Yes! You are dead right, Dann! I needed to create a new feature class! I am on my way. Everything looks good now. Can't thank you enough for your patience and willingness to help. Have a super evening.

I should have mentioned that there is not a pre-existing roads layer. I am trying to digitize roads from scratch using a rough sketch. So l am not editing a pre-existing network. The assignment requires me to roughly show where a road network might be based on gaps between land parcels on another layer. I am surprised that it's so tricky. I must be missing something. When l did a similar exercise before, the Line construction tool was provided. I think the purpose of this assignment is for me to learn how to set up the Construction Tool box for digitizing simple features like roads. Thanks for trying to help but l feel like you may be over thinking this one Dann.

I am trying to create a new roads layer with the same road type. A simple line will do. No real need for polylines. Toolbox shows polygon, circle, ellipse, freehand, auto-complete, etc. It should take about 15 minutes to do! With the right tool.

My assignment is to digitize a road network for a new community based on a sketch. However, there is not a road/line construction tool in my Construction Toolbox. How do I go about adding this tool? There are other tools in the box but not the line tool. Is there an alternative tool for constructing line features such as roads?

Thanks again Dan. I am entirely unfamiliar with arc catalogue so I would not know where to start. Anyway, thanks to all that tried to help.

Thanks, Dan. I am working on a class project in ARCMAP and the instructions say I should be able to 'find' my scratch.gdb. This is the very first time I am encountering the concept of a scratch.gdb in this class so it's not as if I have had to previously set it up and it's now lost. My assumption is that it should be on the zip file but there is results.gdb and source.gdb on the file, NOT scratch.gdb. In the previous lesson, I had to find my source.gdb and it was on the zip file. See instructions below:1.7 "Find your scratch geodatabase. ArcGIS will open a geodatabase picker (notice the Show of type option at the bottom). If you've been strictly following this lab, then it's going to try showing you the contents of the source geodatabase since we used that recently. Instead, navigate up one folder to your data folder (recall the up one folder arrow if you don't know how). 1. Click on your scratch geodatabase (scratch.gdb). Don't double click to open it though - just a single click. 2. Then click Add. 3. Click OK out of the Map Document Properties dialog (not shown). ArcGIS will now put working products in that scratch geodatabase where we can find them later.

I think I might have been getting a little desperate for answers and i attempted to rephrase the question. I replied to Jayant's post to say that it was not working for me. My apologies for any inconveniences and thanks for your help.

Thanks Jayant. I tried your suggestion but I still cannot see this database. I am new to this so maybe it's hiding in plain sight.

Working on assignment that requires me to set up a scratch.gdb. Cannot find this gdb file on the zip file provided. New to GIS and lost. Tried to set up scratch workspace from Geo-processing menu without success. Second time around asking the same question.

New to GIS and learning online with Coursera. I am not able to find my scratch.gdb. I downloaded the zip file and all and I don't see it in any of the files there. Only results.gdb and source.gdb.

Thanks guys but while I was struggling with this earlier this week I established the wrong default data base. I am not sure what it takes to change to the correct one. Thanks for your patience.

I am getting stuck when trying to set up a Folder Connection to access data. I cannot find the "source.gdb" that I am expecting. After selecting the appropriate folder, and clicking Connect to Folder, I am failing to navigate to the required "Introduction to ARCMAP" file so I can start practicing with the app.
