Previously in ArcMap, any layer that had a transparency on export would take that layer and any layers below it and convert into one raster. Any layers above that transparent layer would then stay as vector information if relevant, and so the title block too. In Pro, I have noticed that various layers on top of one another is trying to replicate those layers as true transparency individual layers in the PDF but causes problems especially of loading time of the PDF. There is the option of export as image which does replicate what ArcMap previously did, however, this even converts the title block and everything else as a raster. Are we able to have an additional setting to decide how it treats the transparent layers, so giving the option of what ArcMap does, are can it just do what ArcMap did previously as there were no problems with this.

When ArcGIS Pro steps into the realm of 3DsMAX and similar, then lets discuss graphic cards....................when we only want to add a field, lets carry on discussing the basic performance of the program as the problem.

Thanks Dan, ArcGIS Administrator calls it borrowing, so still using that wording to describe the task. But yes, that's what I did otherwise I wouldn't have been able to use ArcGIS Pro as it would be asking to terminate the program without a license.

I'd certainly like to be challenging the rep on that! Previously I've borrowed a license, completely cut off any internet connection and still it is lagging behind on the simplest of processes.

Can someone from ESRI's technical support answer these posts? I'd like to highlight that in terms of ArcGIS Pro, I am really impressed with how it processes ground datasets and how quick other datasets are then draped onto the model. But when it's taken me 13mins to do Table X and Y to Point, where as in ArcMap, it would process this within seconds, then how does the software give us any time saving or any confidence going forward in completely switching from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro. Laptop specifications / performance, or even servers, should be completely taken off the discussion in terms of assessing ArcGIS Pro as a viable product. It simply cannot cope with the simple operations which on a day to day usage, take more time and less efficiency than if we were doing everything back in ArcMap.

Thanks for confirming that Kory. So, I guess that doesn't explain why within one project that maps have failed to work now, when they worked a few months ago. As well as happening to other colleagues of mine. Any advice?

Hi Marisa I think the project files which have caused the problem were originally made in 2.2 or perhaps 2.3. I have recently upgraded to 2.4, I'm assuming that it shouldn't be a problem opening a project made in previous versions to a newer version? Mat

I have quite a few different ArcGIS Pro project files that contain different sets of data, maps and layouts. On opening certain project files, I then receive the "Failed to open map view" message and it deletes the map from the project. Any idea why this happens? It also occurs to my colleague on certain project files, but then those work for me.

Previously in ArcMap when it came to exporting as PDF, if there was a layer with transparency, ArcMap would then rasterize all layers below that and combine into a single image within the PDF. Then all other layers above that would come through as text/vector, in particular the title block/layout. Within Pro, there is only the option to rasterize the whole drawing including title block/layout, so the text is rasterized, or you then have multiple layers of transparencies with the PDF, which for some, including myself, is not relevant to have that way. Can you build back in an option in Pro, where layers under a layer with transparency are combined into a single image and all text/vector above remains as text/vector.
