I have figured it out, well found a work around. I actually downloaded XTools Pro and used the delete feature function.

I have a shapefile that I created, but I need to remove a section out of it. How do you do a subtraction in ArcView? I have tried doing a clip but it wants to remove other features that I want to keep. I want to only affect the area within this shapefile only.

I am trying to replace a <Null> value in a selected field. When I do a find and replace I get an error that no fields have been detected. I have put in to find <Null> and replace it with the info that I want. I have selected the field but I still get this error. Can anyone help me with this? Is there a better or another way to do this? It just takes too long to select each field and type in the replacement info.

Topology tools are what I use for this type of thing. For this, the data needs to be in a geodatabase. Then you create the topology in that geodatabase and then create rules like "must not overlap" and "must not have gaps". Then there is a topology tool bar that makes these fixes easier. There is another process that may do what you want. I've heard of it only recently, but have not had to use it. Do I need to make a copy of the feature class before doing this? Is there a chance I will mess the file up and can't go back? Thanks for the help.

I have a feature class (polylines) that evidently has overlapping lines in it. Is there a fast way to delete the repeating features? Up to this point I have been selecting a vertices and moving it to see the lines behind it.

Thanks you, I got the extent numbers I needed. I guess I should try to explain what I am trying to do. I have created a grid with a data frame. The grid is for a specific area and the blocks are a certain size, 20 across and 14 down. I have tried using Datadriven pages to create my grid, that didn't work. Now I am trying to use Fishnet to create my grid. I can get my grid the right size, but it won't come in at the same location as the "frame" grid. I am at a loss of what to do, I have tried different things. I have used the "Identify" tool at the bottom left hand corner of the frame to get my X and Y origin cooridinates.

How do you figure the extents of a frame? I am trying to create a "Fishnet" and I need to know the extents (Top, Bottom, Right, and Left). Do I activate the frame into workspace and pick a points or is there a better way. I apologize for such a crazy question, but I am self-taught and there are things I just don't know and can't seem to find any information on.

I haven't had any luck with the Datadrive Tools. I can't get the Datadriver Grid to geolocate correctly to the "Frame" Grid. I figured out my plane coordinate origin and setup to use my file's scale but no luck. When I setup my other projects I just used an old state imagery grid to create a custom grid for my datadriven gas system book.

I created the grid in ArcView 10. I will try the DataDriven Tools to see what happens.

I have created a custom grid that I would like to turn into a feature or shapefile. My main goal is to create a datadriven map with the grid. The problem I am having is that I cannot get it to convert to anything, I am using ArcView 10. I would appreciate any advice.

I would like to learn how to use Python, but I'm not sure what I would use it for. If anyone could direct me to a place to learn the basics of it, I would appreciate it. I am running an ArcView license so I am limited to what I can do with it?

I am wanting to know the best way to update a feature class in my geodatabase. I am in the process of GPSing all of the manholes in our system. I like to do weekly updates to my manhole feature class just to see my progress. As of right now, I am deleting my feature class and creating a new one to do my updates. I am guessing that there is a better way of doing this. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

I have never used ArcReader before, I am not sure how to get my map files to open in ArcReader. How do I get my files to convert to a .pmf? I am running an ArcView license at the moment. I have tried exporting the file and also creating a map package.
