After taking a closer look at this, the "is_simple" will return FALSE if there is a relationship class in the same directory as the feature you are checking. If you start with an empty geodatabase in SQL Server, create three feature classes (testA, testB, testNoRel), and check IS_SIMPLE, all three will return TRUE. If you create a relationship class between 2 of them (testA and testB), IS_SIMPLE will return FALSE for all three, including the feature class that does not participate in a relationship class (testNoRel). It seems like the third feature class that does not participate in a relationship class should return TRUE for is simple. Is there a reason why this would return false?

To have a more detailed map in the offline mode, you will need to create a TPK in ArcMap and copy that onto the device. Info on creating TPKs is here: ArcGIS Help (10.2, 10.2.1, and 10.2.2). This would require you to have a good reference map with you're own data, you can't create a TPK with any of the ESRI basemaps. Unfortunately, you can't switch between an online and offline basemap for a single published map in the Collector. The best you could do is have two different published map services that a user would switch between (published maps in ArcGIS Online or Portal, not basemaps). One would be downloaded to the device with lower resolution, while the other a user switches to when there is a connection. This probably wouldn't work too well if the user needs to do edits, since they would only show up on one of the maps until a sync occurs.

Miaogeng Zhang and Scott Prindle, thanks for the feedback. When I get a chance, I'll test out the sync process running through Fiddler.

If I create a Feature Class in python (arcpy.CreateFeatureclass_management) in SDE (just in the root, not inside a Feature Dataset), I am getting "FALSE" from sde.IS_SIMPLE in SQL Server. I thought a new Feature Class would be simple. I'm getting the same "FALSE" for any Feature Class in the root of the GDB on SQL Server, but I get "TRUE" for features in Feature Datasets. Here's the python code I used to create the feature: arcpy.CreateFeatureclass_management(out_path="Database Connections/sde_conn.sde",out_name="test_fc",geometry_type="POINT",template="#",has_m="DISABLED",has_z="DISABLED",spatial_reference="GEOGCS['GCS_WGS_1984',DATUM['D_WGS_1984',SPHEROID['WGS_1984',6378137.0,298.257223563]],PRIMEM['Greenwich',0.0],UNIT['Degree',0.0174532925199433]];-400 -400 1000000000;-100000 10000;-100000 10000;8.98315284119522E-09;0.001;0.001;IsHighPrecision",spatial_grid_1="0",spatial_grid_2="0",spatial_grid_3="0") In SSMS, I run SELECT sde.IS_SIMPLE('dbo', 'test_fc') and it returns FALSE. I was expecting a new feature class to return TRUE. Does the FALSE here make sense?

It doesn't seem to be 5.0 or 5.1 related, sometimes it syncs fine. We're still having issues though. Now it's occurring on an iPhone and the Nexus 6. It seems like if we don't sync for a day issues will start up. We had it sync fine Monday and Tuesday, did not sync on Wednesday, and today the Nexus had the general "sync failed" message, while the iPhone it just stopped syncing half way through. Is there any kind of logging that the Collector does, so we can see what's going on?

When I originally made this post, I was using a Samsung Galaxy S4 with Android 4.4.4 while the field tests were done with a Nexus 6 running Android 5.0.1. I was able to sync edits fine, but they were having problems. Since then, I received the Android 5.0.1 upgrade. I downloaded the map again this morning on my phone, made an edit to 5 features, and am now getting a sync error (Title: Sync Error, Message: An error occurred while synchronizing edits). Looking around, I found a review on the Google Play store for the collector ("App fails on android 5.0 Still some bugs in this app, but excited to use it when they figure it out! - Collector for ArcGIS - Android Apps on Google Play). Maybe the problem is with Android 5.0 or 5.0.1? Has anyone successfully used the offline edit and sync capabilities with Android 5.0 (or 5.1)?

