I am trying to work out if it is possible to use Survey123 XForms on a web interface. I have looked at things like qmlweb and other open source projects to see if it is possible to convert qml to html/js. Also looked at other projects that can read the XLSForm specification and render it on a web with no success so far. So a couple of questions: 1) Is it on your roadmap to create a webinterface for Survey123 2) Can you think of a way this can be done? Thanks, Erik

Morten, I work as a developer for a company that develop both ArcIMS and AGS applications for clients and the reason I asked this question was that I wanted to know the plans for customize-able OOB applications in AGS10. There has been some rumours about it for a while and I think that clients would like to see this feature so that they can build their own apps. You answered my question by saying "We might include something like this down the road, but for now.." and I am happy with that answer 🙂 I totally agree with you regarding develop small targeted apps rather than a ArcMap in the browser and that seems to be what our clients want as well..

I thought that the plan was to include REST clients in to the Manager which non-developers could customize without writing code (just like the webADF client)? So let me rephrase the question so it fits this forum: Will there be any Silverlight configurable apps in Managar in AGS 10? 🙂

I am talking about OOB template applications that can be configured by a non-developer through manager. I thought that AGS10 would have more options here than just the webadf template app?

Am I missing something here or are there no other OOB applications (except the WebADF one) shipped with AGS 10 pre-release? I just installed it and was looking forward to see some funky new OOB Silverlight templates.. Will the other templates come in the final release or will they be separate downloads from the gallery?

That's what I try to avoid since I then need to create one service per geographical area which will result in a lot of services to maintain..

Ok, thanks. So I guess I will store the different area extents in a database and then retrieve them when the app has loaded and then listen to the map extent move event and then check if the user has access or not to the new event. Also need to make sure that the user cant access the information directly from the REST API to bypass the app security. Also interesting to see how the performance impact will be when it has to check each time the mapextent has changed.

Anyone done anything with restricting data based on user privileges in a SL app? I would like to restrict the extents available to the user based on their privileges: So for example: user A might have access to world data within a mapservice but user B only have access to European data within the same mapservice. So not layerlevel access but rather extent based access. A can see a number of problems with this but also a few possibilities to achieve it. I wonder if anyone have done anything similar?

Hi, Microsoft seems to push JQuery quite hard now as a JS library with neat integration in Visual Studio and a lot of good work involved with the JQuery community. Will we see a ESRI JavaScript API version for JQuery at some point (since ESRI seems to usually follow MS) or will Dojo be the way forward? What are the benefits using Dojo over JQuery? Thanks, Erik

I have now recreated the startup project for 9.4 so it now works. I dont know why the old project failed during registration and I would recommend ESRI to add a /errorlog parameter to ESRIRegAsm.exe that shows a more detailed errormessage.

I now tried to create a new 9.4 startup project and moved the stuff across from the old project but it still fails when it is trying to register the dll. So I guess I have to go through it step by step to see where it breaks..

Yes, I have tried to manually create a new file (based on the 2 that works) but ArcMap does not pick up the extensions anyway. Does it matter what order I have on my clsids and catids? Also, I would suggest ESRI to implement a /errorlog parameter to esriRegasm.exe so that I can see the detailed errormessage if the registration fails. Now it very hard to troubleshoot why it is failing.

I get the same error message even with your new XML. I had already tried to amend the XML since the one in the documentation gives me a build error. I also tried with a hardcoded path to the dll but with the same result. I have 4 different extensions and 2 of them register sucessfully but 2 fails. Is there anywhere I can get more information on why they fail? Or can I manually add them? I saw the config files in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\ArcGIS\Desktop9.4\Configuration\CATID folder??

I have upgraded a project (ArcMap Extension) from 9.3 to 9.4 but I can't register it with ArcMap. I have tried to add the xml code in the solution file but also tried to register it with the ESRIRegAsm.exe. They both throws an error message: In Visual Studio: The command "esriRegasm.exe 'C:\ProjectName\bin\Debug\product.dll' /v 9.4 /p Desktop /s" exited with code -1. When running it from cmd: Registration failed. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. Is there anywhere I can see more information on why it is failing?
