Hello, I am attempting to make a map with graduated symbols, representing data that I have joined with city locations in my state. I end up going to the symbology tab, and when I select my data, it doesn't seem to recognize my data. The data definitely joined correctly, because I can see it in the table. However, if I change the symbols to represent population instead of my joined values, it does seem to work correctly. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The "snapping" tool seems to only be attached to the editor tool and I want to be able to label some important points on my shapefile.

Hello all, I'm trying to search for sites that are conducive to some of our land use objectives. I've been tasked with finding pastures (orange raster) that are on BOTH sides of the river (in blue). I know there's ways to extract areas that intersect the river, but I don't know how to make it so it queries locations that have it on both sides. Any suggestions?

I figured it out. My source point was made from a larger dataset, using the "make layer from selected features" function. Somewhere along the line, the data became corrupt and it was no longer honoring my selection where it should have been. Resulting in an erroneous source point, that was nowhere near my desired one. Thanks for assisting me through it Dan!

Here's what I'm seeing. The first entry, should be approximately 30 miles away, and as you can see, it ends up giving me 164.66 meters away from the source point. I'm completely confused by it. Note that "Sioux Falls" is the source point, and is found in the middle of the big pink shape file.

Whenever I run the analysis, it always spits it out in meters, and then I calculate a new field, using the equation. I don't generate the near analysis automatically into miles. Unless I misunderstood what you're advising. Even with it spitting the results out in meters, lakes that should be 29 miles away are referenced as less than one, and of course vise versa for the ones that should actually be close by.

Everything is in the same coordinate system (NAD_1983_UTM_Zone_14N) and in meters.

I have a dataset with shape files (lakes), associated near a point (city) that I want to run through the near tool, to organize them by distance from the city. I run the near tool, and for whatever reason, the lakes that are closest to my point file are shown to being the furthest away. After converting the meters to miles, one of them should be it's less than a mile from the point, but it's labeled at being 29 miles away. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what's going wrong here? They're all in the same projection.

Hello all, I'm working on a GIS that highlights different lakes in my region. The lakes are already available as shapefiles, and the attribute tables include categories for lake name, county, and size. I need to select certain lakes out of the list, and the easiest way to do that is to sort by county, alphabetically, and then select the lakes from the list individually. However, when I sort the list by county, the lake names are obviously not alphabetical within each county. If I was to do this in Excel, I could sort anything with multiple levels of categories. I tried to export the data to excel, sort via that method, add a "sorting # ID" to it and then do a join to the shapefile but for some reason, my self-made ID numbers don't append to the table? Does anyone have any suggestions how to fix this or an easier way to go about it? Thanks
