Jeff, Thanks very much for responding to this. Good to hear it was such a simple problem that led to the disaster layers displaying. I look forward to hosting some of my own services and including them in my application using this template. Judging by those links to the twitter developer forum, it doesn't look like the issues related to querying and displaying geolocated tweets will be resolved soon. Even if they do resolve the current issues, the forum posts from twitter employees suggest that future changes may cause new problems. The more unreliable standard social media feeds appear, the more appealing the VGI functionality becomes an appealing way for users to contribute content. This train of though leads me to one more question if you don't mind... Would it be possible for the VGI pop-up windows displaying links to photos or videos or websites to instead display the content directly within the pop-up window? My knowledge related to this is limited, but it seems feasible. I think the functionality of the VGI pop-ups to display media content directly, instead of linking to a separate browser tab, would provide an ideal means for users to easily and effectively share content, and ultimately help web mapping applications based on the PIM achieve their objective. Thanks once again for your work on this. Cheers McCain

I am working on a project using the public information map template. Given some of the issues with the social media APIs (twitter API appears to be changing often and causing problems for the template, geolocating youtube videos may or may not be possible at this point due to bugs), I am looking forward to having the VGI component as a simple, sturdy fallback. Right now that appears valuable to my ongoing work with this template. Thanks for all your hard work with the PIM template, it is making my life so much easier these days. McCain

Thanks for the responses. This template has really helped jump-start a project I am beginning to work on and I appreciate all the hard work that goes into it. I look forward to incorporating tweets into my final application. I have one more question about the Public Information Map template currently available from arcgis.com. Can anyone else view the layers? Maybe it is because there haven't been any earthquakes, wildfires, eruptions or cyclones recently, but I can't get anything to display. Thanks again for your help on this issue. It is much appreciated. -McCain

Is anybody else having a problem viewing tweets on the Public Information Map template? (http://arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=53ae8b9591b0470885f820ea47cc9f45) I have tried a number of queries using different key words, dates and locations. The icon keeps spinning next to the search button, but no twitter icons appear on the map. Jeff_Archers comment on the application info page (link above) suggests changing the keywords and page count for Twitter in config.js. I've tried that and the map still does not display any geolocated tweets. I've also made sure to download the latest version of the application so I have the most recent twitter.js. The US Weather and Twitter Map displays a number of twitter icons when I query the same hashtags. (http://arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=822d53c2a33e47029086bcddb9fc62ae) Any help with this would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance. McCain

Thanks for replying. I promoted your suggestion on the link you sent. 50 million geolocated photos is vey impressive and I agree would be an incredible resource for ArcGIS. Do you, or does anyone else reading, think that including the panaramio feed in an ESRI web mapping application would be possible with custom programming? The organization for which I work would be willing to hire someone to build this kind of functionality for us if it is.

Can anyone successfully add the Panoramio KML feed as an operational layer to their ArcGIS Viewer for Flex? I have tried using the following code: <layer label="Panaramio" type="kml" visible="false" url="http://www.panoramio.com/kml"/> When I load the viewer, I don't get any error messages and the layer is available under my More... dropdown menu, but when I check the box to turn it on nothing happens. Any help on this issue would be much appreciated. Thanks McCain

I have just started working with the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex and would greatly appreciate some help with an issue I am having. I am not sure of the terminology, but here goes. I found a basemap/map server for New Zealand topo maps at this address: http://services.arcgisonline.co.nz/ArcGIS/rest/services/LINZ/geotiffs/MapServer I added this service to my main config file using the following code: <basemaps> <layer label="Topo" type="tiled" visible="true" url="http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/USA_Topo_Maps/MapServer"/> <layer label="NZ Topo" type="tiled" visible="false" url="http://services.arcgisonline.co.nz/ArcGIS/rest/services/LINZ/geotiffs/MapServer"/> <layer label="Aerial" type="tiled" visible="false" url="http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Imagery/MapServer"/> <layer label="Streets" type="tiled" visible="false" url="http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Street_Map/MapServer"/> </basemaps> When I select the NZ Topo basemap from my map switcher, the map is entirely gray. I would really appreciate any help fixing this issue. Thanks McCain

Thanks for your help. I understand the sharing of .nmf files. That is a workable solution for now. The problem, as I see it, is that if you are trying to make your presentation from ArcGIS Explorer Desktop accessible and easy-to-use by large groups of people, including those with zero GIS experience, then requiring them to download the program and the file, open the file, and open the presentation is going to present problems. The ideal solution would be a presentation accessible to anyone via a web address. Maybe this is an unrealistic request, but do you think it is possible with custom development/coding and ArcGIS Server? An example would be coding a pop-up capable of displaying html and serving these data using ArcGIS Server with a custom UI. Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

Is there any way to publish a ArcGIS Explorer Desktop Presentation to a web address? This can be easily accomplished using ArcGIS Explorer Online, but unfortunately that program doesn't display the same types of data. Would something like ArcGIS Server be able to do accomplish this? Any help would be much appreciated.
