In case anyone else has this problem, the following response: Thanks for your report. It seems there is an issue here that we need to look into further. Meanwhile, try to use geographic coordinate, for example: mapInitialExtent="xmin:-14.0276,ymin:35.4381,xmax:40.6062,ymax:63.4933,spatialReference:{wkid:4326}" Min Seong Kang

Hi, Hi, We are using a custom map service in our geoportal 1.2 search page. I have defined the mapInitialExtent attribute in the InteractiveMap component in gpt.xml, and it is not reading it in. I use the example in the wiki, and that displays correctly, but when I try to add our own custom initial extent, it defaults the world view: <interactiveMap
jsapiUrl="http://serverapi.arcgisonline.com/jsapi/arcgis/?v=2.5"
mapServiceUrl="http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/NatGeo_World_Map/MapServer"
mapServiceType="dynamic"
geometryServiceUrl="http://sampleserver3.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Geometry/GeometryServer"
locatorUrl="http://sampleserver1.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Locators/ESRI_Geocode_USA/GeocodeServer"
locatorSingleFieldParameter = "city"
mapInitialExtent="xmin:-19941039.73,ymin:1999507.02,xmax:20013930.05,ymax:11539769.19,spatialReference:{wkid:102113}"
/> Any thoughts? Thanks,

hi, i was wondering if anyone has been able to have the geoportal use an application server security realm? We installed the geoportal on WASCE, and ideally, we would like to hook into a WASCE security realm created from properties files. I see in the gpt.xml file that you can have simple authentication or ldap, but no option for a security realm. has anyone done this? thanks,

thanks for your reply. i added the lods as suggested, and i'm seeing no change. for the map, i am loading first a dynamic layer, then 3 tiled layers. i used levels 0-6 of the tiled layers (all three had the same resolution and scale for each level id) could it be since i'm defining my initial extent, and then using the dynamic layer as my first layer, it is ignoring lods? thanks for the help

hi, newbie question here: i have a map viewer with a zoom slider bar (the default one) in the top left. problem is, the initial extent - which i define in my map constructor: map = new esri.Map("map", { extent:initialExtent, logo:false}); the problem is the default view is halfway up the zoom bar (which only leaves around 3 tics until it is maxed out. what i would like is the default view to be at the bottom of the zoom slider so the user has several tics to zoom in further. in other words, so the user can only zoom in, not zoom out past my initial extent. how would i do this? thanks!

thanks for the example kelly. i was trying to create an object esri.geometry.point, while using lat./long. instead of x,y. the following made all the difference: var geometry = esri.geometry.geographicToWebMercator(new esri.geometry.Point(item.longitude, item.latitude)); this is exactly what i needed. thanks guys!

thanks for the response. what i'm trying to do is pull x,y coordinates from a database, and put them as point markers on the map. with an info window, of course. so, i'm not querying layers?

i am currently rewriting a google maps (API v.2) viewer in arcgis for javascript. i have several points that i query a database for and display on the map, with associated info window on click. in google maps, you use the GMarker. what is the best way using arcgis for javascript. map.graphics? a feature layer?

hi, newbie question here: i am using the google maps javascript api to build a mapping application. currently, i have the following code to put a custom map over the google base map: var tilelayers = [G_SATELLITE_MAP.getTileLayers()[0], gTileLayer]; var gMapType = new GMapType(tilelayers, new GMercatorProjection(20), "My Map", {errorMessage:"No Data Available"}); gmap.addMapType(gMapType); what i want to do is use a custom map instead of G_SATELLITE_MAP as the base layer. i've been fighting this for a week. how do i do this?
