Hey Robert This does not solve my problem since if I uncheck two of the layers in the widgets settings, they are no longer available to the end user. I discovered that if I go back to the web map upon which the app is build, and uncheck the two layers in the contents pain, then all four layers will be available to the end user from the layers widget drop down, but only two of them will show when the app is opened.

I'd like to have four layers available to the end user of my app, but I only want two of the layers to show when starting up the app. At the moment all four of them show up whenever I open/edit the web app. How can I get two of them to be hidden automatically?

Sorry, I realise this isn't directly related to widgets. But seeing as there seem to be image service (IS) specific widgets, I wanted to ask the following question: Can you build a web app directly on top of an image service? Or do you have to create a web map from the image service first and then create the web app on top of the map?

Just to clarify for anyone who is having this problem, it is a real bug (see link here), but there is a good way to get around it. When creating the FeatureSharingDraft object before the upload (as outlined here), simply add one more line (see bold below) # Create FeatureSharingDraft and set service properties sharing_draft = m.getWebLayerSharingDraft("HOSTING_SERVER", "FEATURE", service) sharing_draft.summary = "My Summary" sharing_draft.tags = "My Tags" sharing_draft.description = "My Description" sharing_draft.credits = "My Credits" sharing_draft.useLimitations = "My Use Limitations" sharing_draft.portalFolder = "Test Folder" Where "Test Folder" is the name of the folder on your server where you want to do the upload. Then when you call the arcpy.UploadServiceDefinition_server function, and set the in_folder_type="EXISTING", it will look to the portal folder you specified in your FeatureSharingDraft object. Hope that helps!
