PostGIS Question, Hello My question is addressing the work with PostGIS. Connection to PostGIS Is it possible to connect to a PostGII. Yes it is. No Problem. I will post today a short guidance how to install Postgresql and PostGIS and which version you need exactly to install and run Postgresql and PostGIS on 32bit and 64 bit machines. I will provide the postgresql-clients as well. Editing PostGIS Features So here comes the crucial question. Is it possible to edit Features, being in a PostGIS-database without using sde from ArcMap? Using sde is clear. Should and has to run. But whats about the PG_Geometry, relating to PostGIS. Many Esri-Users want to edit PostGIS features. That should be a core functionality of a high end gis, like ArcGIS. Maybe there are some beta-tests? Thanks Holm

Hi I have a problem creating an enterprise geodatabase with ArcGIS 10.1 and postgres. It doesn´t work. Every time i get this message "You must copy the latest ST_GEOMETRY and dependent libraries to the PostgreSQL software location. Refer to the ArcGIS help topics for more details. Connected RDBMS instance is not setup for Esri spatial type configuration. Failed to execute (EnableEnterpriseGeodatabase)." windows Server 64 bit ArcGIS 10.1 Desktop ArcGIS 10.1 Server 64 bit Postgres 9.05, 64 bit and/or 32 bit So here is the problem 1) If you install postgres 9.02-64 bit you cannot create an connection, because everytime this failure are displayed: "database client software failed to load" 2) If you install the 32 bit version you get a connection to a postgresql database. ! But if you want to "enable enterprise geodatabase" or create a new enterprise geodatabase" you always get a failure message from above (st_geometry is not right). Are the reasons to find in the correct five "lib-Files" from postgres, that you need to copy to ArcGIS Desktop bin or in the st_geometry.dll? Please not reference to some resource help. There I couldnÃ?t find any solution or help. Are there any resource, where i can get the correct postgresql â?? Files? The Customer-Care-Portal cannot help you, because of these reasons. â?¢ There aren´t any postgres files in the customer care portal. I don´t know, who was writting this in the resource help! â?¢ Where can a normal user get these appropriate files without going to the Customer-Care-Portal? thanks Holm

Hallo, have anyone ideas to solve this problem. I have installed ArcGIS 10 Desktop plus ArcGIS10 Server Additional the Service Pack 2 is installed on the Desktop Version and on the Server Version. Then the ArcGIS for INSPIRE Extension have been successfully installed. One extension for the Desktop Version and the one extension for the Server Version. So now if i want to install the ArcGIS for INSPIRE "service pack 1", the "service pack 1" couldn´t be installed because the program cannot find the appropriate program or version. for any helps thanks Holm

Hallo Robert, thanks a lot. Now it functions. But what i am interested is the projection. The server projected on the fly, because i have another coordinate system as the maps provided by esri. Ok now. Thanks a lot. I have also seen your example. It´s every time i´m learning a new language. The easiest things i overlook. 🙂 Holm

Hi, i have a question concerning loading localhost services in flex builder. Should be a simple task. Simple put a resource, a map resource, into the operational layer. SO here is the part for the operational layer: <operationallayers> <layer label="Boundaries and Places" type="tiled" visible="false" url="http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Reference/World_Boundaries_and_Places_Alternate/MapServer"/> <layer label="Fires" type="feature" visible="false" alpha="1" info="widgets/InfoTemplates/SimpleInfoWinWidget.swf" infoconfig="widgets/InfoTemplates/IWT_Fires.xml" url="http://sampleserver3.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Fire/Sheep/FeatureServer/0"/> <layer label="Test" type="feature" visible="false" alpha="1" url="http://sv-03/arcgis/services/ServerBasic02/MapServer/0"/> Its going about the last 2 codes. The running machine is called sv-03, but i changed it to localhost. So the application starts but then running endless. Do i have to change the ccordinate system? i have tried it also in the flex api as simple code. The same thing. Thanks Holm

Hi Aaron, a good idea. I also looking for a gp widget. The problem is, i just start to beginn creating widget with flex api. Normally i´m a gis expert and a python programmer. But i´m looking for well documeted instructions or tutorials how to built a gp widget. Surely you can look at the sample codes, but it´s more important to understand the structure. so it would be nice if someone can share the experience. I can only the support the question of aaron to support high level steps of making a gp widget. PS: Aaron do you have ever built a query widget? Thanks Holm

