I work on a variety of projects that involves data in vector and raster format across a variety of different locations across the world. Most of this data is received from the client who has no knowledge of the coordinate system/projection used. After finding the location of the project I often have to try and find out the projection thats used so that I can align everything in "real-world" space. Up until now I have used a website Georepository which lets you place a point on a map and it then gives a list of possible projections, however this website hasn't worked for a few months. Does anybody know of any other resources that could help? In an ideal world I would like to navigate to the location in ArcMap using a basemap and then a list of suggested projections would be available under the Coordinate System tab in Data frame Properties but im guessing this is something ofr the ESRI Ideas page ... Browsing through an ESRI Map book I came acrss this label type that I would like to recreate. Apparently it was created using Desktop 10.1. Is there any way to create this as a label style? I  cant find how to do this without manually creating the black box with white text and white box with black text then aligning and grouping them. ... View more

I want to create a simple Collector project where I can go out collect a point location and take a photo of that location then add it as an  attachment. Im following the steps on this page: Work with attachments—Collector for ArcGIS | ArcGIS Ive set up the feature class with a 2 fields - 1) to add photo ID and 2) a field for some comments/notes. According to the tutorial I need to right click/Manage and Create attachments but this option is not available. Any suggestions on how to enable this? Im trying to create an ArcPad Template with certain geological symbology. I have created a axf with custom made forms and followed the steps on this page:ArcPad Help When i select my Template from the Quick project Menu i keep getting a Error creating Quick Project folder message. Hi Im using the ESRI imagery basemap as a background for some figures that Im creating but i need to know the capture date. In the past I've used the Identify tool to achieve this but all of a sudden this does not work and all I get is "No Identified features" caption. Its strange because it was working a few weeks ago. Is it possible to zoom to the extent of layer that has a page definition? I have various prospects which I have set up with data driven pages. The problem is the extent of these is too large to show clearly in a inset map. The data driven pages have to be set up at a 1:2000 scale and because of this not all of the prospects are visible at this scale and therefore require multiple pages per prospect. My idea for the inset was to zoom to each prospect and have an extent indicator to show where in the prospect the page lies. Is this possible? thanks ... View more

I have 2 separate DEMs which i wish to combine. One is the current DEM and the others are satellite pit designs. I am trying to add the pit designs into the current DEM so that it will represent the future DEM. Both are currently in dxf format. I have tried creating surfaces for both then using the Mosaic to new raster to join the two (selecting the pit surfaces to define the overlapping areas). The problem with this method is that it tends to lose the detail of the pit slopes. is there any other method that can be used to combine the two? Is there a workflow using TINs that will work? thanks ... View more

Hi Im trying to create some geological point files for field data collection using ArcPad. I am setting up the feature class with the correct labeling and want to rotate the symbol by dip direction. When i apply these settings the rotation of the symbol is not correct. How do I go about correcting this. Hi, Im trying to convert some Map notes features that a colleague has created into shapefiles. I have a series of lines and circles in a web mapand wish to export these as shapefiles. I ran a quick test on a dummy map note layer i created using the guidelines in the following link (Crowdsourced Data: ArcGIS Online | Environmental Data Center ) and everything worked ok. When i try to recreate this with the layer i need the map notes layer does not show up on the desktop version. the map notes layer is saved as a feature layer in the group i created and i have full sharing access to the group. ... Hi I am trying to automate a workflow where I convert an existing mxd with multiple layers into a web service so that colleagues can use this web service to locate the data files that they require. I am trying to develop a system where someone can click on a layer in a web viewing platform and the pop up will tell them the location of the file they require, in other words I am creating a data repository for each project we work on. I want the web layer to only contain the item name and its file location in the attribute table therefore need to delete any existing unnecessary fields and then add and populate a new field with its file path The basic process is as follows: Set up mxd with Coordinate system set the web Auxillary Add layers (and assign Datum Transformation if necessary) and symbolise accordingly Delete unnecessary fields Add file path field and populate with file path (automatically if possible) Publish all the layers as a web service Im pretty inexperienced in using model builder and am having trouble setting the model up so that i can eventually create a tool to streamline the whole process. So far this i what I have but cant get the Delete field function to link to the process so that the user can select the fields they dont want. Any help will be appreciated Thanks ... View more
