Is it because the Package Data process creates a map cache and if the project contains a map cache and nothing else and there are no changes to the layer's settings at the project creation stage, then there is no reason to re-create the cache, because it exists already? If this is the case, then why do I still not get the Package Data option available to be if I make changes to the layer (such as field visibility, removing tasks from project etc). Still confused.

Why is the Package Data option in Mobile Project Center greyed out? I am running ArcGIS for Mobile 3.0 with an operational layer from mobile cache added to the project. This cache only has one layer which is set to "provides read-only reference information". This map cache was created with ArcGIS for Desktop 10.0. Is there a compatibility issue between desktop 10.0 and AGM3.0? Documentation suggests that they are compatible which leads me to believe I am doing something else incorrectly. Did you manage to get this working? Actually, I'm more interested in your code to get the nearest feature from a point layer to my current location. Are you able to provide a code sample?

The navigation toolbar is the StreetMap applet - its not part of the standard toolbars. That's why it's not removed via standard toolbar management processes. It's not a bug. The easiest way to remove the navigation toolbar is to go to the applets folder C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcPad10.0\Applets and remove all the files (except any of your own that you may have put in there.) They are all prefixed with "sm" so easy to identify. Matt

I'm wondering if this is because some of the layers in your mxd are sourced from the same feature class. I was having the same problems - large mxd with 20+ layers and the Get data for ArcPad (axf readonly) was crashing ArcMap. I tried axf editable - crash. I then tried export to shp - diddn't crash but got errors saying that one of the layers didn't export because it shared the same source data as a previous layer in the map. I then created a new mxd with only two layers (lyr files) in it with both being sourced from the same feature class (displays different data via Definition Query) and guess what? CRASH. I would be interested to know, if you go back and have a look at the source of each of the layes in your mxd if any are the same. I'm not sure how to get around this. ANY help would be appreciated. Incidentally, this is in ArcPad 10.01. When I installed 10.02 hoping this issue would be sorted, it crashed on opening. Every time. I had to roll back to 10.01.

Did you successfully deploy a mobile app to a device? If so, which location on the device did you copy the files to (assuming you did it with ActiveSync) and which files did you copy over? Keen to hear any success stories from people using ArcGIS Mobile v10 with ArcGIS desktop.
