We have not, thank you for making me aware of this option! However, I would love to see a more out of the box approach from Esri, instead of having to buy another product. Ideally, we would like to see the possibility to add an application to Portal and save the credentials, as we do now with REST services registered on the platforms.

We have the following challenge: we set up an ArcGIS Online to ArcGIS Online collaboration between our company and a municipality. The municipality does not have Portal. We already have one Portal to ArcGIS Online collaboration, and this one is between our platforms. There is a limitation to ONE Portal to ArcGIS Online collab All of our users are in Portal, not ArcGIS Online. The question is how our users in Portal are going to get access to an application shared by the municipality to our ArcGIS Online collaboration? Is there a way to register an application in Portal with user credentials? Hope somebody has some suggestions!

We have the following case: Esri recommends creating maps using subtype group layers to view utility network data in order to optimize performance for Utility Network layers in ArcGIS Pro: https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-utility-network-blog/best-practices-for-working-with-utility-network/ba-p/1140925 Unfortunately, symbology scale dependencies will dynamically hide layers from the contents pane when layers are outside of the set display range (see example below). As each subtype (asset group) almost always represents several asset types, and as these asset types often represent features in different voltage levels (high / medium / low) standard symbology setting is used to set different scales for the different asset types. MV represents medium voltage asset types and LV represents low voltage asset types in the above example. Hence, the map shows e.g. medium voltage at scales up to 1:50.000, whereas low voltage typically is not added before zoomed in beneath 1:3.000. When an asset type due to the forementioned symbology settings on scale is not shown in the map, it is also not shown in the table of contents. Let’s say the map in zoomed to 1:30.000 (hence hiding low voltage asset types) and the user that want to search e.g. all low voltage potential transformers of a given type, they will have no chance of knowing – unless understanding the underlying data model in details – for which subtype group layer to open the table and set up the Select by Attributes query. If the symbol was removed from the map but kept in the table of contents, the user would be helped much better. ---- I was in touch with Esri support and they confirmed that the behavior with layers greyed out in the map contents pane is expected behavior when scale dependencies are configured through the layer's symbology. They have suggested a workaround: “In beyond” and “out beyond” approach to include asset type. Start with a blank map. Add your data as a Subtype Group Layer. From the contents pane, select the subtype layer > right click > symbology > primary symbology > from dropdown set to "unique values" > Change 'Field 1' = "asset type". (Repeat for other layers). (optional) Remove any unwanted subtype layers from Contents pane. Select asset type layer from Contents pane. Set “In beyond” and “out beyond” visibility range. Test Zoom in/out. In conclusion, our suggestion for Esri is to have the option to lock layers in the contents pane while zooming in and out, no matter which scale range was set.

Today, if a user wants to trace a network, they have to have an UN extension assigned to them. We understand, that this is Esri's business model, hiding trace capabilities behind the UN Server capabilities. We believe, that this is a simple action, almost a query on the dataset, very much like filtering or querying the data as opposed to editing features, which naturally requires at least an Editor user type. Tracing is not requesting more SOC's from the server, nothing is being processed, no other workflows follow a standard trace (compared to editing with f.ex. versioning). We have talked to Esri about our point of view, and need now the support from the user base. The more customers support this idea, the better chances we have that Esri is rethinking its business model around tracing for viewers 🙂

We have some feature layers with editor tracking enabled, but many use mobile apps for viewing purposes only (and love it!). Item views give a good indicator but don't tell us how many exactly are using certain maps. In general, we would love to have more insight in how and when our items are being used, similar to the functionality available in ArcGIS Online.

We would like to know how many people are using ArcGIS Field Maps or any other ArcGIS mobile app. Right now, there is no way to see the number of users for mobile apps. This is crucial to get an idea of the usage, but also to target these people in an organization for support, training and enhancements for maps.

YES! This is practically essential in user administration. We can use custom roles to keep the filtering capabilities but unfortunately, custom roles are somewhat limited beyond simple editing/viewing tasks, so we often have to use standard roles in order to get things done.

The information banner (informing users about planned or unplanned downtime, other events, etc.) should also be available in mobile apps (Field Maps primarily), as many users solely use maps in the apps and not in a browers. They are therefore not getting those notifications. Kind regards, Barbara

The relatively new group function "who can see the list of members on the members tabs" is unfortunatley too restrictive. Here is a blog post describing the functionality: https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-enterprise/announcements/whats-new-in-arcgis-enterprise-10-8-portal-administration/ While the help pages are missing this crucial information: https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/portal/latest/administer/windows/create-groups.htm#ESRI_STEP_B7940CBEB2D144AF9C81E5479672227E There is also not enough information for the user, when one creates a group. The main problem is, that this setting cannot be reversed. So when an organization faces some changes in group and group content responsibilities, only a user with the standard role Administrator can become group owner. This is also super restrictive for organizations that use custom roles and have custom roles for users with more administrative rights but still not enough to be considered an Administrator. So the workaround is to create a new group, add users, reshare the content and share the group URL with its members again.

When a user creates a feature class (line or polygon), shape fields are automatically generated. When editing, those fields are also automatically updated based on their 2D features (length or area) and coordinate system. When ArcGIS Pro was released, all new feature classes were generated with z-values per default. Yet, Esri hasn't included 3D shape fields until now! The work around is to add a new field and run a geoprocessing tool "Calculate Geometry". This is not feasible in an editing workflow, f.ex. in the field when updated 3D lenghts and area are needed for verification, calculations and other processes. Another work around is using Arcade and attribute rules. Again, only work arounds and no solution to this issue is in sight according to Esri. Using ArcGIS Pro with z-aware feature classes for many years now, Esri HAS to address this issue and make their features fully z-aware without cumbersome work arounds! Ideally, a new shape field is added to all z-aware feature classes upon generation and those two fields live side by side in the attribute table: point z for point feature classes, shape_length and shape_length_3D for line feature classes and shape_area and shape_area_3D for polygon feature classes respectively. Therefore, the more users report their use cases, the sooner Esri will start working on this (understandably) comprehensive issue.

It would be great to set a property on a field in a feature class/table as "sensitive", i.e. the field contains sensitive information. We have good overview over which fields in each feature class/table contain sensitive information and have routines in place on database/Desktop level. As soon as it comes to published services, it is easy to loose track. Often, a feature class is part of a number of published services and one has to remember to turn off the field in the properties before publishing. We have of course forgotten to turn off certain fields and shared the item with more people in Portal and ArcGIS Online as necessary, leading to data leakage. It would be much easier to get a warning when publishing the service, informing the user that fields marked as sensitive are visible in the service. Also, post publishing, we could run script, that spits out if the property of a field within a service that is "sensitive". The property would show up in the REST page of the item, see attachment.

We have ArcMap installed on a VPN machine and while my colleagues are not experiencing the same problem, this suddenly happened while opening a .mxd document: Opening ArcMap as a program does not work either, it fails at "Loading document". Opening ArcMap via ArcCatalog fails as well. I tried the following: Renaming normal.mxt didn't work, neither did deleting the file Deleting the ArcMap folder via regedit had no effect either Now when I run the command as described here, ArcMap opens! So I am logged in as administrator to the machine and right clicking ArcMap in the start menu and run as admin does the trick. Does anybody else have the same issue? Any more tips on how to make ArcMap understand that I AM the administrator already and don't need extra priviledges to open the program?
