Oh! Thanks for following-up. I'm still a bit unclear on what you are saying. Specifically, when you refer to the "Portal Service URL". What is the Portal Service URL? The scenario I am thinking of: Current State: Portal URL: https://host.mydomain.com/portal/ Federated ArcGIS Server Url: https://host.mydomain.com/server/ Target State: Portal URL: https://host.myNEWdomain.com/portal/ Federated ArcGIS Server Url: https://host.myNEWdomain.com/server/ In the above scenario, the webadapter names have not changed, but Portal's URL, and ArcGIS Server's URL have both changed. Thanks again!

So, a couple of years ago I submitted a post asking if there was a way to change the public url of Portal. I work with many companies using ArcGIS Enterprise, and this not an uncommon need. Of course I was informed this was not supported because Portal stores its full url deep in the bowels of its configuration. The recommendation was to "simply" rebuild the Portal from scratch. I'm hoping Esri has finally realized that this is completely unacceptable for "Enterprise" level software. The amount of effort required to rebuild all the web maps and apps is mind-boggling. Please, someone tell me this has been addressed in 11.x

Hi Lindsay, I found your post while looking for a similar solution to generate a unique human-readable record id for features created by an offline app. In my case, the app is VertiGIS Studio Mobile, not Field Maps, but it uses the exact same gdb synch mechanism. Similar to your case, I want to generate an id that is a combination of a "Task Type" key, followed by (Max Record + 1). I'm curious if you got this working offline, and if so, does the field value get calculated only upon data synchronization? Cheers, Jon

If calculated while offline, using (Max Record + 1) could lead to duplicate ids (assuming the possibility of multiple concurrent field workers). Thank-you, Jon

Thanks for the quick response! Regarding the use of a VPN for EGDB connections, you've provided some good reinforcement of my position on that, so thank you for that as well!

Hi Ryan, Hoping to get some clarification on a couple of things: Did you use some kind of "lift-and-shift" utility that automates moving the VMs, or did you build out a new environment and use WebGISDR to move everything? Did your GIS environment include an Enterprise Geodatabase system, and if so, did you move this as well, or did that remain on-prem? If it remained on-prem, are you using a site-to-site VPN to support this? Thanks!

Thanks for the response. I edited my original post to include the version of Enterprise (10.9.1). I will investigate the export / import operations you mentioned. @Scott_Tansley wrote: Personally, I'm not aware of how it can be done. My understanding is that every item that exists on disk has the hostname encoded within it. So a migration to a new environment would 'point back' to the old environment. This would include WebGISDR tool. This is my understanding too, although I'm not sure where I heard / read that. Shockingly bad move to store that along with the item in the database. Thanks again!

The scenario: ACME Corp. is a long-time user of ArcGIS Enterprise, with a mature deployment of ArcGIS Server, Portal and Data Store. Their ArcGIS Server hosts map ser vices supporting dozens of web maps and GIS applications configured in Portal. The server and portal Web Adapters are currently accessed via the following urls: Server: https://gis.acmecorp.biz/server Portal: https://gis.acmecorp.biz/portal Recently, ACME Corp was purchased by Globex Corp, and must change the domain of all enterprise systems from *.acmecorp.biz to *.globexcorp.biz. Can Esri provide any guidance on how to modify the FQHN of an established ArcGIS Enterprise Deployment? If an in-place FQHN change is not supported, and the only option is re-install Enterprise from scratch, can WebGISDR (or something else?) be used to restore all server / portal /data store content? Thank-you. Edit: forgot to mention. Version of ArcGIS Enterprise is 10.9.1

It turns out there was nothing wrong with my expression. The reason I was getting a NULL value is that I failed to include the two date fields in the Field Mapper activity prior to the Field Calculator. This wasn't just an oversight on my part. It was more of a lack of understand of how the plumbing works in GeoEvent Services.

OK, I solved this myself. Solution posted below. I have a GeoEvent Definition with two date fields: Date_Entered & Date_Exited. As you may suspect, these fields indicate the date/time when an event (vehicle) enters and exists a GeoFence. What I need to do is create a GeoEvent Service that calculates the difference betweens the two dates (in minutes), to determine how many minutes (n_minutes) the vehicle was inside the GeoFence. If n_minutes > x, the feature representing the GeoFence will have one of its attributes updated to indicate it was "patrolled". Using this tutorial I created a table in the geodatabase to store the patrol info for each GeoFence (vehicle id, geofence name, date enterered and date exited), and the required GeoEvent inputs / outputs and services to update this table. This is all working. Where I am stuck is using these date fields in a Field Calculator processor's expression. I thought the Field Calculator automatically converts date fields to their milliseconds since epoch representation, so I tried: ((Date_Exited - Date_Entered) / 1000) / 60. This results in a NULL value. I then tried: ((toLong(Date_Exited) - toLong(Date_Entered)) / 1000) / 60. This also results in a NULL value. Is there any way to do this kind of Date math?

One more thing... The GeoEvent Service model is as follows: patrolcar-input (Polls feature service) -> GeoTagger (this performs the geofence detection & filtering) -> Field Mapper (Populates a GeoEvent Definition from the preceeding) Update Feature Output Connector (using the GeoEvent Definition from #3)

Thanks Jordan! You were right on the money with the GeoTagger suggestion. I've got a simple service working by distilling the process shown in this post. My plan is to update the service so a patrol area is only marked as patrolled when a vehicle is within it for a certain length of time (which is exactly what the post I linked explains how to do).
