Hi Luke, I haven't heard back, but I also never dove back into this topic. Maybe it's implemented meanwhile, it's been 5 years. 😉 Cheers, matt matthias buehler | founder & CTO | msc arch eth zurich vrbn studios AG | winterthurerstrasse 53 | 8610 uster | switzerland +41 78 930 04 07 | matthias.buehler@vrbn.io | @vrbnio @mattb3d | www.vrbn.io official ESRI partner | channel sponsor of MH Tutorials on youtube | member of the visual effects society | artstation

Hi, yes, you can do this with the UV split. One side has negative values in v-coords, so you can use the absolute of that to cut off that part. On the other side, you can cut by the distance of the (max v) - floor(max v) ((or very similar)). Check the vmin, vmax functions. Cheers, matt matthias buehler | founder & CTO | msc arch eth zurich

Hi there, Shapes generated via CGA cannot sample other values on a per-leaf basis. Means you'll get one initial attribute that will be constant for all the shape (and it's successor shapes you create via CGA. Cheers, matt matthias buehler | founder & CTO | msc arch eth zurich

Hi, CityEngine does not support 25x25k textures. It works different as a GIS system that only loads what is visible for the screen space. In CityEngine, this entire (huge!) file has to be loaded onto your graphics card which certainly has not enough memory. This is a precaution measure of CityEngine. Please reduce the file to 6000x6000 pixels (cells), then it should work, otherwise go even lower (4000x4000). Use this lower resolution as a temporary file to work with in CityEngine and in the end, in your target application, go back to the full resolution (if it is supported there). Hope this helps. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ matthias buehler || ceo & co-founder || msc. arch. eth zurich ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ vrbn AG – official esri partner || www.vrbn.io || winterthurerstrasse 53 || 8610 uster || switzerland +41 78 930 04 07 || matthias.buehler@vrbn.io || @vrbnio @mattb3d

Hi, use alignScopeToGeometry() with the according edge index. e.g. alignScopeToGeometry(yUp, 0, i) 0 indicates the first polygon of the shape. Typically, a shape only has one polygon, but also can have multiple ... i indicates the edge of interest. After this, scope x is oriented along the edge, therefore splitting in z will be perpendicular (assuming you work with flat shapes). Hi Jesse, There are CityEngine service providers that can help with this bridge.. Demo content as this rule of the week is usually just supposed to give inspirations of what can be done with CityEngine. I agree with you that it would be nice to have lots and lots of rules available, but in reality, each project is slightly different so that you often need code adaptions for each project. This makes it so hard to develop solid 'general purpose' rules. And of course: Planners are supposed to plan and not program. This is why we for example developed a CityEngine (CGA) based planning tool, where you don't need any programming. I know personally (I have worked in the CityEngine development team for almost 5 years) that the developers and content teams are very aware of some of the issues you mention - and they're working very hard on releasing more and more planning specific features. Rome was not built in a day .. Hi Nicholas You have a given terrain. When you select the terrain layer, in the inspector you can see the extent: Offset X / Z and Scale X / Z. What may be a bit confusing is that CityEngine works yUp internally (Y = direction of gravity, elevation). Also, make sure that the little pivot icon has the black dot in one of the corners, not in the middle. It should be by default. You find this icon in the terrain layer at the top. Looks a bit like this, about 16x16 pixels big: [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] So just grab those 4 values of your terrain and paste them in the rule file (there are some values there, but they don't work for you. Let me know if this helps. matt ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ matthias buehler || ceo & co-founder || msc. arch. eth zurich ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ vrbn AG – official esri partner || www.vrbn.io || winterthurerstrasse 53 || 8610 uster || switzerland +41 78 930 04 07 || matthias.buehler@vrbn.io || @vrbnio @mattb3d

Hi, I assume you mean changing the image visualization based on the values? CE can't do that. I recomment to use a default RGB jpg that you have exported from GIS. If you use geotif as format, I'd recommend 8 bit per channel. Hi .. it will work .. 😉 the workflow has nothing to do with the terrain per se. you just use a georeferenced terrain to get the proper extent values for a heat map, which gets projected onto the models via CGA. CGA does not know georeferencing, therefore you have to 'feed' that to CGA. the above workflow does that. the only stipulation in this workflow is that the texture shows the same geographic extent as the terrain - which means the terrain you use to get the values should contain all buildings you wanna texture. cheers! matt ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ matthias buehler || ceo & co-founder || msc. arch. eth zurich ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ vrbn AG – official esri partner || www.vrbn.io || winterthurerstrasse 53 || 8610 uster || switzerland +41 78 930 04 07 || matthias.buehler@vrbn.io || @vrbnio @mattb3d

Hi Nicholas, This is how: - you find the terrain extent in the inspector (select the terrain layer), edit the values in the code below. - your heat map needs exactly the same extent as the satellite picture with this method. - this code runs metric, maybe some things need to be adapted for feet projections. CODE: **************************************************** terrainExtentData(data) = case data == "SX" : 15000 case data == "SZ" : 15000 case data == "OX" : 3224458.982 case data == "OZ" : -5016876.625 else : 1 ProjectGeorefImage --> setupProjection(0,world.xz, terrainExtentData("SX"), -terrainExtentData("SZ"), terrainExtentData("OX"), terrainExtentData("OZ") ) projectUV(0) texture("maps/myMap.jpg") ***************************************************** Cheers! matt ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ matthias buehler || ceo & co-founder || msc. arch. eth zurich ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ vrbn AG – official esri partner || www.vrbn.io || winterthurerstrasse 53 || 8610 uster || switzerland +41 78 930 04 07 || matthias.buehler@vrbn.io || @vrbnio @mattb3d

Hi, Yes, you can use CityEngine models in CAVE. You have to go via FXB or Collada files. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ matthias buehler || ceo & co-founder || msc. arch. eth zurich ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ vrbn AG – official esri partner || www.vrbn.io || winterthurerstrasse 53 || 8610 uster || switzerland +41 78 930 04 07 || matthias.buehler@vrbn.io || @vrbnio @mattb3d
