Some suggestions. With either of these, resource your model script tool to the new location (right click script tool, Properties, Source). #1 - put the script in a common area that your coworkers have access to on your LAN. You may have to use a UNC path. #2 - have users put a copy of the script in something like C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS, that all users have.

When hitting <ENTER> in a text box, that makes a new line and won't make the text visible in the layout. The text will show if you select OK or Apply. If you place your text while in the Data View, text will stay where you want it. You may want to set a Reference Scale in the Data Frame Properties. Scott

If you run the model from the tool dialog box (toolbox), intermediate data will not remain ('most' I read somewhere). If there is some intermediate data that you want to keep, in ModelBuilder make the output a model parameter. Scott

I concur with Jayanta with one exception, after the Union create a new field 'Change' (in the Union feature class), and field calculate land uses 1992 and 2003 (with a space in between). Then do the dissolve on the 'Change' field, which will show changes, and also areas of no change that will have like values. If you're dealing with acres don't forget to 'Calculate Geometry' on the 'Acres' field. Scott

Another suggestion is to: 1. Start editing in ArcMap the feature class with 3x5 polygons, 2. Select (all) the 3x5 polygons, 3. Go to Editor, then Buffer... 4. Enter -1 (negative one) to make an inner polygon 1x3 Scott

Multiple times I've experienced the trace tool failing to snap to vertices in 10.2.1 and not as often in 10.3 .My solution has been to abandon the mxd and recreate it. Scott

Michael, I created a test model with two empty shapefiles and one shapefile with data. The Merge of all three ran all the way through without error. All fields were also merged. Is there something else that may be stopping your model? Scott

Thank you Darren and Chris for your input. There's no decision yet of which way we'll go, with overlaps or no overlaps. Scott

I've inherited a feature class that has overlapping polygons that show land uses of previous years. The polygons have different shapes and there can be up to six polygons on top of each other. It seems like an easy way for users to click identify in an area and see all of the old data, but is this bad form? The intended destination is AGOL. Are there other alternatives for displaying archive data of a same location? Thanks, Scott

Another thing to consider, if you select Dissolve All polygons, overlapping polygons will be combined to create larger areas. Scott

KonPetrov All of these things happened to me a few weeks ago. I think I have an idea of what's going on. As previously posted above, there is intermediate data created when a model is run from the model building window. Your model needs a place to put that data and the model is creating filegeodatabases to your default location, like C:\Users\username\Documents\ArcGIS\Default.gdb. If you can't delete the .gdbs from ArcCatalog you may want to try deleting in Windows Explorer. If you run a model from Toolbox, intermediate data is not left behind. You may want to consider putting your model and Toolbox in a filegeodatabase (if it's your model) and create your data there. Scott

Thanks for the reply Joshua. I've had only minor success. Make Query Table errored as I believe that I need write access to the table. (I had success on writable tables.) When I employ Make Query Layer in a model, the output isn't recognized, using Get Count for testing. My only success was that I created the ESRI_OID field in ArcMap by Add Query Layer, but then my model, run from ArcMap, still doesn't recognize the query output. At this point I'm going to have the database administrator add an OID field. Scott

I have read-only access to a non-spatial SQL server. The table I want to use doesn't have object IDs, needed for queries, while another table shows the ESRI_OID field ("shows" as it really isn't in the table). How do I get the ESRI_OID field to show in the table? Also, I'm unable to Register with Geodatabase. If I were to have a new OID field added to the SQL table, what do I tell the database administrator, create a random number field? Thanks, Scott

Cheryl, When a model is run as a tool intermediate data is deleted. That's probably occurring after the the first Rename, and everything gets messed up thereafter. My suggestion is to create two iterating models, one for Rename and one for Calculate, and then drag and drop them into a new model that will run both of them. Please let me know if this works as I haven't tried running two embedded models. Scott