Hello, We have an issue with the Collector periodically not being able to download for offline or sync edits. Sometimes it works greats, but other times we have very frustrating problems. For a little background, we are using the Collector to update records on a hosted feature layer on ArcGIS Online. When I go to the Feature Layer details on AGOL, it says the size is 1 KB. The Service Definition is 3 MB, and the Web Map is 10 KB. The size of the hosted feature layer appears to be incorrect, the data should be larger than 1KB. As a test, I downloaded the data to my phone, and it created a folder in storage/ArcGIS_Collector/offline_data that is about 54 megabytes. I'm using a basemap already on the device, so that was not included. It took about 10 minutes to download the files. Is 10 minutes a reasonable download time for 54 megs? Our problem is with the intermittent sync issues we're having. We copied a new basemap (tpk) onto the device yesterday, then made changes to attributes on 5 different lines (all part of the same feature). The guy testing the Collector app hit "Sync" before he left the office yesterday evening at 5 PM. When he came in this morning, the progress bar had reached (what looks like) 100%, but it did not complete. He thought it might be an issue with the office wifi, so he cancelled the sync and then took the device into the field with him. He hit sync in the field when it was on a cell connection, and it is continuing to not sync. The device is a Nexus 6. The packaged features seem to only be 54 megs, and there were only 5 records that were updated, so it seems like it would be a quick sync. He's the only one who made changes before he hit sync, so I would have expected it to complete pretty quick. This isn't the first time we've had these kinds of problems. We've had it take hours to download the data for offline use the first time, and over 30 minutes to do a sync. Since we're using hosted feature layers, is there any kind of debugging information we can get out of the Collector? Thanks, Dan

Hi Jill, Can you share the webapp to the group you're part of, then give the other organization the URL without your company with it? For example, http://companyxyz.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=5c4c04e829... would become http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=5c4c04e829.... As long as the ID is correct and pointing to an item that is shared, I've had this work. I've only tried it out with webmaps though, not web apps. Since they're logging into the generic arcgis.com instead of an organization site, I think it cleans up some of the odd login behavior. Dan

I'm thinking that this functionality is not in ArcGIS Online yet. According to this blog (geoXchange - geoXchange - The Wonderful World of Tables in ArcGIS Online ), the Field Calculate tool was added in October of 2014, but there's no mention of editing individual fields or adding a new row. There's also a post on the Ideas site about editing individual values (https://esri.secure.force.com/ideaView?id=087E00000005IOe&returnUrl=%2Fapex%2FideaList%3Fc%3D09a300000004xET%26sort%3Dpo… ). Is anyone aware of a way to edit a single value or add a new row in a table on ArcGIS Online?

Is it possible to edit a table in a web map on ArcGIS Online? I see the "Enable/Disable Editing" option on the table, but I can't add a row or edit any values in the web map. If I go under "Edit", it only has options for the feature classes. This is a table from a feature service on ArcGIS Server, not hosted.

Chris, Thanks for the help. I tried making the the shapefile into a layer, gp.MakeFeatureLayer('D:/Temp/Test.2.shp','t2') and received this: ERROR 000732: Input Features: Dataset D:/Temp/Test.2.shp does not exist or is not supported I think my best bet is going to be to rename the offending files. Thanks for the help, Dan

Hello, I'm running ArcGIS 9.3.1 and I have a shapefile with a period in the name, such as "Test.2.shp", which I can not use Describe to get the projection for. When I try to use gp.Describe('Test.2.shp').SpatialReference.Name, I get the error "RuntimeError: DescribeData: Method SpatialReference does not exist." Here is my code: import arcgisscripting, sys
gp = arcgisscripting.create(9.3)
gp.SetProduct("ArcInfo")
gp.workspace = 'D:/Temp'
print 'Test1.shp Name: '+gp.Describe('Test1.shp').Name
print 'Test.2.shp Name: '+gp.Describe('Test.2.shp').Name
print 'Test1 Prj: '+gp.Describe('Test1.shp').SpatialReference.Name
print 'Test.2 Prj: '+gp.Describe('Test.2.shp').SpatialReference.Name
And this is the result from the command line: Test1.shp Name: Test1.shp
Test.2.shp Name: Test.2.shp
Test1 Prj: NAD_1983_StatePlane_Illinois_East_FIPS_1201
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "D:\Temp\test.py", line 11, in <module>
print 'Test.2 Prj: '+gp.Describe('Test.2.shp').SpatialReference.Name
RuntimeError: DescribeData: Method SpatialReference does not exist Both Test1.shp and Test.2.shp have the same projection. Am I doing something wrong, or does anyone have a suggestion for me? I'd prefer not to have to rename the files. Thanks, Dan
