We are looking into creating a GIS based mobile application - I was informed that ESRI Collector might be a good direction to go, I looked around and didnt find much documentation on what things can be done with it (maybe I am looking in the wrong place?) - so I am sorry if some of my questions are obvious Our system is already in place and we are looking into this mobile app to help facilitate data collection in the field Q1) Can I call a stored procedure to control the data update (i.e. update other fields, validate input..etc)? Once a feature is updated we need to call a stored procedure to update other fields, this also relates to data validation, where and how can we do this in the app? Q2) Link to live URL? There are alot of design references that the user might need access to from the field (assuming they have a connection), can we expose the URL from within the application? Q3) Controlling UI? How much control do we have over the UI, can we have checkboxes, dropdowns...etc or are they all fields. I think in the tutorial I did see a drop-down. Also can these be filled based on certain sequence of events? For example I have 2 drop-downs,D1 and D2, and I need D2 to be filled based on the contents of D1, is this possible? Another scenario, is if D1 has value V1 then and ONLY then show D2? Any insight is much appreciated

Hi, We have a web-application that uses ASP.Net and AJAX technologies, there are postback and partial-postbacks, currently we are using the ArcGIS Javascript API to create a map but on every postback (partial or complete) the JS API keep throwing JS errors Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it? Thanks Jafar

Hi Joseph, Yes in my case, I fixed it by making sure that whenever I am navigating away from the page (or hiding the panel) I unload the map (call the map object Destroy method), and when I am navigating back to the map page or when I need to show the panel again, I reload the map (calling the function that init and load the map) HTH Jafar

I have an ASP.Net application that uses AJAX.Net, in one page of my application we want to have some panels change their visibility (be hidden then become visible), one of these panels have my map control. My problem is when I have this panel within an update panel (must have!). The map would only load the first time, then in the next postback (partial or complete) it disappears. I tried recreating the map after every partial postback (scriptmanage.EndRequestEvent) but with no luck. I had attached a sample application that demonstrates my problem, any help would be much appreciated

I tried to replicate my problem in a separate sample project, but I couldnt replicate all of the issues! I couldnt replicate my zoom issue but I was able to replicate my other problem, which is the map load. When I navigate to the tab that has the map, the map will be shown but with two issues: first you might not see the map although its there so you need to zoom in, second, it doesnt expand to fill in the whole area until I do a postback (there is a button in the sample app). After the postback it opens and runs fine! In my actual application solving this postback issue would solve my zoom problem. In the attachment you will find an ASP.Net web project with an ASP.net user control called wcStaticMapControl if you run the application you will have two tabs: Test (selected by default) and Map Panel, please click on the Map Panel then you will get the map, zoom in and you will see that the map is not filling its space. After that click the "Click for postback" button and you might need to zoom in again but this time you will notice that the map had expanded! Any help would be much appreciated thanks Jafar

Hi all, I have an ASP.Net application (uses Ajax) and I wrote my own map control. When I run the application and go to test my map control, it behaves in a very awkward way! Here is an example: Now if I scroll my mouse to zoom in it zooms to the lower right corner rather than the center If I use the scroll/zoom bar it zoom into the center! Any thoughts? Thanks Jafar

Hi mcdade31, I recently developed a map control for my application and I had this same problem! In my case: ASP.Net application using Ajax controls and after researching it for too long, it seems its related to having the control within a control within an update panel, so I had to either move my map outside of the control and directly within the update panel. Or I had the user to click a button that would do partial refresh for the map contain (my custom control)! of course I went with the first and redesigned my GUI and now everything works fine 🙂 This might not be much help but hopefully it gives you an idea. Hi, In my application I created a map control which uses ArcGIS Javascript API. If I place my control on a page by itself it works fine, but if I put it within an update panel it doesnt! Unless I add another control that would enforce a postback on the update panel. which is the problem! I dont want my users to click a button to get to see their map. Any ideas? I tried many workarounds to invoke the postback and update the panel but I keep getting weird javascript errors from the ArcGIS javascript file "http://serverapi.arcgisonline.com/jsapi/arcgis/?v=2.8" Any hints or tips are highly appreciated, I've been working on this for couple of days and no progress. Thanks Jafar
