Hi, I am trying to do a flood model as well with a contour line data of 1m interval. The problem is the lowest contour line started with 2m which is about the high water mark level in the island i am studying. I have created a DEM on this contour line with a lowest raster value of 1.7m...in order to map a rise in sea level, MSL is always taken as a baseline, however, the mean sea level is lower than the contour lines therefore it can not be displayed on the DEM. In this case, I converted all my flood levels to be relative to the same datum as the contour lines or DEM. I managed to delineate contours with flood elevations, however I do not know how to mark these areas as flood zones. Another aim of my study is to determine the land area loss due to flooding. I also realized that the selected contour lines with flood elevations are just line features and therefore can not produce areas because they are not polygons. I have tried to convert these lines into polygons using feature to polygon and then try to add an area field in the table, and calculate the geometry. The area produced is not what I am expecting because it is too small to the normal land area. Any tips on this????I appreciate your ideas.... Thanks Jay

I am doing the same thing here...delineate flood zones...and calculating land area loss from flooding. I managed to create a DEM and then select contours which marks flood areas. however I do not know how to delineate these contours as flood zones. After that I will be calculating land area loss from flooding....any ideas on how to do this? Many thanks Jay

I am still having problems displaying my outputs. I have tried to disable the background processing and I still dont get my outputs displayed on my map. My outputs are send to my workspace...the output was generated and added to the table of content but it was not displayed on the map. What do you mean by writing it to ESRI GRID?how to do that??? Thanks Jay

Ok, now I have a problem. I tried to regenerate a DEM with a polygon made up of polylines (constraining the land), and I use Topo to Raster in ArcGIS 10.1. When the process finishes, the message pops up showing that the Topo raster has been completed successfully. However, there was no DEM produced. It was suppose to come out as a new layer, but this time, it doesnt. I kept trying many times and no results generated. any tips? Jay

No I did not specify the lagoon as a lake. Instead I use the boundary to mask out the water from the land or to separate the land from water. I have a separate data called the coastline but it was made up of polylines. I had to create a polygon from these polylines first so that I can make it a boundary of the DEM. As with the Lake, is it going to be the same result as using the coastline as a boundary?what would you suggest as the best way to do it in terms of accuracy???, thanks anyway Jay With regards With the area that I am working with, there is a lagoon enclosed by a land (indicated with contours of some height). Did you specify this lagoon as a LAKE? Steve
