Hello, guys, Any advice on ArcGIS/ ArcGIS Pro desktop installation in Linux Deepin (desktop and server)? +++++ Just check the doc on a Mac at https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/get-started/run-pro-on-a-mac.htm, which looks that it is going to be very promising via VMware Fusion, parallels. What about it in Linux (Deepin) via virtualbox, parallels, or VMware ?

Hello imagery associates, When loading the bundle Pleiades-1 RAW data (i.e., bundle 0.5m Panchromatic and 2m Multispectral under folders) into Mosaic Dataset, do you witness the following? The standard Pleiades-1 template (attached) works fine with Mosaic Dataset in ArcGIS 10.4 or 10.4.1.: ... Completed crawling 470 data source items. Added 470 mosaic dataset items. However, this Pleiades-1 template is not functional at all with ArcGIS 10.5/ 10.6.1 and ArcGIS Pro, even though it is applied onto the same bundle Pleiades-1 data folders with all same options: ArcGIS 10.5/ 10.6.1: Start Time: Sun Sep 16 13:28:32 2018 2018-09-16T13:28:32.066: Loading raster datasets 2018-09-16T13:29:12.046: Completed crawling 470 data source items. I would like to confirm with you, if any similar or reproducible observations.

thx, Xu, Eventually, the issue is identified and fixed in mosaic dataset: In addition to two local datum files (.las, .los) to be placed in 'C or D:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Pro\Resources\pedata\nadcon', the third file (.GTF), which is referred to 'GRID Transform File', is also required and copied to the user’s Application Data folder, in the ESRI Custom Transform directory as follows, saying hlzhang525: C:\Users\hlzhang525\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\Desktop10.5\ArcToolbox\CustomTransformations Similarly, to do same in image server, if this local transformation is applied to image services or dynamic caching .. Hello, Recently practice and witness the following, which is reproducible in ArcGIS 10.4.1 and 10.5.1: Background: ArcGIS built-in (3 to 5-parameter) transformation between WGS84 and local datum, called 'Option 1' used by default in Mosaic Dataset; A more accurate (7-parameter) custom transform between WGS84 and local datum, called 'Option 2', which is used to take over Option 1 in Mosaic Dataset Action: Option 2 is customized, which is also configured via Environment Settings (for takeover of Option 1), where NADCON file is managed under C or D:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.5\pedata\nadcon folder Symptom: When images with WGS84 (UTM) are loaded into a Mosaic Dataset (with local datum), the Option 2 is not functional, which still uses Option 1 for the transformation. It looks no takeover at all. However, if those images are directly loaded into ArcMap, it demonstrates two options: Option 1 and Option 2. When the Option 2 is selected, the transformation works fine. Any advice? Regards,

Hello, desktop teams, As well-known to ArcGIS /ArcGIS Pro users, most types of databases require users to install and configure a database client on the machine that will connect to the database. For example, they have to install Oracle instant client (32-bit, 64-bit) with the Path environment variable properly configured, after desktop ArcGIS /pro installed. In practice, it is very troublesome, especially, in an enterprise (the tight security). In fact, we witness that this type of database-oriented installation/ configuration steps are very hassle to non-IT professionals like economists, engineers and geoscientists, even very often to many IT support guys. Just wondering if ESRI can build one single desktop ArcGIS installer (32-bit) or ArcGIS Pro installer (64-bit) for enterprise users, which include major supported database clients like Oracle instant client (32-bit or 64-bit) and path environment to be configured properly. As an example, ArcGIS Pro 1.4 or later already implement similar for Python 3 (Conda), which certainly demonstrates much better productivity and efficiency to help enterprise users. please advise

greeting, Rebecca, With the roadmap of Pro, it is helpful for us to understand and utilize Pro in the operational workflow. Certainly, still not find out the real 'technical' barriers for Pro not having the good publishing capability ... +++++++++++++ Generally, customers always seek cost-effective/ efficient and secure engineering solutions with good functionalities from one major vendor, but it 'must-be' open and easy for users to seamlessly integrate and effectively interoperate with other solution packages within an enterprise, including 'open source' and 'hybrid cloud' environment. In fact, most of enterprise customers also wouldn't expect a perfect solutions with complete engineering and analysis functionalities from a 'major' vendor ...

