One would think, but this is the core of my problem. if I just put 'Database Connections\dbname.sde', the other one will error out (the one with 'Connection to dbname.sde'). I'll keep digging.

Thanks Xander, I think I only have to safeguard against 2 situations: A local installation where the connection would be : C:\Users\jthomas\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\Desktop10.2\ArcCatalog\database.sde db = sqlserver and then a citrix installation where the ArcMap version is the same (10.2), but Catalog is 10.0, which means the connection is: C:\Users\jthomas\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\Desktop10.0\ArcCatalog\Connection to database.sde db = sql server So the version number is changing, and the end of the string changes from "database.sde" to "connection to database.sde". I guess I could add a button that toggles the connection string, but I was hoping for a good way to detect the environment, and then just use the proper connection.

Hello, so I want to deploy my python add-in for any of the users to use, and I have my connection to a SDE feature class hardcoded in the script , which works fine. I got this connection from ArcCatalog. C:\Users\jthomas\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\Desktop10.2\ArcCatalog + featureClass Now if someone else installs the add-in, they'll have their own connection to the SDE feature class. How can I ensure other users will be able to reach this feature class, and the script won't break?

Dan, Here are my values I'm trying to put in the shape field. But after I run the calc, and then pull the values out of the shape field, they resemble nothing of the X, Y fields. It changes it to the following. I don't get it.

I'm trying to update the SHAPE field of some points by using field calculator to update the SHAPE field based on X, Y fields in the attribute table. Can this be done? I'm trying the below calculation, and the points are changing location, but not to a location that is near either the X, Y fields I'm asking it to. I'm not sure where I'm going wrong here.

Hello, I was wondering why when I log onto Portal as a publisher, I have a reduced lot of widgets to choose from. For instance, the query widget is very basic and doesn't allow for spatial queries or the ability to export to csv. Do i have to be using developer edition to get the expanded widget choices? Compare the screen shots below: This is a basic widget listing I get when I log into portal. I have a different account that allows me all the following widget choices. Note the query widget is different (more robust). Why am I being reduced in the above account, but have more choices below ??

Seth, Thanks for replying. It looks like it's giving me a CORS error. And then ultimately fails to load layers (I *believe* that's what's happening).

Hello. I've been trying for 3 days to get the query widget to do a simple spatial query (return points in a polygon), and can't for the life of me figure out why it's not working (Query Fail! error every time). We are using Portal 10.3 with web authentication. I am not an administrator, but do have a publisher role. Both the point layer and the polygon layer are within my organizational services. I've tried small datasets against small datasets, copying the data to the server, merging the polygon into one shape...etc. I can't figure out why this is so difficult. Anybody have any ideas?

I'm wondering what's going on that when I add a feature class from our SDE instance, it comes in as a standalone table, rather than the feature class that it is. It works properly in ArcGIS Desktop, but I have this issue in ArcGIS Pro.

Hello, I was wondering if somebody might be able to shed some light on what I'm doing wrong here. I have a file geodatabase with some tables in it. I want the script to iterate through each of the tables, look in one specific field ("PHOTO1"), and then look at the existing URL path that is there in the field, and do a replace on the string. Where it sees "\Photo\", it will change it to "_Patrol\Photo\". It seems like what I have should work, yet I get an error that says "TypeError: 'NoneType' object is not iterable". Any ideas? import arcpy
arcpy.env.workspace = "C:\Users\jp8439\Desktop\temp.gdb"
tableList = arcpy.ListTables() #list the tables in the geodatabase
for table in tableList: #iterate the tables
cursor = arcpy.UpdateCursor(table) #place update cursor in the first table
for row in cursor:
str = row.getValue("PHOTO1") #get string value in PHOTO1 field
rep = str.replace("\\Photos\\", "_Patrol\\Photos\\") #variable to replace "photos" with "_patrol\photos"
row.setValue("PHOTO1", rep) # do the replace
cursor.updateRow(row)
del cursor, row

I'm having this problem also (doing a zonal stats as table process). It errors out (the same error as posted above) in the MXD; the workaround for me is doing it out of catalog. Works like a charm there. Still, its frustrating not knowing what is causing it to bomb in the MXD.

Thanks for the 3 excellent responses. I was using the while loop when I was testing this in 9.3 - I didn't plan on changing it, but now I will that I can see the difference..thanks again!
