I am using an ArcReader control in a Microsoft access database. I've got it up and running and displaying a publisher file fine, but I can't seem to be able to find any documentation on the control (accessing through VBA), and it's built in methods and properties, other than finding stuff on the .NET version, which is similar but not the same. Can anyone direct me? Thanks! - John

Ok, I have an ArcReader VBA control up and running in MS Access. See below: I've created a little toolbar at the bottom for moving around etc, it includes the identify tool which works fine for selection of an object. I haven't been able to find any documentation for the "VBA" version of this control, just some documentation for it's use in Visual Studio (VB, C#). The only essential thing I need is the ability to zoom the window into an object based on it's FacilityID number (see field list), using VBA code from the DB. I can't seem to be able to get the "find x/y" tool to work (the one on the far right), I have the icon on there, but don't know what code to put behind the button pressed event. I have been using the folowing code for most of the other icons: ArcReaderControl0.currentartool = "x", where "x"is an integer for the tool type. (Can't find docs on the various tool types, figured it out by trying out numbers from 0-30 ..... 10 gives me the identify tool for example) Of secondary importance would be the ability to trap a 'selection' event from the map (using the identify tool) and bring back the FacilityID number(s) of the item(s) selected back to VBA code. The map window has no generic events on it that work, just some focus and enter/exit events that don't tell you anything. So it's the documentation I'm really looking for, or an example VBA ap that has this functionality written already. Anyone work with this thing? It's nice that it doesn't need a license, just a copy of reader installed on the computer using the access application. I just need read only access to assist with my access application (sewer line video inspection DB). Thanks for your help!!

I'm probably the last person left in the world trying to do this - I am looking to add simple read only mapping functionality to a Microsoft Access DB. I gave up on the Map control as it messes up with the licenses, but as I just need read only access, and the ability for the user to click a map object and hopefully return the object details back to access using VBA, and I am now trying the ArcReader control that doesn't need licensing. It needs pmf 'publisher' files, and I created a publisher file and data grouping that reads fine into my copy of arc-reader on my local machine. When I try to load the same file into the control, it won't load the file. I understand that there is an intermediate step required to modify the publisher file somehow to 'give' permission for the file to be read into activex controls like I am doing. Can anyone direct me where I need to go to be able to do this? I think I read that I need some kind of developer SDK that allows the modification of publisher files to allow access through activex controls. No idea why this is so complicated. I am trying this with ver 10.5. Thanks for your help.

And an update to the Pro crashing issue, saving the layer file to a shp file and removing the original layer with the dbf join solved the crashing issue.

HI Heather, John (not Mark lol) here. I used the following arcade expressons: Round, and Text. These expressions do not show up in the popup box on Explorer for IOS, latest version. I can send you a screen shot, but you can just try using it as noted and you should get the same result. I am also having difficulty getting the "Make Mobile package" working correctly as Pro is crashing, due to one of the layer files being joined to a dbf file, it works fine if I remove that particular layer, so it has to do with the dbf join probably. I will save that layer to a shape file or copy to a new feature set to see if I can work around the issue... John

Sorry Jay I had an older version of Pro, that's why I had no arcade functionality. The updated version had a button for using arcade in the popup by creating custom field expressions, which allows for formatting. Looks great in Pro. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like explorer for IOS, latest version, supports the custom expressions, at least not yet, they display as blanks.

With the latest version of ArcGIS Pro, we can now custom format field data in pop-ups using arcade. Works great in Pro. But when we load that down to explorer, the custom fields are blank. Are there plans to update explorer to bring in this functionality? Otherwise the raw field data looks pretty ugly unformatted, numbers with too many sig figs, etc. Cheers! John

Running the latest version of ArcGIS Pro. newbe here. The online help says that it is possible to format field values in the POpup Configuration window, it says that on the bottom of the field editing window, you have options to Disable Popups, Configure Acrade Expressions, or reset. On my system, I only have Disable and reset buttons on the bottom, nothing about Arcade. Does something need to be configured to enable the use of arcade in popups? Just looking to clean up the formatting of some of the numbers, such as currency, sig figs, etc. John Manson
