in directories within the archive. If your .zip file viewer shows path information, the path should be blank."

Any insights into this? I have the same problem: slpk model is hovering above ground/terrain in ArcPro. I cannot alter/change the elevation information of the .slpk file (right click>properties>elevation). Oddly in AGOL the model sits on the ground correctly (that is partly because absolute height can be edited and is at 0).

I agree with this; this is a very severe issue and should be solved. The number of people likely renaming folders unknowingly (thinking it is an alias) and affecting a whole business is large. It's 2021 and this hasn't yet been fixed.... In communication with ESRI custoemr care, they responded with this: " Just a recap of the call, you were needing assistance with renaming folder connection in ArcGIS Pro without having it reflected on the original folder path. In other words, you would like to have an alias for the folders in the folder connection for better reference. For your information, ArcGIS Pro does not support that ability at the moment. However, please be informed that there is an existing Enhancement related to the issue we discussed, and the details are as follows: Enhancement details: ENH-000123977 – Request to have an ability to create an alias. For favourites in ArcGIS Pro or/and have options to view the full path location. Current status: In Product Plan As this is currently in Esri's product plan, you can track the progress of the product development in the My Esri page: My Esri > My Organization > Support > Search for the ENH-000123977."
