Hello, I think I speak for many when I say that adding a dynamic geojson layer from a URL would be a gamechanger-- any news on this? As it stands, I can add such a data feed as a layer in desktop QGIS and many web frameworks; and I can add dynamic KMLs and geoRSS to AGO as noted above-- so why this hole in functionality? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Richard. We run 10.1 SP1. What would you recommend, I'd like to create a custom query form, pretty simple, so a user can query a related table to a feature class for records in a certain date range and a few other fields, and see the resulting features selected on the map, and run a report. I'd rather not install VS 2010, any other ideas? Doesn't seem like the kind of thing that python does. Thanks, Kenny

Hi-- I just installed Visual Studio Express 2012. Trying to get started but now I find this thread. The last post is March-- any chance VS 2012 is supported now, in mid-May? Or do I need to download and install 2010.

Following up on my previous post above, I found this in the help for the synchronize cache gp tool: Usage This tool synchronizes a mobile cache and its associated attachments (if available) with its data source via a map document; this map document is the one that the mobile cache is extracted from. When the tool synchronizes changes between a mobile cache and the map document, this tool checks if the map document has the same schema as the mobile cache by comparing their checksums. The checksum is calculated based on the schema of the selected map layers' data source. If the schema has changed, you will not be able to synchronize changes. By default, the extent to upload or download changes is based on the map document's full extent. Only vector layers based on geodatabase data sources (file-based and enterprise) can be synchronized between the mobile cache and its data source. By default, all layers will be examined, and all edits will be checked in. If the data source is a versioned geodatabase, this tool first uploads edits from the mobile cache to its data source, removes the mobile cache, then re-creates the mobile cache for the specified version. Note the last bullet point. This leads me to believe that if you don't use a versioned database, you may have to upload (check in) synchonizations only, then manually create a new mobile cache. Just synching it, and checking download as well as upload, will not do the trick. Maybe this should be reported as a bug, to get solved?

AkhilP, your post is interesting, because here is what I found: I added some points and attributes to a new operational layer in Mobile; when I synchronized back using ArcMap Desktop, I did get all the data. So far so good. I disconnected and added some more points in the Mobile app. Meanwhile, I also added a point on the desktop, and edited an attribute of an existing point. Then I synched, with both Upload and Download options checked in the tool. Result: I disconnected and when I opened Mobile, the point I added on the Desktop was NOT in the mobile. However, the edited attribute WAS changed. I repeated this, just adding another point in desktop and changing another attribute, and the same thing resulted. Edited attribute was visible in Mobile, but not the new point. Reading your post, perhaps I need to register the gdb as versioned? It is just a file gdb.

In the ArcMap doc, does the attribute table have the new points?

We are working on a number of projects that require field data collection, and I am testing ArcGIS Mobile. They are very standard types of projects that many here would be familiar with-- one is municipal stormwater management, another is street tree inventory and maintenance. It seems to me that a fundamental element of this type of project would be a feature class representing things being maintained (catch basins, trees, etc.) and a way to track inspections over time-- with attributes like condition, date inspected, etc. So I was thinking a feature class plus a related table, so you can have multiple inspections for each feature and keep the history of it over time, and do searches and reports on it if desired. The documentation says that ArcGIS for Mobile doesn't support related tables, out of the box anyway, but ArcPad does. Is this true? I'd prefer Mobile over ArcPad if I can, since the field users would generally be non-GIS professionals. It seems like such basic functionality for a field app like ArcGIS Mobile, to select a feature on the map and add an inspection record. Am I missing something? If this is true, would it be something fairly simple to develop with the SDK, at least? Thanks!

I can add the standard imagery and street labels (world transportation) layers on top of the basemap imagery layer, and under the flood data, so that's better. I can't find the Bing aerial or hybrid layers though, are they only available as "basemap" layers and can't be added otherwise? -Kenny

Mike-- it's working for me now. Interestingly I am on a different computer than I was earlier, I am at home rather than at the office. I wonder if there is a firewall issue. But in any case, thanks for your time! I do wish the FEMA WMS would work with one of the other imagery basemaps, this older one isn't very good for NYC, the buildings are all askew rather than top-down proper orthophoto. But that's not an Esri issue, is it? Thanks again, Kenny

Hmm it still doesn't work for me. I 1. start a new map 2. without changing the basemap or doing anything else, I Add the NFHL WMS you provided above (or the first one). Not as a basemap. 3. the basemap (Topographic) automatically changes to ESRI Imagery World 2D, and the NFHL is added. But no features are visible. 4. As you said, by default none of the individual layers are on, so I turn on some on. But nothing ever shows. Does something different happen when you add it? If I try to change the basemap to Imagery or others, I get that error message about the coordinate system. Thanks

Sure, it's https://hazards.fema.gov/wmsconnector/wmsconnector/Servlet/NFHL?REQUEST=GetCapabilities&SERVICE=WMS So even if this WMS works as a basemap--which as I said it is not, for me currently, I cannot see the features--I would ideally like to use it as an overlay on an aerial or other basemap. Will this not be possible, if I have to use this flood layer as the basemap? I suppose I could add an aerial layer (non-basemap), then add the NFHL service again as a layer? Maybe that would work, if you can have a WMS twice in a map.

If I add it to a map that already has a basemap, I get the error message The item, Web Map Service NFHL, can not be added to the map because its coordinate system can't be adjusted to align properly with the basemap. If I add it to an empty map and click the 'Use as Basemap' checkbox, it is added in the legend but no features are visible in the map. Even at a location where I know it should be. Is this WMS, or any WMS that can't align to web mercator, unusable in the arcGIS online map viewer? Thanks, Kenny