Hallo, First thanks to all the people who wrote a reply. 1) Jeffrey Evans, thanks for your aml file. Unfortunately i do no have a arcinfo workstation. So i have to perform / create this analysis in arcgis itself. 2) Phil Morefield, Sure this would be a solution to run a morans analysis in python. Converting to points is no problems. But my task is to solve such a operation with grid cells. The reasons are due to many thematic maps existing in raster format. 3) William Huber Thanks for your very detailled solution. I have some question. But before i start i will provide a simple example. Example. Let´s imagine a simple 3x3 grid with a indicator transformation to 1 or 0. I had done this before with my rasters. This looks like 1 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 For a better understanding i will give names to every cell. a b c d e f g h i My weight w(ij) looks like this: 0.5 0.5 0.5 0.5 1.0 0.5 0.5 0.5 0.5 Ok no i want to calculate the morans So every gridcell should have its own morans. "I" stands for morans between -1 and +1 The result should be like this Ia Ib Ic Id Ie If Ig Ih Ii I have studied your equation. I have attached an example. It is an gdb geodatabase and a weighted kernel. Big letters explains the source or intermediate results and small letters are the operators. TestGrid is the base. Ok lets beginn. Here are the grids. I Denumerator "Denumerator1_Variance" = is the focal (3x3) variance of the values "Denumerator2_Variance_times_DoubleSumWeights" = is the product of "Denumerator1_Variance" and the Doublesum of the 3x3 weight. The doublesum of the weight is 10 (weight matrix above) So the denumerator is solved. But now the numerator. II Numerator. "Numerator1_focalXj" = is the Sum over all neighboring gridcells from exactly one center cell with the weights / weightmatrix. "Numerator2_FocalXj_minus_X = is the subtraction of the value normal x-value from the "Numerator1_FocalXj" grid. "Numerator3_Numerator2_product_TestGrid = is the product of the "Numerator2_FocalXj_minus_X" grid and the normal "TestGrid" "Numerator4_focal_Numerator3" = is the FocalSum of the "Numerator3_product_Numerator2" grid. !!!I used here a focal sum Willima instead of a zonal sum, because i want the morans for every grid cell in a 3x3 neighborhood. i think this should be the correct procedure. "Numerator5_Numerator4_times_8" = is the product of the "Numerator4_focal_Numerator3" grid and the number of neighbors, here 8 neighbors. So we have the numerator. http://forums.arcgis.com/images/icons/icon6.png III Divide The last calculation is: Numerator / Denumerator "Divide" = "Numerator4_focal_Numerator3" grid divide by the "Denumerator2_Variance_times_DoubleSumWeights" grid. this should be the endresult. For me it looks ok. Please test and write me back. Thanks a lot Holm

Hallo, Can anyone tell me a procedure to get a spatial autocorrelation based on gridcells. Here is the problem. I want to use the morans autocorrelation for a raster dataset. The formula or equation is clear for me. But the core problem is now to calculate the cross product for a defined neighborhood. The goal is to calculate local morans autocorrelation values for every grid cell. I guess, this is not easy as it sounds. My consideration was to calculate all the values from the focal statistics. The variance and summed weighted values, which are needed in the morans calculation are no problems. But the cross product in the numerator make some difficulties. I found no solution to get the cross product for a 3x3 neighborhood or higher. Can anyone help me. Holm

Hallo , Here a couple of thoughts about raster and list and ascii files. I have created some python scripts / models for converting ascii files into rasters. The complete process encompases 4 main processes. Python model 1) Here you can seach and replace string within a txt ASCII file. Python model 2) The next step is to determining the header information. Python model 3) The core process, including the Import of as many as ASCII Files you have. The clue is, that you can process floating data. (Temperatur, precipitation, DEM). As input you only have to set the input workspace of the ASCII files, the output location, the desired coordinate system and two cellsizes. Python model 4) Finally the attribute calculation for the original ASCII attribute values. ! There was only one problem. Everytime you exchange / replace the input type of ASCII files, there was a error message. In other words. a) You have 200 ASCII Files. run the 4 Python processes --> everything function. b) But now, use 50 total different ASCII Files, that have nothing in common with the 200 first ASCII files. A error occurs. Solution: 1) Run a Registry Cleaning tool, like CCleaner. Restart ArcCatalog. 2) Simple save the python script under a different name --> it runs. Is this a typical 9.3.1 problem? Is this solved in ArcGIs 10? If anyone is interested in these python models (simple load in Toolbox, fullfill the parameter) or have other solutions please contact me. seifertgis@holmseifert.com

Hallo guys, i have a question concerning a python script and raster analysis. I have created a python script for converting ascii to raster and further analysis. (adding fields and calculating). But the problem are the floating points, because the data describes climate data. When i run the script first i works very well. but if i run the script for the second or third time, it abrupt in the middle of the process. (gernal function failure). Have anyone an idea for a solution? Thanks Holm
