Chef, Cloud Formation, and Team Foundation Server are part of our DevOps tool kit used to develop and manage the ArcGIS Enterprise. The GIS is a part of the AWS Cloud DoD unclassified information sharing service architecture. The VPCs within gov-cloud, have a STIG for encryption of data at rest, as well as, the high availability requirement to win the authorization to operate (ATO). Windows Servers with DFS meets both requirements, however, this configuration is not supported for use with ArcGIS Server's "config-store". Esri has a great solution for AWS using the DynamoDB to store the ArcGIS Server (AGS) "config-store" but there is not an option for encryption on gov-cloud yet. There maybe other DoD reasons that would block using the AWS data storage service, so an alternative is needed. Would it be useful to have the "config-store" type support for MongoDb, that way we could address the HA and the encryption of "data at rest" requirements?

try the ..:7443/arcgis/adminpanel and look at the log files. if this is not working, then look in the portal's log files located here: <arcgisportal site location>\logs\<your machine name>\portal There should be some errors that make it a little more clear what's going on. you may need to talk to your network person at some point. if you just want to look, in windows, using a command prompt or powershell, and check the network configuration.. "ipconfig /all" will tell you what the machine name is and what ip is and confirm with the network person if it's right. ipconfig /all <returns something like> Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : TEST-Machine-N1 Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : test.machine.com Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : test.machine.com pwc.uis Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-50-65-FA-74-FC DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 60.80.170.144(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 60.80.170.129 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 190.160.240.20 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled

what do you mean by "new DNS"? Instead of using the localhost, use the full name of the machine like: "https://mymachine.dom1.dom2.com:7443/arcgis/home" confirm this works first.

I have spent the entire week trying to figure out a safe path to upgrade a simple windows arcgis portal site from 10.5 to 10.5.1. I need to be able to upgrade our production site within a few hours, but still be able to rollback. I have not been successful yet in a test environment. ArcGIS Portal does complete the upgrade and the migration. But to see the content requires completing an reindex of the site. However, the "search" index becomes corrupted. So most of the content is missing. While I'm waiting for a way to fix the index... I'm going to try and take a smaller step.. and just attempt to backup and recover the same server on 10.5, then see if I can upgrade to 10.5.1. now that I see you can uninstall and restore from the exported site, I am encouraged. In reading thru your post, you installed a pristine version of 10.5.1, then ran the import of the portal 10.5 exported site? you needed to use a different admin user name to complete the import? is that correct?

I was using a service account, this can get locked during configuration and produces same result. But it was working, so it maybe how much time it takes which I've also seen. However, when ldap is working secure services are not accessible thru web adaptor. Even in an http or https environment in 10.2. This is broken in 10.2, and works in 10.1. But 10.2 supports a mixed private/secure environment using 2 web adaptors. Which is why I'm trying to upgrade. I'm considering using the custom config using java. I had some success using the windows domain...

This is perhaps semantics, but maybe I am not using the roles correctly. There are 3 role types, but only the ???user??? role type can be used to provide read privileges to private service. 3 user role types can be assigned to a specific service: Group-A -> Service-A Group-B -> Service-B Group-C -> Service-C users in Group-A cannot use Service-B or Service-C But publisher and administrator role types provide access to all services and can give access to anyone. Publisher types assigned to a specific Service: Pub-A -> Service-A Pub-B -> Service-B Administrator types assigned to specific service: Adm-A -> Service-A Adm-B -> Service-B Is there any benefit to having more than one publishing or administrator group?

I ran through the installation as per the installation guide and video and left most things as default, I wasnt given the opportunity to specify a port so believe I am using Localhost:6080. If you have not done so, register the arcgis server using a path similar to: http://<your website>/arcgis/webadaptor/ are you work with 10.1 or 10.2?

It's fixed in 10.2. looking at 10.2 now, and it looks like it may have some issues. directions call for creating 2 web adaptor applications, one for public, the other for private access. the later is supposed to be web-tier single sign on configurable but not much luck here in 10.2. I have 10.1 using ldap and CAMS, so single sign-on works... but this capability in the web adaptor is broken in 10.2. specifically, special characters in user name fails to login, and successful login does not make it past the progress bar. in 10.1 this was fixed:ArcGIS-101SP1-S-SSSC-Patch.msp but the issue is more involved than that in 10.2 when configured for single sign-on, i get not authorized page, and services show just the public authorized web services. no-joy.

Since there is no forum for Server 10.2 yet, I'll post this here: I've installed the Web Adaptor 10.2 for IIS on my web server and now I want to install it again for a second access point, as the installation instructions say I can (http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/install-guides/arcgis-server-web-adaptor-iis/10.2/index.html#/Installing_multiple_ArcGIS_Web_Adaptors/01nz0000000w000000/). However, when I try to install it a second time, it just brings up the dialog asking me whether I want to modify, repair or uninstall the software. It won't let me install it a second time. Web server is running on Windows 2012 R2 Preview. A bug or is this just Windows causing problems? this is a pretty common issue, and plenty of forum threads on this too. you will need to follow the instructions for the silent install... the command line looks like this: <path to setup files>\setup.exe /qb WEBSITE_ID=101 VDIRNAME=agsweb PORT=80 your website id needs to be found in IIS manager. the virtual directory must be unique, and specify the port your website is on. if your files are not copied over, you can always copy your existing web adaptor, convert to application in IIS, specify the web app pool, set folder and file permissions. specifically, set permissions on the WebAdaptor.config file like so: icacls "C:\inetpub\GisMap\public\WebAdaptor.config" /grant "IIS AppPool\ArcGISWebAdaptorAppPool":F you will then need to register the app with your arcgis server through your browser: <wa url app path>/WebAdaptor

1) If your installing the ESRI Web Adaptor and nesting it in a live site that has the "system.web.extensions" element at the root web.config, you will need to work something out with the site owner to move this setting into the folder or application that needs it. To follow up, nesting a .net 2 or 3.5 application in .net 4.0 website is not a good idea: ...for the "system.web.extensions" or specificially "JSON serialization" is configured in the parent application, Per Microsoft, If an IIS Web application that targets the .NET Framework 3.5 or earlier is nested in an IIS application that targets the .NET Framework 4, the compiler might report errors when it compiles the nested application. This is because Web.config files inherit settings from files that are higher in the configuration file hierarchy. The .NET Framework 4 is backward compatible; therefore, a nested application that targets the .NET Framework 4 can inherit settings from Web.config files that are for earlier versions. But earlier versions of the .NET Framework are not forward compatible; therefore, they cannot inherit settings from a .NET Framework 4 Web.config file. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/a99txfy5(v=vs.100).aspx#different_versions_of_the_net_framework_in_nested_applications

So, lucky me, I have geodatabase connections from 10.0; There is not an Add spatial database connection or sde connection? here's the connection property view: and here is the same dialog when trying to add connection, notice the application server is missing: I can copy the connection file, but when trying to explain to a user how to make connections... is there a setting that can correct this...

I did a search and just replaced with an appropriate thumbnail, before checking the actual flow... so my workaround is bit of a hack. workaround: copy <your new 200 x 133 px image> to c:\arcgisserver\config-store\services\<name of service>\esriinfo\thumbnail\thumbnail.png you might need to, but check with esri, I notice late that the px size was larger, oops - c:\arcgisserver\config-store\services\<name of service>\esriinfo\.JPEG and here - c:\arcgisserver\directories\arcgissystem\arcgisinput\<name of service>\extracted\esriinfo\thumbnail\thumbnail.png it displays nice now... and if you don't like the default thumbnail that is generated, you can fix it.
