Hector, you solution worked great! Thanks a lot. The only thing that tripped me up was the placement of the code. In my case, the .connect functions were not firing until I moved them out of initEditor(evt) function. I put the onBeforeApplyEdits hook just before the .addLayers calls, and it worked perfectly. Thanks again!

Newbie question: I have configured the sample application titled "Editor widget with simple toolbar". It is located at: Editor widget with simple toolbar | ArcGIS API for JavaScript When a new feature is added to the map, the attribute popup is displayed wherein I can enter values. I would like to pass a value directly into one of these attributes (it will be passed in via url variable). In the best case scenario, the user wouldn't even see the field. How can I update values for attributes? I have explored the attribute inspector, etc, but it's not clear to me how these work with the Editor Widget as in the sample code above. Thank you, Matt Goulet

The problem with using Description is that the subsequent <fields> cannot be displayed. This either/or situation makes it impossible to have one or more hyperlinks in the Description tag, then a table of fields. The limited set of HTML tags that can be used in Flex has no <table>-like element, so your tab stops will be 'jagged.' So many limitations in this Flex Viewer app. They should just hire Robert and let him develop the platform properly!

Has anyone gotten the zoom in/out functionality to work with Mansour's/Robert's constraint code? Panning seems fine (I'm using Viewer 3.2), but whenever I zoom in or out, the map goes to it's full extent and "shakes" up and down. Is the only solution to prevent zooming?

Steve, Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, it applies only to the map object, not its constituent layers. Here is my code; I apologize if it is very messy! <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Untitled 1</title> <link href="http://serverapi.arcgisonline.com/jsapi/arcgis/3.2/js/dojo/dijit/themes/claro/claro.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://serverapi.arcgisonline.com/jsapi/arcgis/3.2/js/esri/css/esri.css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://serverapi.arcgisonline.com/jsapi/arcgis/3.3/"></script> <!--<script type="text/javascript">var djConfig = { parseOnLoad:true };</script>--> <script type="text/javascript"> dojo.require("esri.map"); dojo.require("esri.tasks.query"); var map, lyrBuildings; var queryTask, query, initialExtent; var $dialogBox; var buildingSymbol; function init() { buildingSymbol = new esri.symbol.SimpleFillSymbol(esri.symbol.SimpleFillSymbol.STYLE_SOLID, new esri.symbol.SimpleLineSymbol(esri.symbol.SimpleLineSymbol.STYLE_SOLID, new dojo.Color([70,67,54,1]), 1),new dojo.Color([255,255,188,1])); esri.config.defaults.geometryService = new esri.tasks.GeometryService("http://tasks.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Geometry/GeometryServer"); initialExtent = new esri.geometry.Extent( -8074819,5218852,-8072249,5220094, new esri.SpatialReference({"wkid":3857})); map = new esri.Map("map", { basemap: "topo" ,extent: initialExtent ,displayGraphicsOnPan: false }); dojo.connect(map, "onPanStart", function(){ lyrBuildings.hide(); }); dojo.connect(map, "onPanEnd", function(){ lyrBuildings.show(); }); var queryTask = new esri.tasks.QueryTask("https://maps.admin.umass.edu/arcgis/rest/services/umaFacilities/umaFacilitiesOperationalLayers/FeatureServer/2" ); var query = new esri.tasks.Query(); query.where = "1=1"; query.returnGeometry = true; query.outFields = ["LONGNAME"]; queryTask.execute(query, addPointsToMap); map.infoWindow.resize(245,105); function addPointsToMap(featureSet) { var defaultRenderer = new esri.renderer.SimpleRenderer( new esri.symbol.SimpleMarkerSymbol().setColor(new dojo.Color([100,255,255,0.50]))); lyrBuildings.setRenderer(defaultRenderer); var features = featureSet.features; dojo.forEach(features,function(feature){ //map.graphics.add(feature); lyrBuildings.add(feature); }); //dojo.connect(lyrBuildings,"onClick",identifyFeatures); } lyrBuildings = new esri.layers.GraphicsLayer(); map.addLayer(lyrBuildings); } //End Init dojo.ready(init); </script> </head> <body class="claro" style="height: 100%; margin: 0;"> <div id="map" style="padding:0; margin: 0;"></div> </body> </html>

Panning seems to be fairly choppy when there are numerous objects on the graphics layer (in my case, building footprints). I decided that a workaround would be to hide the graphics layer while panning, and then restore visibility. The code, I think, should be fairly simple, but the following script does not work. I've tried setting the visibility, doing a redraw/refresh on the lyrBuildings layer. Nothing seems to bring those objects back except zooming in or out. What am I missing? dojo.connect(map, "onPanStart", function(){ lyrBuildings.hide(); }); dojo.connect(map, "onPanEnd", function(){ lyrBuildings.show(); });

Is it me, or have the recent changes to ESRI's resources web pages become way more difficult to use? Personally, I strongly prefer the previous look/feel and have found this new layout and design to be very non-user friendly. If enough people respond in agreement, perhaps we may implore ESRI to walk back these new designs. Please reply if you agree.

Has anyone come up with a Sharpeoint-only solution to show thumbnail images (or hyperlinks) on the popup? This functionality would be extremely (if not critically) important. Thanks.

When creating an ArcGIS Location column in Sharepoint 2010 (we are using 2.1.1), the "Location Settings" Silverlight control appears and allows me to select X/Y fields. When I choose the Address Fields tab, the Silverlight control disappears completely. If I choose a different field type and then re-select ArcGIS Location field, it appears again, but the same behavior occurs when I select the "Address Fields" tab. The third tab, Map Options, works fine. Our locator service is SSL, as is our Sharepoint 2010 environment. Any suggestions? Thank you. Matt Amherst, MA
