jimwardlewiston, did you have a possibility to give me remote access. You can contact me by email. Tom Hi Tom, no, sorry, I have no way to grant remote access, my IT dept needs to set this up, and they only have a select group to access remote. But thank you anyway!

I have tried everything. I don't think there is anything wrong with Tom's code. I just think there may be something up with my install, my syntax (although I thought I followed everything to a 't'. Using this command line string to register the PCHarcgisSOE.jar or I would bet any jar file for that matter, just does not work. So question, is there an alternate method to registering an SOE?

AutomationException: Access is denied." I am about to give up! Anybody got any suggestions? Thanks! Jim

jimwardlewiston, what's your ArcGIS server version and o which ServicePack level are you? Tom We are at server 10.0, .net, no service packs applied. Maybe that is my next course of action.

Just updated to Java last 6 build (1.6.0_27), as this was released in August, so should work. But no success. Same error.

Tom, I don't seem to have the javaconfigtool.exe at the path you noted, or anywhere on my server for that matter. I have a .net install, not sure if that matters. I will keep my eye out for any other suggestions anyone may have! Thanks! -Jim

Ruibo, Tom, did either of you ever find a resolution to this problem? I am having an identical issue, have tried different users (members of agsadmin), and been spinning my wheels with this. I keep trying different options for server names, domains, users, etc. Same error. The tool looks like a perfect solution to my map printing/export needs. Would love to implement this! Any help you could offer would be great! Thanks Jim

Has anyone ever experienced ArcReader crashing for no good reason? I have ArcGIS Info 10, loaded the service packs, etc. I can launch ArcReader as an empty document, but whenever I try to load up an existing (pre-10), even if I re-publish under 10, it crashes. Seems the field deployments I have are not experiencing this issue. Why am I? The difference is I have ArcGIS desktop loaded. I doubt it is a hardware resources issue, as my unit is spec-ed much higher that the low end units the end users have. I managed to publish one document with one very simple layer, it opened just fine. Any more than that, it just crashes. Very annoying, as I would like to preview the app before deploying it in the field. Any advice anyone can give would be appreciated! Thanks!

That is one of the drawbacks to ArcRead. Other than markups there is nothing that can be saved, including the last state of layers.

Wow Barry, that does not sound like a minor problem at all. Pretty much makes the product useless without the ability to search/find. Surprised no one from ESRI has replied to this concern yet. Do you have the SP1 loaded? Have you contacted tech support yet? I am having a similar problem. Only you are getting one step further. Mine crashes any time I try to open a published map document with more than one layer! 😞
