I have two features in my editable Feature Service layer-one that was in the map when I published from ArcGIS desktop, and the other that I created within ArcGIS online. When I go to Manage Features, and delete these two features, I click Save Changes, and they appear to be gone until I go to share the map on a Web App, or if I re-open it, the features are still there....I've deleted them now about 5 times, and they keep coming back....is this a bug? Thanks, Jill

I have forwarded your reply to my developer, and hopefully he can tell me how he's planning to do all of it....hoping your reply will help! Thanks!

Thanks for this input, those are additional questions I had as well in my research...it does appear in Help documents that when a "map service" is referred to, it mentions tiling...unfortunately, I need vector layers, so I guess we'll just wait to hear from a pro about what all this means!

Is there a difference between a Map Service and a Feature Service? Our organization website has had an interactive map running off of ArcGIS Server for 2 years, but now we're transferring to ArcGIS Online....our developer is having problems pointing the website to the Feature Service URL link, and says we need for it to be a Map Service....is this right? Is there a difference, or is there a setting I'm just not clicking when publishing the layers? Thanks, Jill

Is it true that in the new license agreement updated on July 1, 2013, it says that if services are set to Public, then there is unlimited credits? It says "unlimited bandwidth", but isn't that the same thing? I've attached a screenshot of the email I received....can someone clarify this? If I'm setting my services in my ArcGIS Online subscribed account to Public, it won't use up my credits? Thanks, Jill

So I can't invite people who have public accounts to join my group created under a subscription?

Yesterday when I posed the question, I had done what you told me to in your most recent post and it said I had to contact ESRI....now it's working fine, YES! But NOW, I'm trying to keep this map private but to share it within a group of invited users....but the search engine to find the users doesn't pull up their usernames when I type them in.....do invited users have to have a paid subscription, too? Or can't I invite users on the public account to have access to a group that I've created with my paid account? Seems like that should be okay, but maybe this is a feature ESRI should add? 🙂 Otherwise, how do I let others contribute to a somewhat private map?

I managed to create a dropdown for editing until I realized later on that I can't share an editable shapefile on a web app, so in creating a feature service, the Edit button is now grayed in the Item Details....I tried creating a service from ArcMap to ArcGIS Online, but it says I don't have hosting services enabled and need to contact ESRI....not sure if that's even necessary, I just need for that Edit button to not be grayed out! Any ideas? Thanks, Jill

If I want my feature polygons to all start out as one color, that would mean they all have the same attribute in that field...so then how would it know what the dropdown options are? Also, how do I make it so that the users can edit a field in the table, but not edit the shape itself? Thanks, Jill

I want to be able to have people add points on Collector, but it'd be nice if, when that attribute table opens, there are pre-existing answers to choose from....otherwise its harder to quantify the data if people are typing in attributes by hand. Is there a way to customize this? Thanks, Jill

Nevermind, figured it out....clicked ADD ITEM under My Content, which converted it to feature service....then, under Item Details for the layer, click the little arrow next to the layer name, and found Time Settings....don't think this has been updated in the directions since the December 2012 updates, because the directions were different in other resources.

Thanks, I actually just figured out how to create a feature service about 5 minutes ago, and now have my shapefile as feature service, but when I go to click on Description, it now doesn't even show up in the layer options....did I miss a step? Was I supposed to check a box somewhere along the way? Thanks, Jill

I am using the 30-day trial....is that feature not included in the trial? I already had a personal account with a different email address, but really wanted to utilize more features but use the 30-day trial first.....will it not work?

I'm trying to configure the Time Settings on my zipped point shapefile on ArcGIS online, but when I go to Description of the layer, it is grayed out. Any ideas what to do? See screenshot...Thanks!
