Hi I have downloaded a mapping application template from arcGIS.com that is basically an index.html along with some .css and javascript files Right now it displays multiple layers on a base map I would like to know how I would go about finding and adding the appropriate code to add an editable feature layer: http://services1.arcgis.com/ZIL9uO234SBBPGL7/arcgis/rest/services/OaklandCultureCommunity/FeatureServer/0 and allow users to add polygon features to it as well as edit the attributes by adding comments I appreciate any help or direction anyone can offer Thanks!!

From what I can understand, I believe you are publishing a feature service layer from arcGIS desktop by clicking file>sign in to ArcGIS Online using your user name and password Then go again to File > Share As > Service > Publish a service and use the drop-down box to select or create a new connection If you don't have your own server, you should be able to use your arcGIS.com account to log in via http://arcgis.com/home, user name and password (I use an organization server but think you should be able to use a basic account too) Go through the service editor by clicking the tabs on the left and setting your preferences as you go being sure to select feature service and enabling editing capabilities Then, once you publish the service, you should find the feature service layer by going to arcGIS.com, logging in on your browser and selecting it in the "My Content" section After adding it to a web map, you should be able to click on the layer or clicking edit in the top navigator bar, then going to the map be able to sketch your polygon features Hopefully this is what you had in mind, a link to the process can also be found here: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//0154000003vt000000 Good Luck!!

Hi So I have been at this over and over and getting no where!! I have been able to change the feature layer in the AttributeEditor to my own and changed the dynamic layer into tiled service layer They come up and I can see them, but I have to pan over from Kansas to California to see it... The original sample layer was set for Kansas, US while my new layer is in California I've changed the extent in the AttributeEditorActivity.java as: mapView = new MapView(this); initextent = new Envelope(-10868502.895856911, 4470034.144641369, -10837928.084542884, 4492965.25312689); mapView.setExtent(initextent, 0); and, in the main.xml: initExtent="-10868502.895856911 4470034.144641369 -10837928.084542884 4492965.25312689" Is there somewhere else that I need to change this as well to load a California view opposed to the Kansas view that keeps coming up?? or does it keep pulling the original info from the web sample maybe?? Thanks in advance for any help or ideas!!

So happy to have some direction on where to start!! Android programming definitely has been a little more difficult for me to pick up than other types I've had my hand at thus far.... Thank-You so much for all your help and all this info It's nice to have a solid idea from someone knowledgeable to give more confidence to the steps forward 🙂

Yes, Exactly, You are right, I do not have ArcGIS server installed but am using my school's hosted service which, yes, does only allow me to publish tiled or feature services.... It's good to know that I simply cannot publish a dynamic service layer so I can quit wasting my time trying~ Using the code here, I have been able to preview my layer in my app!! Thank-You so much for that!! I don't suppose you might also be able to direct me to some documentation or tutorial on how I can now make that layer editable to the user or allow them to add features if they choose!?!? I believe I need to add a graphics layer to do that for starters??? I truly appreciate any help you can offer!! Thanks a bunch 🙂

Hello I have been trying to figure this out since and have realized that the layers I am able to publish are feature services Here are a couple of links to my content: http://services1.arcgis.com/ZIL9uO234SBBPGL7/arcgis/rest/services/OaklandLandmarkPtsPly/FeatureServer/1 http://services1.arcgis.com/ZIL9uO234SBBPGL7/arcgis/rest/services/OaklandLandmarkPtsPly/FeatureServer/0 I did try to publish a dynamic service layer, but wasn't able to access my organizations server to do so.... Is there a way to do it maybe with the free arcgis.com account?? Thanks!!

Hello I have been struggling with no progress to simply display a layer of my own data on a basemap in an android app None of the Dynamic, Feature or Tiled map service layers work since I do not have arcgis server access without log-in I found info and sample for using a .CSV file hosted in my own regular URL, and am using the sample "AddCSV2GraphicsLayer".... This sample uses the android date picker to output events of the date queried with the button Is there a way to customize this without the query, or just display ALL the points in my .csv file? OR, Can anyone offer any resources for working with .csv and graphics layers together? or How I can control the view or query and what ever else might help?? Thanks in advance for any help and guidance!

Hi I really appreciate your response but don't think that's what I want to do.... From the look of it, a log-in would come up before anyone could view the map and I don't want to just give my account info out to the world, but I do want the public world to be able to see the data layer just by opening the android app I did find another sample called "AddCSV2GraphicsLayer" Could you offer any help in getting my own URL hosted .CSV layer to display in my map view? Thanks!!!

Hello I am trying any way possible to add my own layer on top of a basemap using the ArcGIS SDK with Eclipse for Android The samples from ArcGIS, (i.e.. AddLayer and AttributeEditor) use new ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer I have access to an ArcGIS server through my organization and have tried every way to upload my layer there which is hosed in "my content" and made public Every time I add the url to the code however, it never displays.... I am wondering if maybe it is because I need a password to access my organization's ArcGIS server? Can I program that in there somehow to make it work?? I have also tried to create a new map service from ArcGIS desktop, and have added my user name and password there, but that isn't working either 😞 Whether, via the dynamic service layer from my organization's arcGIS server, or any other way possible, .kml maybe?, is there any way at all that I can load my own data layer on top of a basemap in the Android application I am creating?? Thank-You So much for any help at all!!!

Hello I am a pretty novice user taking a USC GIST Master Certification with a final project to use GIS to solve a spatial problem My model has several steps and I am stuck on trying to automate a process to find the banks of an area where the flow accumulation is greatest Does anyone have any ideas which tool or process would be used to find the banks or highest elevation around a stream or river? I am working with a DEM layer and though I may be able to visually identify the bank areas, is there a way to automate a polygon for the river or stream that encloses the banks of the stream as the outer border of the polygon I really appreciate any help and input for solutions to this objective Thanks so much!!
