Hello GeoNet Community! One idea that I would like to see implemented is the ability to publish a service containing data formatted with HTML tags to ArcGIS Server. Two examples showing how this could benefit users are shown below. Sending live data feeds to GeoEvent Processor for incident monitoring. Referenced: GeoEvent tutorial guide - Working with RSS in ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor.pdf Sending formatted Emails to customers. See the GeoEvent 'Send an Email' 10.4 enhancement. Referenced: Formatting email notifications in GeoEvent Processor Please let me know when this feature becomes available in ArcGIS Server.

The reality is the documentation for ESRI products is not always reliable. Joshua's suggestion for including user feedback into the online documentation would alleviate the need for ESRI staff to constantly review the documents for completeness. Please consider a few examples, ArcGIS Server GeoEvent Extension 10.3.1 - Missing proxy configuration steps and information on global settings Ref link Business Analyst Address Coder Data Items Tab 10.2.2 - Shows Block level Geocode accuracy but the tool only supports 12-digits accuracy at the Block Group level Ref link These problems were eventually solved with help from ESRI Support after making several check-ins with product experts. This leads me to Andrew's observation that trust can be built, and ESRI users are a great resource to help fill-in the missing holes. For example, on a single page of PHP documentation, users have provided 83 additional insights and community members will moderate the feedback by up-voting, down-voting, or flagging the inappropriate comments, PHP: HTTP authentication with PHP - Manual It doesn't make sense for the users to give feedback on the documentation page to alert staff to then go back to the documentation page and find the issue and put in the appropriate changes (eventually). Please take careful review and consideration on this.

Is there a QC team reviewing the documentation before it's made public? Sorry to say but I am constantly finding outdated online documents supporting functionality that does not work as expected, syntax that is incorrect, screenshots that do not match the product being referenced, and essential setup instructions omitted at version 10.3.1. Is there a GeoNet space for users to record problems found in the documentation and report discrepancies?

I am attempting to modify a FeatureLayer's symbology on the client side and having some issues. Because I do not have access to the hosted feature service and the symbology returned is incorrect, I am wondering if this can be done after the FeatureLayer is created. The reason I cannot assign the symbol at creation time is because there are 9 unique features. Each feature has a graphic as SimpleFillSymbol with the same outline color. Is it possible to correct the outline colors for each of the 9 returned features when I query the feature layer in mode_ondemand? Code Snippet: -Kate

A solution for "404 - File or directory not found" when using GeocodeAddresses in ArcGIS Server 10.3.1 was shared with me by a member of the ESRI staff, Dennis Jarrard, I've re-posted the solution on his behalf. Environment: Windows Server 2008 R2; IIS 7.0; ArcGIS Server 10.3.1 Problem: We have published our address locator file to ArcGIS Server and attempted passing-in addresses to the Geocode Addresses REST endpoint (http://<ServerName>/arcgis/rest/services/<LocatorName>/GeocodeServer/geocodeAddresses?addresses={"records": [.....) for geocoding. We are successful geocoding up to about 10 addresses, but have not been able to geocode a larger amount of addresses. Solution: The issue here may be a length limit. Typically length limits are applied through all proxies and endpoints. Even modern browsers can sometimes limit URL length. ArcGIS Server has a length limit, though I do believe it’s a bit longer than what you’ve shared. My guess is that the web adaptor may be imposing a limit (as it works under the constraints of IIS). To test this, you could try sending the request directly to ArcGIS Server (port 6080) instead of through the web adaptor. However, that’s not really a permanent fix. When sending large amounts of data through a request, or if you need to conceal the parameters of the request, you should use a POST request. In the example you’ve provided, it appears to be a GET request. The difference is that in a GET request, all parameters and values are specified in the URL. This means that the URL can get quite long and unruly. For most query or Find Address Candidates requests, which are short and simple, this is usually just fine. When you start passing many addresses with several fields, you run into length issues. A POST request transmits all of the parameters and values in the body of the request instead of using the URL. Not only does this mean that you can clean up the URL, but it also means that the parameters themselves are not visible to prying eyes. If you send a post request over HTTPS, the body itself is completely encrypted. I’m not sure whether this is important to you, but it’s something to consider. To send a POST request instead of GET, you can start at the REST endpoint of the service. Go to this endpoint in your browser and fill out the parameters with the information. When ready, click POST instead of GET. If you get different results depending on which one you click, then we likely have our answer. If you’re sending these requests through an application, you’ll need to slightly modify your app so that the request is sent using POST instead. -K

Brian, do you need all features to display on your map? We have found by summarizing the data into smaller datasets and publishing a new FeatureService to ArcGIS Server this greatly helps to convey the info we are interested in. We have also set zoom limits for viewing the detailed data points, so we do not query the full (in our case 65 million) features all at once. Adding filters as you suggest, is a good way to limit the number of returned features. Hope this helps. -K

We had issues viewing Teradata tables in ArcCatalog 10.2.2 and ESRI told us we needed to allow read access to DBC.TVM and rename all of our columns with GEOMETRY type to 'SHAPE' stating "it is hard requirement that geometry column must be named “shape” for ArcGIS to recognize". We are waiting for better support of Teradata on the ESRI-side. -K

Thanks Tiffany! This is helpful, after 3 failed attempts our ID is locked-out of Oracle so I'm wondering if increasing the number of failed login attempts to 4 in Oracle will stop the account from getting locked.

Vince, That is interesting. It seems ArcMap is using (at least) 3 failed-login attempts and locking the ID every time an MXD (containing a bad username and/or password) is opened with datasource data stored in Oracle. Our Oracle standards allow 3-failed login attempts before locking the Oracle ID. This is a company-wide standard to prevent brute force attacks. I would think ArcMap stops trying to connect after 4,5,6,etc. failed connection attempts, but maybe I'm wrong and ArcGIS Server and ArcMap only have a frequency setting as you suggest. -K
