This happened the last time they made changes to ArcGIS Online. It was fixed previously, and now the same problems are happening again. I think they made more changes to ArcGIS Online this week... We rely on this product and it seems to be constantly broken.

You need to use ArcMap to re-project the data. (Simply changing the specified coordinate system will make the system use your current coordinates in another coordinate system, and put things in the wrong place.) I don't think there is any way to re-project data in ArcGIS Explorer Desktop (not 100% sure). In ArcMap : As long as the coordinates and coordinate system you are starting with put your data in the right place, you should be able to use the "Project" tool in the Data Management toolbox (or Project Raster for imagery) to re-project it to another coordinate system. Be aware that you may need to use a geographic transformation for the best results (this is an option in the tool). Hope it all works out !

In build 2500, I have noticed that our published map services are displaying the Object ID as the title of the associated Pop-Up, rather than the field we had set for the display prior to publishing. This was not the case in build 1750, and it would show the content of the field we chose. (We could set the properties in ArcMap, under the "display --> display expression" tab, prior to publishing the service.) This is mostly an issue when a user clicks somewhere on the map that has more than one feature, and to select which pop-up they would like to see they are given a choice to choose from the surrounding features, but the choices are based on the labels, which are now only object ID's and not our store numbers. No way for them to tell which store they are choosing ! Same goes for all our other service layers, every pop-up is labeled with the object ID and not the field chosen prior to publishing. HUGE problem for us... and very confusing for users. Anyone found an answer to this ??? Thanks !! -Eric (ArcServer Enterprise 10.1, ArcMap 10.1, both on service pack 1, Explorer Desktop 2500)

Ok, great workaround for me, thanks Mark. Don't think this is feasible for our ~50 users, as most don't have ID's/won't take time to create IDs/change region/login, etc. so we will still be anxiously waiting for that fix ! Thanks Eric

After talking to ESRI tech support, it seems as though there was an update to the ArcGIS Online service this past Thursday (3/21), leading to some type of universal error in which the ArcGIS Explorer Desktop 2500 builds all showed no basemaps (including the folks at ESRI). Haven't heard of a solution/fix yet though ...

Also seems as though any query created from a service layer is now capped at 500 features?? I used to be able to create a query from a service, set the symbol to be "transparent", save this in the map file, and then use the "Zoom to Feature" add-in to allow my users to zoom to a specific store number, utilizing that query layer (I would make a basic query that results in all features being included). Now max I get is 500 features. Any idea on how to get around this? Thanks, Eric

Two things I am noticing in build 2500 that seem to be potential bugs. -First, when I drag a map note from the contents into the location field of the "Buffer Point" tool from the analysis dropdown it will properly record the coordinates of that point to use with the tool, but then after I run the buffer, the symbol representing the layer I had dragged into the tool disappears from the map completely, even though it stays in the contents window as a map note. I cannot figure out how to get it back either, as I have tried changing the symbol, check on/off, etc. Am I missing something? -Also, I used to be able to use the "Query" tool on a WMS layer from ArcServer, and it would return a layer in which I could change the symbol (and other things), but now the layer that comes back from a WMS query cannot have its symbol changed. It is stuck as an orange pin. So if a user has multiple queries in the map, the symbols are indistinguishable from each other. Is this normal? EDIT : This also seems to be the case when querying a "map notes" layer. However, if i use "Spatial Query" on a map notes layer, you CAN change the symbol in the resulting data set. But an attribute query result you cannot change the symbol. Overall, another great enhancement though!! Wish we could see the attribute tables of WMS layers, like ArcGIS Online can, and filter like AGO, but great improvements here for our users. Thank you for this product. Eric

Mark - Thank you for all the detailed help. Seems as though it was a simple fix once I started digging around. It was just the "Enable ArcGIS Connection" setting on the service that starts simultaneously with AGX 2500. So I had this issue as well, and it seems as though the ArcGIS Online service that starts with the start of AGX 2500 (the globe icon in the system tray) may either be set to accept the connection by deafault, or not, and this seems random on every install. I had to go to the system tray, right click on the globe, click "Properties", and then check on the "Enable ArcGIS Connection" setting. This fixed the empty base maps problem for me.

As far as I can tell, I have access to all parts of ArcGIS Online. I can pull up the basemaps directly in AGO, I can download the .nmf's and view them individually (meaning the basemap will be displayed in the contents and the data frame, but still nothing in the basemaps dropdown). From a firewall/proxy standpoint, there is nothing that seems to be blocking this connectivity. As I stated earlier, I can also individually add to the basemaps dropdown each basemap from the "basemaps/server" folder in the default install, or individually open them, and see all basemaps except bing. I do not want to do this for each and every one of our users though, they will not be named properly, bing still doesn't work with this method, etc.

The new build, 2500, seems to not want to show any basemaps in the basemap gallery. I am aware of the previous bug and thread, and have tried deleting the cache both manually and through the "Explorer Options" menu, but still cannot get the basemaps to show. I uninstalled and reinstalled the new build as well. I did have AGX build 1750 prior to this, but made sure to uninstall everything. I even went into the basemaps folder in the default install location, and was able to open individual .nmf maps containing the different basemaps (except for Bing - I guess these are now "purchase" only basemaps). In addition, the new "Layers" button only shows a blank palette when clicked, with "Loading" being shown, but seems to never load. Not even sure what is supposed to appear with this layers button. Any advice? Thanks -Eric

Mark, Thank you for keeping us up to date on this forum. I too am awaiting this release for dozens of users throughout our organization. We are actually flying people in from across the country for training at the end of this month. It would be IMMENSELY helpful to get an idea of an estimated date for the release (two days from now?, two weeks?), as I will need to create training/test/deploy/etc. I do appreciate the responses, as this is clearly an important product for many customers of ESRI. Thanks, Eric

This seems to happen all the time to dozens of users in our company. There is obviously some bug in the find tool, and it then seems to actually "breaK" the functionality of the find tool after it occurs, requiring an uninstall/reinstall. Seems to happen if you search for something that it cannot find a match for (either exact address or city). Needs to be fixed.