thx, xander, It looks that ArcGIS Desktop still will be used to publish all types of GIS services to new ArcGIS Enterprise (ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS). Still confused with the intentions why ESRI has been making the huge effort on the development of ArcGIS Pro (rather than restructuring ArcGIS Desktop and CityEngine as 64-bit HPC packages). So, what 'extra' critical and special roles are ArcGIS Pro going to play in ArcGIS Enterprise ecosystem?

team, With many improvements of Pro 2.0, it is time for us to apply Pro into operation from ArcGIS 10.x. One question is related to Pro for data management to an ArcGIS Server 10.x … Can you advise if ArcGIS Pro (like ArcGIS 10.x) will directly support raster publication as an image service from Mosaic Dataset? If not, what are the main considerations or technical barriers for ArcGIS Pro not to have this capability sooner? Regards,

Thanks, Jamie, Similar to ESRI raster function samples, a customized Python raster function (that we just quickly create) works well in both Pro 2 and 10.5. Wondering where we can find the guide to directly call raster Python functions in MD from external packages (GRASS, QGIS, or Spatial Modeler from ERDAS Imagine/ Apollo/ M App X), which are already available in the workstation or server (It looks that pip or conda is not suitable anymore)? For example, we would like apply GRASS R.SUN function to MD. Can you advise the steps with rules? Regards, larry @ aramco

Really helpful. Worth to deeply dig into raster functions in MD, which can be used to solve more complex raster and imagery intelligence challenges in operation, even as an innovation platform. Jamie, Can you please help check if the contents is accessible to you? It looks invisible, which shows blank under the title...

Jamie, thanks a lot. It works as expected. Certainly, I would like to take this opportunity to learn from you how effectively to utilize a out-of-box Python Raster Function in MD, if you can demonstrate the codes with snapshots. Again, thanks for your quick assistance.

Yes, Bakker, In order for me to easily follow, may you share a customizable function chain with similar rules? If possible, please attach a snapshot. As you know, 'Sultan's Formula' (very much closer to what we look for, i.e., RGB) and 'User Defined' (only one band to be created) in the drop down list under Band Arithmetric are available. But, it looks that 'Sultan's Formula' method is not customizable. In fact, the original intention is how to find out an easy way to customize (not create) an image processing and analysis function from any existing functions. As recommended, the good slides on creation of a NEW raster function can be accessible here: how to write image processing algorithms using the Python Raster Function). It may be right time to learn how to properly call ERDAS Spatial Modeler, scikit, and OpenCV in MD, ArcGIS. In fact, very often for us to directly call ArcPy, scikit and OpenCV within ERDAS Spatial Modeler (via Python Script operator) without any significant coding effort. Many thanks and regards,

team, I need your advice on a new RGB function chain in MD, which will follow the following rules: 1. Input: images already added in MD (6 bands per image, 16 bit pixel depth per image & MD); 2. Create RGB as 16 bit, where R is from band 3, B is from band 1, but G is calculated with the formula: band 2 * 0.7 + band 4 * 0.1 + band 6 * 0.2 (used to identify types of insects diseases in farming and forest lands); 3. Output:RGB as 8 bit (ready for other tasks such as color balancing to match a 8-bit target, if necessary) Thanks in advance ++++++++++++ If you only have 4-band imagery like GEOEYE, G can be replaced with the formula like band 2 * 0.7 + band 4 * 0.3

ian, For ECW file (created by ER Mapper or ERDAS Imagine), users very often see this type of black or white edge issue. Right now, Hexagon Spatial (ERDAS Intergraph) usually recommend users to use JP2 (rather than ECW) for interoperation. In order to remove the black or white edge issue around the ECW file, you may try below: 1. to import ECW into IMG by ERDAS Imagine, then clip dirty edge of this IMG file in ERDAS, or manage this IMG dataset in MD via manually editing footprint (preferable); 2. directly add ECW into MD and then manually edit footprint in MD to remove white edge (not recommendable)
