Thank you for the suggestion I used configure function parameters with application as "HydroConfig", function group as "watershed parameters" and configuration as "archydro tools" but it did not work. I repeated the procedure with ApNconfing and Default Config but still cant get over the error. I also tried to work with "set target locations" for all the 3 nodes but all in vain. I have attached the error am getting; may be it will shed more light. Thank you

I posted this thread some time last week but I have had no feedback. I have tried emptying the TEMP folder but still nothing works. So I have decided to post it again . want to generate a curve number grid using HEC-GeoHMS 5 which I just installed. I have arcmap 9.3.1 and archydro 1.4. Whe I use the Generate CN grid tool, I get an error that says " Aplayer is not defined for .... Run Create ArcHydro configuration function and try again". the layers am using were generated using archydro 1.3 which I uninstalled. I added the ArcHydro tools to arctool box and when i open it, there is no "create arc hydro configuration function" nor does ArcHydro settings appear in the environment settings. This is contrary to ArcHydro GP Tools 1.4 Tutorial. Can someone help please Fai

Hie, After long hours of trying, I got it! I went back to the APWR.ApRegWork.exe and typed WATERUTILITIES in the Searching text. It worked. Thanks for all the earlier suggestions

Hie, The FireZilla worked quite perfectly. Thank you so much. However, the smile faded as quickly as it had appeared. While installing, I got another message that there is a previous version of XML-Data Exchange on the system and I need to uninstall it from the control panel. But i have no XML Data exchange in the installed programs. Everything was uninstalled. What I have is MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB973688), which according to ESRI is a prerequisite for the installation of XML - Data Exchange. In search of XML Data Exchange, I went back to ESRI. APWR.ApRegWork.exe and cleaned ApUniqueIDMgr and ApUtilsNet (I hope I have not gone too far) but to no avail. Still waiting for a miracle. Fai

Stuart, Thank you very much. When I type in ftp://ftp.esri.com, I get a page with only one folder called 'pub'. (see attached) and when i click the folder, I get 4 folders which are all empty except 1 and they are all irrelevant. However, when do the same on my laptop everything works fine but I cannot load HECGeo HMS on the laptop. I need it on my desktop where I have access to GIS. I have been able to get the instructions from 'readme' and i have cleaned the system but I cannot download HECGeoHMS as it does not appear. I dont want to download it from other sources other than esri Any suggestion as to why other directories do not appear? Once again, thank you very much Fai

Hie, I want to install HEC-GEOHMS 5.0. I use arcmap 9.3.1. and am using windows 7. I uninstalled everything related to archydro 1.3 which I had earlier on. Unfortunately, I get an error which says "An incorrect version of ApFramework9 was found on the system. HEC-GEOHMS requires ApFramework9 version 3.1.1.103......." But I have searched all folders, I have no Apframework9 anywhere and nothing related to archydro. Anything am doing wrong? Is there another way to find where ApFramework9 could be hiding? Thank you

Thank you Jane. The lowering of the stream definition threshold improved things tremendously but when I zoom in, in the small lake area (attached), I note that the defined streams follow the natural drainage quite perfectly but there are discontinuities along the main course within the lake area. I repeated this this to the lowest threshold (1 sq km) but with no lack.

Hie, Thanks for replies. yes, the black section in the northern part surrounds the lake, so it is a flat area. But other black areas are not along the shore line. I checked for stream segments. they are there but as you suggest, flow accumulation may not be enough to generate a stream. I also used a flow direction tool; the flow is not towsrds the catchment but away. The thing is, the main river originate from a lake and flows for some distance into another small lake from which it resurfaces again and flows downstream (see attachment). I want to calculate the time of concentration for catchment around the main river below the big lake. From Hydrology(if I disregard the big lake), the catchment for the small lake should also be part of the river catchment. Now if i just use catchment A as defined by archydro, am I not disregarding a section of the catchment (which is the catchment of the small lake)? By the way, so archydro does not delineate catchments in low lying areas? what is the way to go around this problem? Thank you

Hie I repeated the process, I get better results (I dont know why) but still no catchments are delineated in certain areas. I have attached a map. The black coloured parts represent undefined areas. Any suggestion please? Fai

I am carrying out watershed delineation with arcmap 9.3.1 and archydro 1.3. I follow the steps properly from DEM reconditioning and things work just quite fine. The problem arises when i reach catchment grid delineation. although the message says catchment grid delineation is successful, what I get are catchments delineated in some places and empty patches in other places. I thought may be i set the threshold for stream definition too high(4% of maximum flow accumulation) so adopted the default 1% but it does not work. Can somebody help please; I have been on this problem over a week now. Thanks Fai

Mark Yes, am using the functions under terrain processing. I don't have bridges nor culverts in the study area. the streams were also burnt in. i dont know what is causing the delineated streams to be discontinous in certain places when the original stream is continous at that particular location. Besides, I also noted when i do catchment delineation, i get catchments in most parts but in certain places the catchments dont get defined. what causes this? Thank u

I am new to GIS and ARCHYDRO in particular but knowledeable in hydrology. I am trying to delineate watersheds for my area. I am using Arcmap 9.3.1 and ArChydro 1.3 . The main river is an outlet of a lake; from the main lake, it flows into another small lake and emerges again. I also have an inland drainage lake within the same study area. I have followed the steps in ArcHydro and have read for over 2 weeks but nothing come close. I am a student and am in an institution where no one has knowledge ArcHYDRO. Your consideration to assist will be greatly appreciated. I HAVE THESE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS. 1. Do the lakes need special attention? 2. I came across literature which said stream lines should first b checked for features such as braiding, brokebn streams, open waterbody boundary and dangling nodes as these may cause errors. How does one remove these in ArcMAP/ARCHYDRO? I found out that my streams has breaks. 3. These problems aside, when i follow all the steps, some of the delineated rivers are discontinous at some points; yet the actual rivers are continous, how do i deal with this? 4. When i use river gauges as batch points, i get watershed (if one comes at all) that are tiny or localised around that area. From my hydrology knowledge, a watershed covers an entire area upstream of a particular point. 5. Is there a way to merge watersheds? I want to have Hydrology Response Units that are similar to what is on paper map, which was manually delineated by my country in the 80's Thank you HELP PLEASE .
