I have a lengthy raster calculator expression I'm running in a python script tool that keep throwing the following error: RuntimeError: Failed to apply Raster Function: 'RasterCalculator' (The parameter is incorrect. Bind failed in function 'Raster Calculator Function' [Raster Calculator Function].) I narrowed it down to the Power() function. The calculation in the script works fine if I remove it I simplified everything down to troubleshoot: If I run the expression Power("x", 2) in the raster calculator everything works as advertised If I run the script y = RasterCalculator([x], ["x"], "Power(x, 2)") I get the above error. (If I change Power() to another function like Sin(x) the script will run without error) Is this a bug or am I just missing something simple?

Seems this functionality was removed completely in ArcGIS Pro for layouts, whereas in ArcMap we at least had the option of purchasing the PLTS extension. I too vote for this to be added in Pro.

Thanks Brett. That's very helpful. I may actually use that workaround instead of removing the relevant condition on the details questions. I did create an esri idea just in case anyone else would like the same functionality added. https://community.esri.com/ideas/18089

Within a grid, create an appearance or other option that will force a relevant question to take up a space in the grid, regardless of whether the dependent question has been answered so that it satisfies the relevant condition. I came across this problem while creating the survey in the image. I had a number of questions where if the user answered "Action Needed" I wanted them to explain it in the relevant details question. However, because of the grid behavior the questions all fit side by side, and if you answered "Action Needed" in column 2, it would bump the relevant details question to column 1 on the next row. The only options were to always have the details question available or use this great workaround provided by Brett Stokes: https://community.esri.com/groups/survey123/blog/2019/11/20/survey123-tricks-of-the-trade-groups-grids-and-pages?commentID=83224&et=blogs.comment.created#comment-83224

Great post! Thanks so much. I have one question. The article says that non-relevant questions will still take up a blank space in the grid, but mine are not. Is this a change that was made? Is there a setting you can enter to force them to take up a space? I have a 2 width grid with a list of select one questions where if they answer "Action Needed" I want them to explain it to the right of the question. However the relevant question space is not reserved and all the questions are side by side. So if they answer "Action Needed" in column 2 the details question gets sent over to column 1 on the next line.

Thanks Wayne, I think I see what you're trying to do there. I gave it a go but it still didn't solve the problem of modelbuilder not recognizing the workspace as a location for an inline variable. I noticed your testlyr pointed to your default gdb. when I changed it to include the workspace as an inline variable %Workspace%\testlyr (but using my own layer ans workspace of course) the same error came up, that the feature does not exist. It seems like arc, instead of just running the model and using the currently iterated workspace to find the layer, is getting hung up in the validation on the fact that since it hasn't iterated to a workspace yet then the features within that workspace must not exist. Is there a way, in your python script, to have it output the workspace to a variable representing the gdb within the folder that the iterator is using (in the model I suppose it would represent the first gdb, but then would change to match whatever gdb is being iterated)? That way arc can "see" a gdb and believe that the features exist? Either that or if there's a way to tell it to skip the validation and say "Yes, I know you can't see the features yet, but once the iterator defines the workspace they'll be there, so just start running." Thanks for your help on this. Edit: I also tried using parse path for the inline, to no success.

In essence what I'm trying to do is an erase using 21 feature classes that must be erased in a specific order. That order can change, meaning all 30 zones have to be run again, which is why I'm trying place it in a model where I can just rearrange the order and then hit go. I've attached a quick example to show what works and what doesn't along with the error I get. In both models the paths for the FCs are: %Workspace%\FC1 %Workspace%\FC2 %Workspace%\FC3 In the works.jpg I simply placed the gdb in the model and renamed it "Workspace" In does not work.jpg I placed the workspace iterator in the model, using the folder the gdb is in, and I get the error that the files do not exist.

Wouldn't you use %name% as the in-line variable? Tried that as well, same error

I have 30 gdbs with identically named features in different geographic zones. I'm trying to run the same tasks on each by iterating through each gdb in a folder. However, when I try to use the %Workspace% inline variable in the model it gives me an error that the FC does not exist when I try to run it. If I pull the iterator out and replace it with a single gdb from the folder and name it "Workspace" the model runs just fine. Attached is a trimmed down version of the model with just the first process being run, where the pathname for Wilderness = %Workspace%\Wilderness Hopefully there's something simple I'm just missing because I haven't used this before. Thanks

Just installed ArcGIS 10 Desktop. Did I miss it or are we still not able to make our legend backgrouds or any graphics transparent? I thought this was a much overdue function that would be applied to 10. This was all I could find: Ask A Cartographer Make transparent graphic box to place behind legend items July 20 2010 | 0 comments Categories: Map Elements I would like to add a transparent box behind my legend features, so that I can still see underlying map features. Apart from making a feature layer that can be set to transparent, how else can this effect be achieved using a graphic feature. My only other alternative is to complete the legend outside of Desktop using a graphics program (eg. Photoshop, Corel, etc.). I have access to ArcInfo 9.3 / 9.3.1 / 10. Mapping Center Answer: You cannot apply transparency to graphic elements in ArcMap, but you can to geographic features. As you surmised, one way to do what you want to do is to draw a graphic rectangle for the area that you want to be transparent, then right click the data frame and select the option to Convert Graphics to Features. Note that you have to be in Data View to do this. Then you can apply the color and transparency you want to the feature. But you can do all of this in ArcMap and not have to use a graphics program. Is this for real? That is their solution? What if I need to change the scale of the map? So they spent a bunch of time working on making the GUI different and didn't build in this functionality? Must be taking product tips from Apple.
