Anybody else out there finding opening popups on points on mobile devices a bit tricky? There is the magnifying glass, and I am experimenting with a stylus, but even in the office getting on the point can be a challenge. For one project these guys are really in the field locating vaults in the ground, poking the point just right a couple of time is a bit frustrating. While coding in Flex I recall that you could define a buffer, a hit area, a target, within which you could activate the popup. Could that be something that could be implemented in AGO?

In a map server I have made I have point and polyline data. I symbolized them in ArcMap planning to use that symbology. For the points I made a marker symbol with two 'layers' a character marker symbol and a simple marker symbol. The Symbol for the line is made the same way. When I view the map server everything looks fine. But I want to be able to create popups. So I bring each map server layer seperately and that is when things get goofy. The points are fine, it is the lines that are drawing oddly. None of the lines draws with the character symbol. One set of lines draws black when is supposed to be green, but other green lines draw as green. http://bit.ly/11muxIx

Kelly, That worked for me! This will be very helpful. I have a lot of maps that need the ability to search.

I concur. I made a test map a couple of days ago . The search worked, but no highlighting the selected feature and no zooming to the selected feature. The data was a feature service of polygon data. Thanks. Lisa

In ArcMap I am symbolizing a polygon feature class. There are 1126 features and I am giving each one a unique color using a color ramp. I am publishing the feature class a both a map service and a feature service, I need to have popups. When I go and look at the service in the services directory, the service is visible in the map service but not the feature service. If I symbolize the polygons with a single symbol the layer is visible in the feature service. In the process of trying to find out what was going on I added another feature class to the map, below the one I need, and published map and feature services. When I open the feature service only the second layer (1) is listed, the first layer (0) is not. If I try to force the issue by typing in the 0 in the URL, I get an error: "An unexpected error occurred processing the request.". I really do need to have individual colors for each of the 1126 polygons. I guess as a workaround I can publish a feature service symbolized as no fill so I can make the popups, and just a map service that has the symbology that I need. That worked. I guess I would still like to know why that symbology does not work with a feature service. Lisa Shertz

I have found it necessary it edit a Feature Class in SDE after I have published it and added it to a map on AGO. With brilliant lack of planning I failed to register the data as versioned. When I try to register the FC or delete it to make a new one, I am informed that there is a lock on the table. I stop the service on Server, thinking that that will release the lock; it does not, even after clearing the cache. It is only after I remove the service from the AGO map, that I can make schema changes to the feature class. This is a bit awkward. This is a very complicated map with lots of layers, and popups. It is also a map about a highly controversial and volatile topic. The people that I am working with are very uptight that I cannot make almost instant changes; I have to completely rebuild the FC and the service. I don't mind stopping the service, that makes sense, but how can AGO still have a lock on the FC if the service is stopped? Is there something I have missed? I could of course plan better and register the data, but most of the time this isn't necessary. Is there a way to turn off the connection from AGO or stop the AGO map while I make changes? I also forgot to mention, when I go to config the app I am getting a 404 error. Any ideas? Thanks. Lisa Shertz

Mike, ...the SHAPE field is hidden. Thanks, I usually catch that one. ...individual layers, rather than the entire map service? I brought in each layer separately because I wanted to be able to control the symbology, transparency, and visibility for each layer. It seemed easier through ArcGISOnline rather than re-publishing for every tweak to the map. Also I need to give the end user the ability to turn on and off each of the layers. That is the primary feature of this map, to see different configurations of the layers. ...a bug that we'll need to address. That is interesting, because I haven't changed this application since I first made it at the end of December. I wasn't getting any errors then. Thanks for the info. Lisa Shertz

Yesterday I opened a web mapping application that I had made back in December. It had worked perfectly then. I am now getting an error message when I open the application. Actually I get a different messages when I open it in Chrome and when I open it in IE8. Chrome: Unable to create map: Cannot call method 'toRgba' of null IE8: Unable to create map: "'color' is null or not an object" I then click the OK button and the map opens. I am using the Chrome with legend template and the legend is incomplete. It shows the one line layer, three of the polygon layers and none of the point layers. When I go to turn layers on and off it will draw all layers but one, zoning. When I open the web map all visible layers are shown in the legend. The zoning layer does not draw here either. All the map layers are from a map service from ArcGIS Server. There are no raster layers. I re-published the service this morning. I made a new web mapping application this morning and it had the same behaviors. I adm working on an application that uses both the attribute inspector and the attachment inspector. I had it working at it's most basic level (editing an attribute, viewing an attachment), but had to put it aside two weeks ago. I opened it up today and it is doing something very wierd. When I click on a point the attribute information flashes very quickly, then the attribute area goes blank. I have no idea what is going on. https://secure.ci.longmont.co.us/arcgis/Graffiti/graffiti3.html I would appreciate any help with this issue. Lisa Shertz GIS Analyst City of Longmont, Colorado

I have a largis-ish number (~2000) of tiles that I am putting into a mosaic dataset. They are currently in a different coordinate system than the rest of the data in our database. What is the best method of reprojection? I know when you create the mosaic dataset you define a projection. Do I define this as the current projection or the projection that I want them to be in? Is that reprojecting the tiles? Is this causing the tiles to reproject as the end user calls them? I want the imagery to draw as quickly as possible for both desktop clients and internet applications. Lisa Shertz GIS Analyst City of Longmont
